We've finally transitioned LO from the RnP to the PnP at night. Consistency was key. I've definitely noticed her MOTN cries are much more fierce in the PnP versus RnP, so much so they wake up DH. He never woke up to her while she slept in the RnP. Either way, happy to get her sleeping in there. Next up, the crib.
L/O finally slept in her crib last night! Yay! I'm not sure d/h was ready but I didn't care. She slept from 8-1 and 1:30-7. It was fantastic! I'd been having lots of trouble getting her to sleep at all in we crib.
I think it's time to move LO to her crib from the RnP. I'm going to get a soft, velour sheet so it feels more like her swing and RnP. She also has reflux, so I need to put the mattress on an incline. Anyone had luck with a wedge? Tried a pillow under the mattress but it seems unsafe because the mattress can tilt to either side.
I suck! Mines still in the rock n play because he sleeps so well in there. I'm telling myself in 3 months we'll make the transition to pack n play. Then 4 months, it's to the crib. I think I can, I think I can...
This is me too! I think though that I am going to wait until he is 4 months to make the transition straight to the crib. I am going to do "the sleep easy solution" sleep training and it basically says do whatever you need to do to get them to sleep until 4 months because they aren't able to self soothe until then anyway. It says not to worry about bad habits just do what works (other than working on putting them down sleepy but awake if you can) until then.

So glad I'm not alone! I've talked to several people that have used the rock n play until 4 months. My son is just so long I'm worried his feet will be hanging off of the edge before then!
I'm worried it will only be harder to transition from the rock n play the longer we wait. We tried a night in the crib last night. It was terrible. She kept "starfishing" and waking herself up. I got some swaddles to try today. She also spit up all over and freaked me out. Ugh. Maybe we'll spend another few weeks in the rock n play.

I figure it will be better when he is a bit older and can self soothe. I don't know if you have to do this but I have to rock him back to sleep several times during the night (this has been more of a recent issue actually). If I put him in the crib now, I feel like I would actually have to pick him up and rock him in my arms to soothe him all night and that wouldn't be good for him or me.
Mine does the "starfish" startle reaction too. I have to swaddle her at night with 1 arm in and 1 arm out but during the day she busts out of the Muslim swaddle blanket and then eventually wakes herself up. she also likes to sleep with her hands next to her face so she contradicts herself with these sleep habits of hers!

This is my way of thinking as well. Fingers crossed!
I feel like I asked this ... But when do I have to move LO from pack and play to a legit crib? Theoretically why couldn't she sleep in that, on the lowest level, instead of a crib?

The weight limit for the bassinet insert for the top of ours is 15lbs, which is why we're transitioning to the crib now. I think the bottom part of ours (the actual pack n play) holds 30 pounds but I'm not bending down that far to get her out every night/morning lol
@kes166 do you mean the circular bassinet attachment or the flat mattress bassinet "level" (they make it so confusing). I swear we had more time on that level... But we are at 12 pounds. DH wants to build the crib, which I'm.... Skeptical about, timewise.

The flat one - you must have a different model than we do, we don't have the circular attachment. But if that's the case, yours may hold more than ours does. Have you tried looking up the weight limits on Amazon if you don't have the owner's manual anymore? Sometimes they're posted on there. The manufacturer's website should have them listed as well

She doesn't I wouldn't think.. Until she got too big? Because really it is a crib...I think most people have furniture cribs in babies room and want to utilize it.. But if you don't have one well that's what a pack n play is after all..
Oh crap. 15 pounds?! And it was all going so well...
This is exactly my thought as well. He has been doing pretty well in the PnP next to the bed. I didn't know when I was going to start the transition to his room, but I'm going to have to check our manual. lf the max is 15 pounds, I may not have too long. Ugh, hopefully the weather turns a little cooler soon, we don't have an AC unit in his room, and it gets the blast of the afternoon sun, even with light blocking pull down shade. No big deal for nighttime as the room wont be chilly overnight like our bedroom usually is, but the heat during the day will make it hard to start taking practice naps in there until its cooler.
Daytime naps are in my arms or bouncer. Nighttime is next to me. I also thought I would never cosleep but here we are! Everywhere else he just cries and once I finally get him down he wakes up too much when he's hungry and we go through the whole process again. But by my side it's a quick unsnap the nursing tank and latch and he happily dreamfeeds all night long!
Want opinions. 9 week old sleeping in rock n play still.
Do we: 1) set up pack n play in our room to get her used to sleeping on back throughout the night? (Sleeps in crib for daytime naps sometimes!...but doesn't last long) 2) transition to crib in a few weeks
I see it this way, she has to get used to two transitions or will moving her to pack n play and still be next to me help her move to the crib?
@slr1229 I would transition to the crib instead of doing PNP to crib. If she's going to learn to sleep on her back the crib is probably more comfy than the PNP anyway. Just my thought.

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
We plan on moving LO to the crib this week (he's 8 weeks). But, we're going on a road trip next weekend which is just going to ruin our routine, right? Should we not waste our time and just work on the switch when we get back??
Also, where does your LO sleep when you've all gone on trips?

For us, the transition from PnP to crib has been seamless - started it last week and I've been sleeping in her room until she gets adjusted, but she's taken to the crib like a champ! We've been practicing by sleeping in it for naps, though, and that was challenging in the beginning. I didn't start with naps in the crib until we got back from our family vacation in the beginning of August because, like you, I was worried about ruining the routine. However, she's done so well with it for the most part that now I wonder if my caution was necessary. That being said, I'm not sure what your LO is currently sleeping in, but if he's in a rock and play or something similar, I'd imagine that the transition to the crib might be more difficult than PnP to crib.
On trips, we've stuck with the PnP. There have been no issues.
ETA just saw that @423ang went from RnP to crib without issue, so maybe you have nothing to worry about with that, either, if that's what you've been doing! Either way, good luck!

I'm in the same boat only my LO is 12 weeks! We're going straight to the crib. I started naps in there this weekend. So far he's only slept about 30 minutes at a time in there but I'm hoping that will increase throughout this week. Good luck!
I have put dd in her crib 3 times last week. Mainly because we are painting the bedroom and I don't want her exposed to fumes. She hasn't been sleeping as well. She isn't fussy just when she wakes up, she likes to look around at everything. I also think thid happened to coincide with a growth spurt. She was sleeping in her pack and play during the night and we got 7 hr stretches every night, so the 5 hr ones are killing me.
LO was cosleeping with us, now he's sleeping in the crib which is set up near our bed. The hardest part is the transfer, when he falls asleep nursing and I transfer him to the crib, sometimes he wakes up. But lately even if he wakes up briefly or if I put him in there drowsy and not quite asleep and turn out the light, he is able to settle down to sleep in a few minutes without crying. He will wiggle and grunt for awhile sometimes. If he actually cries I pick him up, and try feeding him again, but usually by the point I think he's drowsy enough for the crib, he is able to fall asleep there. Daytime, he usually naps in his swing or in bed with one of us.

This is my same situation at 11weeks. DH thinks LO should be out of the RocknPlay by now. But I asked the ped who said it was fine (he said if LO was still in it at 6 months that would be a different story). I just can't make the transition yet because LO sleeps through the night in the RocknPlay!
I've told myself he needs to be in the crib by the end of September when I go back to work. So I'm going to start with naps in the crib this week and build up to actual nighttime sleeping. I just don't want to give up my sleep!!
We transitioned LO from RnP to PnP and after a couple of tough nights, she transitioned really well. Now, I'm wishing we had just went from the RnP to crib but who am I kidding? I'm just not ready for her to not be in the same room as us. She'll be 12 weeks this Friday and DH thinks I'm crazy. I kind of am but whatever.
@katyqv I'm not ready either but my LO appears to be too heavy for the pack n play already unless we put it on the lowest part, but that's just too far to reach!
@kes166 unfortunately we are "mostly" cosleeping. I can get him to sleep for a few hours in the rock n play but it's a fight! So, I think the crib transition is going to be tough for us. I think I'm going to work on naps this week, go out of town for the weekend, then start hardcore transitioning him to the crib. Haha maybe hardcore is the wrong word but it feels so right!
I went to target and got some things to make his room more cozy... As if he cares. I just really want him to like it in there!
@rrcameron21 good luck! I found transitioning with naps first was really helpful. The first few days were rough, but she got used to it eventually and then sleeping in the crib at night has (so far) been easy. I hope all goes well for you!
I find that I have to rock my LO in the RNP fairly frequently to get him to go back to sleep (I try to let him self settle but it hasn't really worked). I feel like putting him in the pnp would cause us to constantly have to literally pick him up and rock him which would be much more stimulating. Anyone else used the RNP for rocking LO to sleep but had a good transition from it to pnp/crib?
We transitioned LO to the crib this weekend, he is 11 weeks today. He was sleeping in a rock and play. We didn't ease him in by putting him down for naps, but just did his regular routine of bath, jammies, bottle, (new to this routine is swaddling, which seems to make a world of difference), and then he usually passes out, then straight to then crib. First night he slept 7 hours straight, second night 9 hours with one quick midnight feed, and 3rd night 7 hours straight again! Usually max in the rock and play he slept 4 hours..
Had I known it'd be like this I would have done it sooner! Plus we have our room back and we can hang out after LO goes to sleep without worrying about waking him up as he is in his own room.
@kendalrw did you just start swaddling at 11 weeks?? LO used to hate swaddling but I was thinking of trying it out again now that he's older! He is such a wiggle worm
@rrcameron21 Yes! We swaddled till he was a couple of weeks old, but then stopped because he seemed to do okay without it, plus always seemed to break his arms out.
Lately he hasn't been taking naps well, so with all the amazig advice i was given from the lovely ladies here I was trying anything and everything, and noticed the swaddle me blankets calm him down very quickly, helped him stay asleep by himself for longer stretches and you can get them nice and tight. (he was having troubles taking naps away from me).. So when we transitioned I tried that first, and he loved it! It keeps him from waking himself up with his crazy arms, too.
^so for night time he stays in the swaddled blanket? Mine pushed and kicks out of hers no matter how tight I wrap her for naps. We use the swaddleme Velcro things are night but she's getting too big for them so need another way for the crib transition.

We also use the swaddleme's for night time sleep, LO outgrew the small ones at about 10 weeks and we bought the next size up, which is large 14-20 lbs I believe. They seem a little big, but it's the only other size that is offered.
@slr1229 We do use the swaddle me, I know he grew out of the NB size ones, I'm not sure what size he's in now but I do know they offer bigger sizes as PP said. He's 12 lbs and fits great. He never liked just being swaddled with a blanket, the ones with velcro stay put no matter how hard he tries to escape.

We had planned (as a backup in case the crib didn't go well) to do rock n plays in the nursery, but we didn't need to.
