I saw a woman with one of those "fake" babies!!!

DH, DD and I went out to dinner to the Macaroni Grill.  There was a couple with sitting at a table next to us.  I'd say they were in their late 30s. The woman was holding in her arms one of those babies that looks like they're real but isn't.  She had it wrapped in a blanket and at first I wasn't sure if it was fake or not.  But then she handed it to her husband in a way that I knew it was fake because it was so stiff.  Then he just laid it down on a chair.

When we left she was rocking it in her arms.  Weird!

  • That would freak me out. I would not be able to stop STARING at them. What kind of person would bring a fake baby to a restaurant? Odd.
  • Wow!  That is so odd!  I thought that loon on 20/20 the other night was such a wacko.
  • Weird.  I wonder if it was some part of marriage counseling or something.
  • I think that is really sad.  I feel bad for those women.  I think the people who are nutty about their dogs are kind of sad, but at least they are living creatures, not inanimate objects.  It is sad that those people don't adopt, since they seem to have so much nuturing to give.
  • You know - ever since I had kids I noticed that the service at a restaurant is A LOT faster. I think they are trying to get us out of there asap. I wouldn't be opposed to carrying a fake baby around if I got better/faster service! Wink

My first reaction was that I felt overwhelmingly sad for that woman on 20/20 because she obviously wanted attention. She even said that when she goes out with the "baby" that if no one looks at her she is let down. She clearly needs help. I thought that it was that she had love to give until she said that she wanted attention... this is the kind of person that would make her baby sick for attention - Munchausen syndrome anyone?
