How early to test for pregnancy after IUI ?

Hi there ! Just had my first IUI today . My pregnancy test (blood test ) at my re is scheduled for Labor Day . I was just wondering how many of you do home pregnancy tests before your beta testing ? I'm not sure if it's just best for me to wait until I see the doctor so I don't drive myself insane ? I'm also wondering how early people feel symptoms of pregnancy . I can't wait two weeks . Ahhh !!!! I know so many of you ladies are in the same boat - sure does test our patience !!

Re: How early to test for pregnancy after IUI ?

  • I had my iui last Thursday. I did natural cycle with donor because my husband has azo sperm. I had 2 unsuccessful iui with my regular doctor about 2 years ago but he didn't do nearly as much as my fertility doc did this time. I am 5dpiui and have been cramping since last night. Don't want to get my hopes up but it sure is a weird feeling. I tested today but I know 5 days piui is silly. I wish I had the power to wait but it's so hard. So hold out as long as you can

  • When I finally get my IUI I am going to try to wait the full two weeks until my beta. Whether I will be able to or not, I don't know. Especially considering I have pregnancy tests in my bathroom. lol

  • I had an IUI yesterday too! My beta is also on Labor Day! This is my third cycle. I can tell you from experience that testing will drive you crazy and so will not testing.

The first cycle I tested out the HCG trigger shot and nearly every single day. The BFN I received every day was depressing. I tried to stop testing, but i just needed to know.

Then the second cycle. I vowed not to test the second month. I didn't test out the HCG trigger. But at 10dpiui I felt pregnant. I knew I was. I felt a heavy pressure in my uterus that I didn't feel the cycle before. So the next day when I returned home, I tested. I was shocked! There were two pink lines!! There was my BFP!! I tested twice a day for the next 4 days. The lines were always there, very faint and seemed to get a little darker on the 2nd day. I was once again driving myself crazy. Then I went for the beta 14dpiui and the HCG was very low. I went back 2 days later to find out that the HCG dropped and I lost the pregnancy. It was a chemical. I was devastated. The excitement I felt the 4 days prior had turned to a sadness I had never experienced before. I even bought the super cute camo onsie I saw at Walmart for my DH! I was so excited!

So, this month I doubt I will test. The pain of the disappointment is much worse than just not knowing.

Also, it's so hard to diagnose symptoms. Especially if you are on progesterone supplements. I am and I can tell you they totally mimic al pregnancy symptoms. Tired, sore chest, bloated, etc. Don't read into the symptoms, they are misleading!

Sorry for the long post but I just wanted to share. Hope this helps. Good luck and I hope we all get our BFP!!
  • I'm 100% camp don't test until your beta. I didn't do it on my first round. I'm not planning on doing it on this round. They specifically pick your beta date because they are sure that the HCG from the trigger will be out of your system. I know it's hard, but the more you can put it out of your head the better!

  • Thanks for the feedback ladies! Okay I'm going to stick it out and wait (not gonna lie though, I did a pregnancy test last night even though there was no way of it being positive other than from the ovidrel). I think I'm going crazy!!

islagirl1218 I hope your cramping is a good sign!! When do you go in for your Beta??? Best of luck!!!

AdorkablePixie I know, right?! I bought pregnancy tests in bulk... that was a BAD idea. Do you know when you are getting your IUI?

amos1417 I am SO sorry to hear about your devastation last month :( I can't imagine how hard that must be. Sending prayers and positive vibes your way.  I hope this month turns out better for you! Please keep me posted on how things are going for you this month-cool we got our IUIs on the same day :)

Ugh I am starting the progesterone tomorrow and dreading it. The last two months I have had it I have been a hormonal disaster and gained a ton of weight very quickly. Not fun! but in the long run its going to be more than worth all of the inconvenience.

jnissa-Ok good to know! Thank you for the support. We can do it!!! Best of luck to you!!

  • I tried really hard and really wanted to wait, but then I caved in about a week post IUI and ordered cheapies online as I felt too different from my previous cycle (nauseous, full uterus, weird twinges/cramps). Got myself all worked up because my first one was positive due to Ovidrel (at 8dpiui). I then started testing daily, and got my real BFP at 10dpiui. Beta was 13dpiui. If you can find the strentgh not to test, kudos to you. I'm just a control freak and I 'needed' to know...
  • mskeenan! I start progesterone tomorrow too and I am so dreading it as well! I have gained weight like crazy too and I can barely stand myself due to the mood swings and being so tired! My DH husband just doesn't understand how I can be so tired all of the time. I can't wait for the beta, I really hope the time flies and we both get BFPs on labor day!! That would be amazing!

Good luck ladies and FX crossed for us all!

    >:D<
  • @mskeenan We are thinking sometime late next week. This process is taking me forever, but at least I am getting there. Slowly but surely.

  • Last month I didn't test until the night before my trigger just so I would have a heads up before they called me, so I could be prepared.  I totally had my hopes up because I had a bunch of early pregnancy symptoms but they were all from the progesterone suppositories I was taking. I Knew the side effects form it mimic early pregnancy but I still thought maybe I would get my BFP.  This time I am hoping to just let the time go by.  I had my IUI sunday and because of Labor day my beta isn't until the Tuesday after, the 8th.  I am going to try my best not to look into symptoms as they probably are just from the progesterone and I will probably take a test on labor day just so I know before I go for the beta
