Trying to Get Pregnant

Has anyone experienced a false positive from clear blue digital ovulation test?

This is our first month trying. I have been using Clear Blue Digital Ovulation Tests and BBT. CD 13 I have an increased temp and got my first smiley. CD 14 had the same high temp but no surge on the stick. CD 15 temp was low again but a smiley on the stick. Any idea what could be going on? TIA!

Re: Has anyone experienced a false positive from clear blue digital ovulation test?

  • Hello. I'm not sure you understand how temping works. Your temp goes up and down normally. What you are looking for is a SHIFT. Which means at least three temps higher than the previous six. If your temp went back down you didn't ovulate. Also Opks only show an LH surge which may or may not lead to ovulation in the next 0-5 days. Can you share your chart. Save yourself some frustration and put it on fertility friend before you share it

  • I had 2 positives last month, 4 days apart. It was my first cycle off bc so I don't know if that made a difference. Agree with the rec to put it into ff and keep having sex until ovulation is confirmed
  • I had a peak result on CD9 this past cycle (went from low to peak within the one day), but I wasn't temping at the time so I'm not sure if it was a false positive or not. I've read a lot of negative reviews about this brand, though, so I will not be using it again. Sorry I can't be of more help, just wanted to let you know my experience with the brand.

  • It's not a 'false positive'. The ovulation a tests do not tell you for sure that you have ovulated. It's not how they work. They tell you if they detect a surge in hormones, which can be a sign that ovulation may occur soon. Women can have multiple surges within a month, and they can also have the surge without even ovulating.

Please read and educate yourselves on how this works. It will save a great deal of stress each month.

  • Agree with others - Check out Taking Charge of Your Fertility (TCOYF) as it is a great resource in helping to identify when your fertility window could be. Also you could have multiple surges in one cycle - the only true way to know when you O'd would be through temping and checking your CM. OPK's are more of a 3rd/4th resource to use when trying to detect when you're ovulating.

  • Seconding what @winchestertopittsburgh said (hi, there, local person!). Just to give you an example, I was using OPKs before we started seeing an RE. The first month we were monitored my OPK was almost 6 days off. That's a big delta for error to keep in mind.
