Anyone ever deliver at 35 weeks?

I'm 34weeks and 2 days... & I am a nervous mommy right now! My 1st born was 2 days past due and weighed 7lbs 4 oz, my 2nd born was born at 37weeks3days and weighed 6lbs 11oz & over the weekend I lost a tiny chunk of my mucous plug... Since I've been having bh contractions & they were increasing in frequency, they scheduled me to go in on Monday. She checked me & I'm only 1/2 a cm dilated. 30% effaced.

Well, for about 3 hours on Tuesday my contractions were coming every 10 minutes and they wanted me to go into labor & delivery... While there, my contractions were going down to 4-8 min apart, however they weren't strong enough to change my cervix so they sent me home and told me if they get stronger to come back. Last night my contractions got worse, & were coming 4-8 min again, and today they've been coming every 20 min but are hurting. I'm nervous about going into active labor soon, which they said could be a possiblity with my 3rd...

I'm just curious as to how many mommies may have delivered at 35 weeks before? & if the baby had to stay in the nicu? My dr also said that at 35 weeks they don't automatically take the baby to the nicu to get checked unless they notice an issue with them. Sorry for a long post, I want my little one to stay in there & gain more weight!

Re: Anyone ever deliver at 35 weeks?

  • Although I personally don't have any experience with a birth that early, my friend he two boys, one at 35 and one at 34. They were very tiny but very healthy! Regular stay in the hospital for both no complications. On the flip side, my nephew was born just shy of 40 weeks and he had to go to the NICU for breathing issues for a few days, problems with his lungs. It can happen to anyone, anytime, so the fact that your doctor is already aware of you possibly going soon is good! That means they are prepared for a potentially early baby. I'm sure if you asked your OB that he or she could tell you what some things are they would be looking for and how they would handle them. Good luck!

  • Hang in there mama! With my second baby, my water broke at 34wks 5 days but I did not have any contractions. I was induced at 35 wks and delivered a healthy baby girl 5lbs 2oz with slight jaundice. She was kept in the NICU for 18 hours and we were both discharged after that. If she hadn't been jaundice, I was told she wouldn't of been placed in the NICU at all.
    Sending you happy vibes :)
  • Hi, I'm glad u asked this! Currently my body is attacking my baby due to having antibodies that are targeting her blood. I am only 32 and 4 days and have to go back to see how anemic she is on Monday when I'll be 33&1. I've been told we are past the point of intrauterine blood transfusions and they will just deliver her when she hits a certain point. I'm hoping to keep her in for at least a few more weeks as I know every week is vital! Right now they told me she is measuring about 5 lbs and I am hoping that's correct and will keep her out of the NICU. Good luck with your little one, keep us informed and thanks for asking!

That's awesome to hear! I don't know how I'd do if I had to leave the hospital without him, that's what I'm most worried about. But less than 24 hours in the nicu sounds ok!

Thank you, that actually puts me at ease!

  • I had these thoughts, I had scary contractions last night that made me call the on call midwife at midnight . She encouraged me to try and sleep through it and if they were real serious I would be able to, in that case head to the hospital. By 3am they stopped entirely, and I slept great. Although when I woke up I lost my mucus plug which made me SUPER nervous.

My first EDD was Sept 11 but after first ultrasound they made EDD Oct 1st. I have an inkling baby will come in September but I hope she bakes till October because we have a planned home birth and if she's here early we will need to give to the hospital. Ultimately I hope baby cows when she's fully ready. The nerves are real, 35 weeks today!
  • I delivered my twins at 35 weeks and both of them were fully developed and weighed over 5 lbs. we all got to go home less than 48hrs after they were born. This was 3 years ago, they are both still perfectly healthy. That being said, I hope this little man bakes for a little longer than his brothers, but I know that if he does come a little early that he will be just fine ;)
