Brand new mom here at 5 w 2 d and I'm wondering how doctors expect us to work out with aching breasts and nipples? Not to mention if morning sickness starts in?! Any advice for coping with this?
I have stuck to low impact - walking and biking. That is what my doctor recommended, but I also had IVF so my restrictions may be different than yours.
Rule of thumb here is don't do anything you weren't already doing. For example, if you didn't already run Marathons, now is not the time to start training for one.
Do what you're able. I still have to go to the gym 8+ times a month as a part of my insurance incentive and all I plan on pacing myself on the treadmill or reading a book on the recumbent bike.
Do what you can when you can. It's ok if you skip one, or many, trips to the gym for a few weeks. I haven't run in a week and have only been going to the gym 2x a week for about 4 weeks now. I do get walks in on the weekends. That's way down from running 3 times a week and going to the gym 2x a week. I'm starting to feel better and my doctor said this is totally normal, and I can get back to running when I feel like it. So don't worry too much! First trimester is all about surviving.
I did go this to the gym this morning and did the stationary bike. I miss watching the calories fly off on the elliptical but I don't think the girls could stand all the bouncing just yet. And I walk the dog nearly every day. Fingers crossed that my energy stays up and my nausea is manageable!
I am an avid walker and found I couldn't do anything in the first trimester due to fatigue. Just entered the second trimester and able to walk like usual. Do what you can. Best wishes
