Captain crunch and McDonald's cheeseburgers were all I could keep down until pretty recently. I got some protein and vitamins and did the best I could.
Don't stress OP and anyone who criticizes your ability be a good mom based on the food you can stomach needs to go get a good cheeseburger
I understand morning sickness, but fast food really is "that bad" for you! It's actually awful for your body, zero nutritional value, and is likely making you feel worse. I hate to sound mean, but you should feel bad. You should be making the best possible choices for your little babe. Just driving by a KFC makes me feel sick to my stomach. There are so many other options out there, I am confident you will be able to find something to satisfy your belly! Go to a whole foods and buy some pre made dinner. Or buy the Oh She Glows cookbook and start pumping some nutrients into your body. You can do it!
Wtf is this article and how is this even remotely helpful? There are much better ways to give advice than to post an article that makes someone who already feels terrible feel even worse. [-X
Starburst and McD's FF with sweet & Sour sauce have been my everything this pregnancy. I am active and healthy and guess who else is? My Baby. You eat what you can and do what you can. You're growing a human, it's hard work. Don't beat yourself up about things you dont need to. Good luck with everything OP!
WWSD What would Snoop do? She'd eat a damned McD's cheeseburger and enjoy every bite. @Snoopylovesbelle
Purse burger FTW.
Op, girl I feel ya. I've had it rough for the past 12 weeks and counting. Keep trying alternatives and healthy snacks, but do what you can! I try to balance my bad days with somewhat good ones. I've found luck in finding a few things that seems to work for me and hammering those hard. For me, it's been a lot of watermelon, carrots, nectarines, hummus, cheese sticks, home made enchiladas & quesadillas. ETA: I've found that tracking my calories though an app specifically to monitor my protein intake has been very helpful. I was having trouble reaching the 75g/day so I found a pregnancy safe protein powder. Is protein powder the best protein source during pregnancy? No. However, if that's what gets me to 75g because I can't choke anything else down, it is absolutely the best choice I can make. If my MS allowed me to choke down salads, grilled chicken, and brown rice, I would. Gotta work with what we've got!
I'm not going to let mommy guilt rule over me because I know that I'm doing my best and constantly trying to get better. Mommy guilt can't help me reach for the organic kale and free range chicken, but experimenting and doing what I'm capable of will help. This week I'm going to try adding whole wheat toast and peanut butter & chicken salad sandwiches. Good luck!
I lived off of McDonalds Snack Wraps and watermelon for about 3 weeks. Like a PP said, just make sure you're taking your prenatals and you'll be able to get through this mama!
Uhmmm yeah, there's a reason for my avatar. Mmm big mac!
OP, nothing in moderation is "that bad." Too much water can kill you just as easily as not enough. I'm a firm believer in eating what you can - some people are lucky in that they never have to deal with morning sickness or food aversions or cravings while pregnant - lucky them. But clearly there are a lot of us who sympathize with you. Just make the healthiest choices you can as often as possible - your doctor will let you know if they think you need to make adjustments to your diet. Edit quote box - ahhhh why won't you work?!?!!!
@hailees Which protein powder have you been using? I have a hard time hitting the 75g of protein too....I got an organic plant based protein powder to supplement what I'm missing and I ended up all night with the worst gas pains EVERRR. I've been looking for a replacement!!
Sweet @hailees I haven't used mine in awhile. How did you go about adjusting it for pregnancy?
Currently mine is all from when I was trying to loose pre pregnancy. Is there a way to adjust it or reset it all?
Yes. Click "more" on the bottom right. Then click goals and just update your weight/goal weight/weekly goal so it isn't constantly telling you how much you'd lose if you ate like that every day. I just put my weight and goal weight at the same #, then changed weekly to maintain. Then under nutrition goals, click calorie/macro and update.

Personally, I am using isagenix. It isn't the highest quality every protein powder, but I do feel comfortable using it during pregnancy in moderation (though not everyone on the internet agrees with this, it's what I'm comfortable with). I am sure to not exceed 1 serving per day and I take it at different time than my prenatals, taking into consideration the vitamins that are in the shake. It's called IsaLean and the flavor I get is chocolate. And no, I do not sell isagenix... Protein.. The struggle is so real. Good luck!
ETA: I asked my dr and she was okay with me taking this. Obviously the goal is to get protein from whole foods, but she was very okay with me supplementing.

I'm using orgain organic plant based protein. So far no problems. Which one are you using?
Hi OP. I am sorry that you are struggling with ms and food aversions. You are NOT a bad mom for eating KFC. When I'm not feeling well, I do a lot of smoothies with protein powder and frozen fruit. I know you said that you have trouble with milk, but, have you tried coconut milk? It's a little thicker and has a lot more calcium than milk. I wouldn't drink it plain or anything, but I do put in my smoothies and it's really good like that. It's really hard to navigate the nausea and food aversions, and you should try to eat healthy when you can, but if you cant, cut yourself some slack and eat KFC or a cheeseburger or whatever. Your baby will be fine. I try to snack on fruit and veggies (cutting them up in advance is helpful), and eat healthy protein and salads (couldn't do salads until about 2 weeks ago). However, I did have a gargantuan size burrito from Chipotle today and a cookie dough blast from Bruster's. Nom nom nom nom. Both my baby and my mothering abilities are, in fact, still awesome and in tact. I don't feel bad! Don't let anyone mom shame you. Just do the best you can.
I second the smoothie suggestion. You can't even taste the spinach if you have other fruits in there. I also buy the Naked smoothies from the grocery and drink them on the way to work. I wasn't able to choke down a salad but I felt better that I was getting some version of veggies/fruits. Good luck! Ps. Now I want some KFC mashed potatoes reallllly badly

@aphilli8 Orgain also! The vanilla flavor. It upsets my stomach so much!
I just had my first plate of spinach during pregnancy! It was drenched in a sugary salad dressing, but I'll take what I can get! Try adding in some healthy stuff like sneaking greens into a smoothie to balance out some of the junk. And maybe there is a healthier version of these things. Find a non McDonald's burger?

The smoothie suggestion is a great one. You can get so much healthy stuff in without tasting it. I use cooked sweet potato, frozen banana and whatever other fruit I can find in season, protein powder, milk or yogurt, a handful of spinach, some nut butter, vanilla, cinnamon, and veggie powder. But there are a million recipes out there.
I think most anyone will agree that fast food takes the place of more nutritious food that you and your baby need. So do what you can, when you can, to fill those holes. Whether or not it's actually causing its own harm to you or your baby depends who you ask. I have an opinion but I have no qualifications to make my opinion particularly valuable to anyone outside my family, so I'm not sharing it. Frankly, whether or not it's harmful to you and baby is probably not helpful to know when you feel you can't do anything about it because stressing about it isn't healthy. Obviously it's better to eat anything than not eat so eat what you can, strive to eat better when you're able, don't stress yourself out, and be proud of all the things you do right for for baby. I hope you feel better soon.
...I'm just saying my DH definitely got a Hawks Box from McDs for the family on Friday. And it was AMAZING! Zero regrets. Do what you can. Think about all the women before us who had babies and didn't have these rules. There are women out there who do drugs and drink copious amounts of alcohol while pregnant. McDs...not so bad.
