Weight estimates for baby

Who else has gotten one?! My doctor gave me an estimate this week at 32 weeks 2 days that little man is already about 4 lbs 8 oz. Big babies run in my family, so I'm totally expecting an 8-9 pounder. So happy he's healthy! How are everyone else's little ones coming along?

Re: Weight estimates for baby

  • 31 weeks tomorrow, my doctor said about 2 pounds! I'm thinking I'll have a tiny petite baby girl!
  • Loading the player...
  • My Dr doesn't guess anymore because they can be so far off..last one I had was baby one they said around 7 he was 5.8 :)
  • 30 weeks and 2lb13oz. 9th percentile. Baby has been small whole time so been going every week for monitoring since 24 weeks. At least up from 6th percentile last measurement!
  • 32 weeks and 5 days said 5lbs. That leads to an estimated baby of 8.5 lbs! DH was a 9 pounder and I was about 7.5...lets hope all this estimating is wrong an I have a good 7lb baby haha. I don't have a very big bone structure so anything bigger terrifies me!!
  • 30 weeks and we have a 3lb 2 Oz baby based off our ultrasound
  • I had an ultrasound at 30w6d and baby was measuring at 32w2d with an estimated weight of 4lbs 4oz. I've heard from several people that the weight is never accurate though, so I'm guessing she's actually somewhere around 3.5lbs
  • At 30w 3d my little girl was weighing 3 lbs 10oz dr said she was about a week ahead and will be about 7 lbs 14 oz at birth give or take 10% fault . I have heard the ultrasounds estimates are usually way off so I am hoping she is a little smaller coming out :)
  • My first son was estimated to be 7.5-8 lbs max ... He was born 9.7 lbs ! I wouldn't go by estimates !
  • 33 weeks 1 day, he is measuring 4lbs 13 oz. We get to have another ultrasound in 2 weeks for another growth check

  • At 32w2d my guy was estimated at 4lbs and in the 38th percentile.
  • 34w2d and was estimated yesterday between 5.5-6lbs :)
  • 33 wks and my doctor said approx. 4lbs, but he also said it's purely a guesstimate! Unless you are having frequent ultrasounds there is really no way of knowing right? Or am I missing something?

  • I had an ultrasound at 31w 1d and they estimated 3lbs 13oz (plus or minus 1/2lb).
  • At my 30 week growth ultrasound (had an extra because I "looked" small) they were measuring my little man at 3lbs 4oz which they said was the 51st percentile.

Do you only get estimates from ultrasounds? My last one was the anatomy scan and I won't have any more so I don't think I'll have an estimate!
  • At 30w 6d they estimated 3lbs 5 oz, 36th percentile.

At our last ultrasound (33 weeks) our chunk was weighing 5lbs 2oz and in the 90th percentile.
  • I had an US this past week (31w) because my fundal height was behind. They said baby was measuring just fine, though, around 3 lbs 10 oz. I think she said 56th percentile but I could have misheard her.

Some drs will guess based on what your measuring too!
  • I always measure exact to my weeks so I bet they guess whatever the 50th percentile is just to be safe haha!

Yes Ultrasound is only true measurements of baby at a point in time, and based on your growth rate so far they just estimate what you will be at 40 weeks. Even that though is measurements and a formula to get a guesstimated weight it's not like they can weigh inside of you. So there is def room for error and then it's just an educated guess assuming everything stays on same pace.

Yes they can also measure your belly and based on averages across women say if you are measuring average also for gestational age, but then saying your baby is also average just based on your belly size is obviously very much a guess/assumption not considering what's going on inside.

  • My 31 week U/S estimated baby boy at 4lbs 6oz, measuring in the 75th percentile.
  • 34 weeks tomorrow and she's measuring 5 lbs 9 oz right now. I'm worried she'll outgrow all her 3-6 months fall and winter clothes before she even wears them!

I had that problem with my son ! He was born in September and he skipped newborn and went right to 0-3 months and was only in them for maybe a month and a half ! You may end up with lots of unused clothing like I did !
  • Just got back from my OB where she gave me the results of our 32w US from Friday. Seems our wee one, is measuring average height, but is 2.7 Kg (5.94 lbs) in the 98th percentile!  Let's just say, I will be having another US in our 37th week....

  • I had an ultrasound last week at 31 weeks. They said 3lb 14oz. They said 54th percentile so who knows how big he will be!
  • 34 weeks and they estimated 4.7 pounds. +/- 1 pound. She is in the 22nd percentile.

  • Had an us done today at 32w 3d, they said baby is huge, 5lbs 12oz!
  • @NYEmommy looks like you and I have some big ones on our hands at the moment. It will be interesting to see what the result is.

Are they talking about early delivery options for you? My OB is sending me for another US in a few weeks to see size, then we will make a determination about delivery for me.

I have mostly 3-6 month stuff because I figure those would get the most use. Never mind the 0-3 sizes! I'm just worried that DD will be in 6-9 month clothes before I can dress her in her 3-6 month stuff.

At 30 weeks baby is 3lbs 3 oz and in the 49th percentile. Dr. said all estimates are based off a +/- .07 oz. marker.
  • At 30 weeks my little one was measured to be weighing in at 3 lbs 12 oz and at 32 weeks 4lbs 14oz (89th percentile)! She has steadily been in the high 80th percentiles since my 20 week anatomy scan. I wont have another US until my 36th week where we will decide the birth route we will be going, as of right now she is breech.
  • At 30w4d baby weighed 3lbs (24th percentile) - which he said is where you want to be. @sthiggins - I wonder if my doctor reports percentiles opposite of your doctor but they are essentially saying the same thing. He explained it to us by saying, "On a math test you want your child to be in the 95th percentile but you want your unborn baby to be where it is [24th percentile]".

Did he say why you would want it to be in 24th percentile? Just to be easier to deliver if smaller? I would think think around 50th is the ideal/safest. Not too big or small. Mines in the 9th right now (few ounces smaller than yours at 30 weeks), but that obviously isn't great so I get monitored weekly.

  • I had an ultrasound today at 32 weeks and 4 days and the doctor said she weighs around 4 lbs and 4 oz and is measuring right where she should be. I go in for monthly ultrasounds because my amniotic fluid is on the low end of normal. I go back in a month at 36 weeks, can't wait to see how big she'll be by then!
  • I'm at 34 +5 weeks and my little beastie is around 6lbs. I'm fairly small, so we're doing an ultrasound in a week to get a better idea if I'll actually be able to push him out lol The doctor already warned me that if I go in to labor now they won't try to stop it. Im terrified!
