Registry Item Count

hey ladies! Hope you are all doing well. I recently registered at Target over the weekend (I'm on the late show!). I'm a FTM and have not purchased much. My plan is to wait till after my showers to get the items that are still needed, that way I can get them at the discounted price from the list. I'm editing mine online now because I feel like there are too many items on there, 195!! About 50 of those are mine and I swear the rest my SO was scanner happy just beeping away. I'm curious to know, what's your item count? So I can get mine down to a more reasonable number lol.

  • About 80 between amazon and babies r us.
  • 86. But I'll be having 2 showers each with around 30 people.
  • Ours at babies r us is around 140 I think. But it's a good mix of small items, some bigger items and clothes and shoes. We have one of amazon with about 90 items I think. Plus whatever doesn't get bought at most places you'll get a discount on later when you buy. If you're having big showers you'll need a lot of things on your registry. Of course the older church ladies will probably just buy clothes. ;). And at babies r us you get back a percentage of what's bought off your registry. So we put the dresser up there but bought it ourselves to get money back.
  • Mine is 47.
  • Ours is currently 16 items, haha. We started it really early and then never did anything with it. I don't even know if I'm having a shower at this point, so we just never really got back to filling it out.
  • We have around 75 (although my DH got a little scan happy with the soppy cups and baby and plates/spoons). We didn't register for any clothes or blankets, I figure people will buy what they want.

  • Ours was I believe 107. I put as much stuff on as I could think of and a lot of that was baby clothes just so there wasn't all expensive large items. I just had my shower on Sunday and have to say we made out like bandits. I am so greatful for everyone who came and brought us stuff. I was really just wanting to hangout with some family and friends I haven't seen in a while. I think we now only need to purchase two of our bigger ticket items.
  • I think were at about 95 items at Buy Buy Baby then I have about 25 items on my Amazon wish list dedicated to baby because my Mom, sisters and I use Amazon Prime for everything. I tried my best not to register for toys or clothes but a few snuck in there! I partially use my wishlists/registry to keep track of items we want- regardless of if they are purchased by someone else or eventually by us. Just an organizational thing. I wouldn't worry about the number too much as just making sure to register for essentials first. Lots of people have large showers or multiple and want to give lots of options to guests!
  • A friend of mine has well over 400 items. It's crazy. I think I had like 80 on mine for DD1.

  • Thanks! So far I've lowered it to 157! Like most mentioned, it was mostly clothing, nothing special either so I removed most. But it's true that people will just buy that on their own. I've got a good mix of items on there, ranging in different prices to accommodate our guests.
  • Man, you guys have a lot on your registries!! Def take off clothes as you'll get plenty. If I can remember correctly I only registered for about 50 with my son. Now with this pregnancy, we're having our second daughter and a friend is hosting a baby shower for us. Our other daughter passed away last year and we never had a shower for her since she was born with a lot of health issues. Anyhow, I only registered for maybe 22 items since I have a lot of things. I mostly registered for girly things and items I needed new of. Hope this helps!

So so sorry for the loss of your first baby girl, congratulations on this little one.
  • The only reason I put a few clothing items on my registry is so that people can get a sense for the style I'm going for w the baby. I know that, inevitably, I will get things that are NMS, but I'd still like for people to have a guide for the things I'd want to dress the baby in.
  • I have about 105 on babies r us and 40 on buy buy baby...there are a lot of things needed!! It doesn't mean everything will get purchased but it's good to have a variety for people to pick from!
  • I have 95 on Amazon. 30 of those are mama things like PP supplies, nursing bras/tanks, etc. I also have medicine items and all my nursing supplies since I'm using it has my personal list. Actual baby items is probably closer to 30-35.

I'm a bare necessities person, so I find that my list tends to be on the conservative side.
  • About 60. But I'm a bit of a minimalist.
  • I have 135 on one and 97 on the other. Wanted to give people lots of options I guess!
  • Did you all put toys on there?...The majority of people at my shower are going to be my mom's friends. Most of them I know okay, but I don't know if I am underestimating how much people will actually buy from my registry. I honestly just mainly put things I figured I would end up buying afterwards. The few friends I have coming I highly highly doubt will buy from my registry. I have some family coming, not so much though. I have 33 items and like half are nursing supplies and soaps/detergent/creams. The rest are mostly pricier things like a monitor and moses basket, high chair, manual pump, Boppy, and baby carrier (most of these things $45-70, monitor is $130) I feel like I'm asking a lot or people will think I'm expecting too much if I put much more than bare necessities, BUT, for people that want to get me something smaller and more fun, like toys or clothes, should I put those things on there?..I don't have a preference and will be so grateful no matter what people may choose to get us, on or off the registry, but in turn would it be more helpful since they may not know my style (or if it's a girl or boy!)? Also, (thanks for hanging in there with me!) should I put diapers? I'm planning on doing cloth, and I know they can be pricey so I'm hesitant to put those on there before the shower. If I get disposable I will most likely end up using them and will be happy with that as well, but cloth is my first choice personally. I've put mostly all organic or all-natural products (that's what will buy myself but will not turn my head away from gifts/samples), so I honestly feel like I'm overdoing it as it is and am a little embarrassed that I will seem like I am asking too much. Lol. I really over think these things.
  • @MercyC1130 I would put cloth diapers on your registry if that is what you want! Even if they are more expensive than disposable you might as well ask for what you would like to use. I don't think you should be embarrassed or feel like you are asking too much, the point of a shower is to help you prepare for your LO!

I caved and put some clothes on my registry, I couldn't help myself :) We are team green and I have a feeling my MIL and her friends will buy girl or boy clothes depending on what they think we will have. Buy buy baby had some super cute grey and white clothes so I was hoping that would deter any pinks or blues until our LO arrives! We can always return items if we get too much of one thing.

Lol. I really over think these things.

I did. I put toys and some books on there. And a swing that you can hang. A friend of mine suggested that. I only have a couple of big things...two car seats and a Rock n play. And then I did diapers, wipes, nail clippers, thermometer, bottles, nipples, bath tub, boppy pillow, breast milk supplies like bags, towels and washclothes, pacifiers, bibs, some safety stuff like outlet covers. So much stuff when you start adding it all up. We definitely put diapers up there. My best friend had her church shower last weekend and she said she got enough diapers to probably last a year. Most of this stuff we'll end up buying even if we don't receive.
  • @MercyC1130 I did put cloth diapers on my registry (actually put a bulk package of 24 CD because it was discounted), but I put it on there knowing my mom would be the one to buy them (since I specifically mentioned to her that these were the big ticket item we were hoping we'd get). At least if you put CDs on there, people will realize you don't want disposable.

As for toys and clothes, I didn't put any on because I know we'll get them anyway
  • Mine's 36 including the nursery furniture, which I intend to buy myself.  I kind of figured a lot of my shower guests would just ignore the registry and buy whatever adorable clothes/toys they felt like?  Guess I should go add some things.....

  • I have 173 items on my babies r us registry & 85 on my target registry. I've already received most of the big ticket items. I know i will not get everything & thats ok. I wanted to give people options in case they cannot find the exact items. I've shopped for a lot of showers from people's registry and its very frustrating to have only a few things on the list, none of which you can find! A couple of times, I've just went off and bought random things from other stores because of the limited options.

Oh yeah, my mom has been buying us so many boy clothes because she is convinced it's a boy! That's a good idea. :)
  • @wulfpackgirl Sounds similar to my list. Yeah, even if we don't receive registry items, the discount afterwards will be nice for the things I don't necessarily want second hand (bath/medicine cabinet stuff).
  • I have 80 items on my registry .... most of the stuff is a reasonable price ... there are a few pretty expensive things on there (like the baby monitor), which makes me feel guilty.  My side of the family is very against baby showers, and I think I've internalized the feeling that I'm somehow being rude by asking for anything at all.  But, my MIL is the one who is organizing the shower and she said it would be better to do a registry, so I'm going along with that ....
  • @rachswi That gives me the idea to nudge my dad and stepmom for the CD..they were asking about a birthday gift for me and I never know what say, but this year I actually do need and want stuff! Usually it's like a towel and a lotto ticket :p (in retrospect I could have put all three of these posts in one, lesson gathered for less clutter!)
  • Yeah I have 160 items because I haven't edited the list yet... Should probably do that before people start getting me double items!!!

Mine is 107. I did put all the big ticket items in there just because I want the discount after the shower for any unpurchased items...I don't expect guests to actually purchase them, outside of maybe grandparents.

It's also nice if you have friends like me and mine...we usually just all throw in on one big thing for somebody, be it weddings or babies. We all have that one Pinterest friend who loves to wrap and make bows and those that show up with the wal mart bag as wrapping, I'm the wal mart girl so it's nice to just give cash to the Pinterest friend.

I'm also ftm and had a lot of "what does this do" moments with the scanner...so it may be a little bit over the top.
  • I believe I have close to 60 items on mine my crazy and very generous sister went and bought some of the most expensive items already and sent them right to my house since she can't attend my shower but I'm planning on adding more soon I'm having two separate showers so I'd rather give people at least an idea of what I'm looking for I feel more and more guilty every time I add to it though my friend jokingly calls it my "buy me stuff list"
  • In the sixties somewhere. I only registered for a few pieces of clothing, so that definitely lowered it a lot. We also don't have a lot of room for unnecessary stuff in our apartment.

  • I'm in the 50s and really don't wanna register for much more. We combined our Buy Buy Baby, Amazon, and local registry on MyRegistry.com. A couple of things are just listed for a completion discount. We have a small apartment so I'm going with the bare minimum of supplies. We registered maybe 2-3 toys/teethers and 1 outfit I really love. I did make sure to have a nice variety of things ranging from $10-$150 to suit my family and friends' budgets (mom/mom-in-law gifts are the pricy ones and family members are going in together on a couple $50-$100 items).
  • I have 150 items on my registry but I'm having two showers.
  • I did register for toys but only because with a November baby Christmas is right around the corner and that way family has ideas what we want/need for her.
  • Ours is at 170 and just doing babies r us. Most items are very small and under $10, I see it as a running list and reminder of items I want to purchase.
