Gender reveal party

We are expecting baby #2 and can find out gender tomorrow at our ultrasound. Husband wants to have a reveal party, but I don't feel I need to have one. If we had a party it wouldn't be for another 2 weeks because his parents are out of town. I refuse to wait that long, and husband wants to know if I know. Is it silly to have a reveal party for friends and family 2 weeks after we already know? Also we will have to keep it a secret too? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

If guys want a party and can wait to keep the secret then do it.
Personally, I'm not a fan of the gender reveal party. Are you just inviting family or friends too?

  • I am not a fan of gender reveal parties myself but I really don't understand them when the parents already know. In my opinion the only interesting part is seeing the parents reaction. So if you do one please don't know beforehand.

  • If he really wants to have one, go for it. This is our first child, and it's the first grandchild and great grandchild on both sides so we are doing one. But really we're just doing an end of the summer BBQ and we will announce boy or girl if baby cooperates at the ultrasound. You don't have to do it all cutesy if you don't want to. I didn't want anything too elaborate :)
  • Why not tell family and then in two weeks have a family barbecue to hang out and enjoy a cake to celebrate? Seems like a compromise where you don't have to wait to find out if your little one is a son or a daughter.

Also, gender is about identity and what you are referencing is sex which is the genitalia.
  • I am 17 wks now..we had the blood test done at 14 wks and they posted all results on my medical page of their website...we do not know the gender but our 19 year old daughter does...dh wants a reveal party..I personally don't care about the party but he is so excited I couldnt say no...so I wait to find out too..
  • I love attending and having gender reveal parties. We had one with family when finding out with my son. We are team green this time so obviously won't be having a party.

Personally, I think it makes it much more special when you find out at the party with the rest of the attendence. I would not be able to however, wait 2 weeks after the U/S to find out.

  • We revealed at our baby shower with #1. There was a 14 week gap between our a/s and baby shower. I'd say 2 weeks is much more manageable if you do want to have a reveal party.

This time we are taking pictures with DD to do an electronic announcement to friends and family since we aren't having another shower.
  • Well we had the ultrasound, and of course had to go to a specialist, because baby has hydronephrosis (fluid in kidneys) more common in boys, and what my first son had. So we found out we are having a boy and even if I waited I would have known a boy bc of this condition. Kicker is, before our ultrasound, mother in law insisted my husbands sister be home for gender reveal, and booked her a flight! We live in Midwest, she lives on west coast. So I am now having a huge gender reveal party bc it has to be all fancy since she is coming home for this occasion. Wish she and her husband could both come out for a visit and not a gender reveal. Not what I am looking forward to. This is our 2nd baby, 3rd grandchild for my parents, 2nd for husbands parents. But first pregnancy that we have lived in state with family. With the first everything was through FaceTime.

I also love in the mid west with in-laws on the west coast.... I feel your paaaaiiiinn!
  • We are doing one just for immediate family the day after we find out and I'm already wondering how we'll hold it in because we will know but will be revealing it to everyone else. My husband and I wanted to share the experience of finding out just the two of us.
  • Our family is spread out across the state so we decided to take a cute gender reveal photo and send it out via text. Everyone loved it! It worked out great for us and everyone enjoyed they were finding out at the same time!
  • We are also going to do a little video of the gender reveal and text it to family who can't be there.
  • I understand your husbands sentiments as I wanted to do something also to celebrate baby! Even if it's number 2. We were going to reveal sex through a cake for my in laws and my mom while on vacay. The nurse was awesome and emailed from my phone. I forgot to have her delete the email, and when I was checking my sent file (w/o thinking) for an email to my landlord, I saw part of the text of her email. My husband and I decided that this was more for grandparents! So if you want to find out with hubby, you can look at it that way. ;) so in closing, it wasn't our plan to know, now we do, and we just changed our feeling towards it, it's for the grandparents. It's exciting when your hubby is excited, don't let others take that away if they don't agree with the "gender reveal" thing.
