I get really sad when I hear people talk about not vaccinating their children. I pray for your children and the other children you are harmfully affecting. It's sad that one adult's stupid decision could not only kill their kid but also kill other children.

Do people just disregard the fact that I'm vaccinating but just on a modified schedule. Learn to read.
I felt the same way reading this whole debate. I'm definitely not anti Vax at all!!! I just want to give my baby time to process the vaccines he needs, slowly and fewer at a time. I have no problem making more trips to the Dr office, and I highly doubt it will cause him to feel negatively about the office. By the end of the first year, he will have most (I wouldn't do them all ie:flu shots, even if I was doing the recommended schedule) of the same vaccines as everyone else! And God forbid something like the measles outbreak happens again, I also reserve the right to change my schedule and bump them up!
To each their own. I choose what I want to do, you choose what you want to do. Simple as that.
True. Because when your decision adversely affects your child or someone else's child or elderly relative, YOU will be responsible for suffering the consequences of that.

Oh and thank GOD your innocent little child doesn't have to spend a single day of his life in a HORRIBLE place like a daycare. You are doing a great thing for him.
I don't think I said daycare was horrible? I'm just fortunate enough to have a flexible work schedule that allows him to be with me, my other half or my mom. I'm thankful to not have that added expense.

Yep. I'm shocked that people still think this way about vaccines these days. And don't try to hide behind an "alternate vaccine schedule"...you are still afraid of them. People totally overthink this shit.

I disagree, I am pretty much as far from anti Vax as you can get. I work in the autism field and honestly believe the "link" is a bunch of BS! However, I am doing an "alternate schedule" although I really just think of it as a spaced out schedule. I am not fearful of vaccines at all, and obviously don't want my little one to catch anything serious. Although I will opt out of the less serious ones, like a flu shot, as I have never really seen a point. Get the flu, take your meds, get over it... don't really see a need to preempt that.
In the end, my main concern is that 31 years ago when I was born there were a total of 12 recommended vaccines and doses. Today the typical CDC schedule is around 45 doses of nearly 30 vaccines, all before age 6. I believe in medical advancements, but do feel this may be kind of overkill. I think 5 shots at a time (with some being combined with up to 3 vaccines) seems like a lot to give to such a little body. I want to spread them out, and be certain there aren't any reactions going on.
I didn't know this would get so ... Heated ...thanks for the replys.. I was told to get the whooping cough shot .. Any thoughts on it ..
I will be getting the whooping cough vaccine, as will DH and my mom/MIL who will be babysitting. I feel comfortable getting it, since my immunity will help lo develop immunity to it. I will not be getting the flu vaccine that is also recommended during pregnancy.

You know the flu kills as many people annually as breast cancer, right? And not just babies and the elderly. It kills healthy adults, too.

Yes, I'm aware the flu can be deadly. However, when I weigh my choices, I feel it is something that has plenty of warning and safe courses of action to treat it. Millions of people a year get the flu, and recover quickly without any repercussions, it is not an automatic hospital stay or death sentence. It is manageable, and therefore a risk I have decided is worth taking.

What do you mean, plenty of warning? People are contagious before symptoms are present. And even if YOU get the flu and recover quickly, the people you may transmit it to before you realize you have it may not.

I meant plenty of warning that you are sick. Ie: body aches, fever etc. Time to begin treating before it becomes more serious. I've had the flu several times in my life. And while it sucks, I just don't feel it is something I need to vaccinate against. If (probably when) in LOs life, he gets the flu, I will get him meds, and let it run its course. Every parenting decision is a risk assessment and we all decide what we are comfortable with. I can't keep him in a bubble because of bad things in the world.
I know there's a lot of confusing fuss about them.. My parents vaccinated me.. My mom in law never vaccinated any of her kids and they're all healthy.. They just eat well.. Also my friend in the medical field says the strands of vaccines they give are not even the same strands that are going around here.. From Japan and such.. Lol so what good can that do? Who knows. I'm not vaccinating my son.. And I havnt been vaccinated since I was 15.. Hubby never.. He's fine
I can't even touch this logic. I'm glad your parents made the right choice. That is all I will say.

Most people who die of flu complications in this country are either very old, very young, or immunocompromised. I will absolutely get my kid the flu shot, at least until she is old enough that the warning signs would be recognizable enough to get her to a doctor and get any necessary medication to treat it. While i agree that there is typically "plenty of warning" such as fever, body aches, etc, i don't really understand how your infant would be able to tell you that he/she is feeling those symptoms and therefore is about to get the flu and needs medical attention. You likely wouldn't know that your infant had the flu until it was already full blown flu. Now a 10 year old? yeah, they'll tell you when they start to feel bad (i'd probably still vaccinate my kids still at that age, but your arguement against the flu vaccine stands up better in that case).
The flu vaccine has also been shown to minimize the length and strength of the flu for people who get the vaccine but then still get the virus. i don't have kids yet, but i'm told sick kids aren't super fun to be around or deal with...so that would probably be enough of a positive for me to continue getting my kids their flu shots. that and the fact that they'll be in day care and then school with all sorts of germs all day long.

Stuck in the box
I suggest you see how many "flu" patients are in the ICU on a vent each winter. They take up a lot. And you know the leading cause of pneumonia? The Flu. And the Flu shot decreases the risk of pneumonia significantly.

Non of my friends kids been ever vaccinated. And they are all healthy kids who never got sick.Neither will I vaccinate my baby. Zero vaccines ! I don't believe in vaccines. Thank God my husband agree with my decision and support me in that. There is no need for 3/4 of the vaccines in USA that are in a regular USA vaccine schedule . It's all about money I believe. Healthy care industry is the beggiest trillion use business . No way I would vaccinate my newborn !

Wrong. Pharmaceutical companies LOSE money on vaccines. They would make a ton more profit if people actually got sick from the diseases we vaccinate against.

Oy. The whole "I've never had vaccines and never been sick" thing drives me up a tree. It's likely because of vaccines that you've never had measles/pertussis/polio, etc. You've never had those diseases because you've never encountered those diseases. And you've never encountered those diseases because they have been wiped out/nearly eradicated by vaccines.

There is a huge difference in 'getting sick' or not and not get Polio. Vaccines do not prevent gasto bugs, colds, and what not. They prevent deadly and life altering diseases.
That can't be right... There is an actual council that has to pay out to those killed or harmed by vaccines -- some people react MUCH differently than other people to vaccines.
I'll be vaccinating. I was vaccinated as a child and although i still got all of the childhood diseases (whooping cough, mumps, measles, German measles, chicken pox (twice)) I believe that they would've been much more severe if I had not been vaccinated.
I just got the whooping cough vaccine today so that baby is protected until he can get his jabs.
I'm awaiting the birth of my second child. With my first I followed the docs recommendation and vaccinated on their schedule. As a result I have a five year old that is in speech therapy and many docs are saying his speech delay is related to vaccinations, specifically the MMR combo. Due to my personal experience, I will be opting out of certain vaccines with my second child. My advice, do lots and lots of research. Doctors are not all knowing.

Your decision leaves your child (and the newborns, the elderly, and immuno-compromised around you) vulnerable to deadly diseases longer.
