Savings!!

I know that with our new addition to the family I am really looking at ways to save money in a lot of aspects of our life. I figured I'm not the only one, and thought we could use a thread to share things like sales or specials that we find around. Stuff like Zulily specials or Amazon Lightning Deals or whatever. It may not become a super active thread, but at least when it gets bumped because someone found something we'll all notice

Ooh I wonder if the small Alimentum cans count?

For those mamas in New England, Shaws and Star Market both give you $5 off of $50 spent on ANY baby items. Formula, diapers, bottles, lotions, etc.
  • @hoodoll82 this is good to know! I usually go to Hannafords (dunno if thats in other places besides VT) because when I buy formula there i use my $5 off coupon, but then they always print out a coupon for the same formula...usually its $4 off two cans, but some times its $8 off ONE CAN and that with my $5 in the mail makes it half off!

And when I say can I mean the 22.2 oz tubs, not the small ones.

Yeah we have Hannafords in MA too! One thing we do not lack here is supermarket chains. I probably should comparison shop more. I do know our formula is cheaper (the base price) at Shaws than Stop & Shop, Babies R Us, CVS or Walgreens. Have not checked Hannafords, Big Y or Market Basket.
  • Do any of you gals know if Target takes the $5 Similac coupons that are like checks? I'd assume so because they're a manufacturer coupon, but the people at the grocery sometimes act like they're a mystery so it makes me wonder about other places...
  • No suggestions as of yet, but I love this thread idea!

@swaugh14 I have used the vouchers at Target. They're supposed to take them like checks, I used a Similac manufacturer coupon as well. We've switched to Enfamil, but I have found deals at Publix, as well. If you go online they usually have coupons. The last time I bought it, they had $5 off 2 tubs, so with the 2 Enfamil vouchers I had, I got 2 tubs for $37. I usually go online and see who has the best deals before shopping. For huggies, you can find coupons on their website to print out.

ETA: whole post didn't go through
  • I love this thread!!
  • I like the idea for buying two boxes of diapers at Target and getting the gift card. I just signed up for a free trial of Amazon Mom and got a box of 192 diapers for $35.99 with a $5 coupon and the "subscribe and save" option. So this saved me $10 on the box. I still feel like I could probably do better on diapers somehow.(We use Pampers Swaddlers size 2.)

What are you ladies paying for diapers? Buying tips?
I read a blog post that you should be paying $0.17/diaper but that was an old post and I can't really get below $0.22-.25/diaper so far.
  • If you aren't too picky about brand, the target brand of diapers,Up&up I believe, has been great! And about 17 cents a diaper. They have the yellow-blue line and leak guard like pampers. I love pampers but these are my second go to option when I don't feel like spending an arm and a leg on pampers. Walgreens brand is also similar and did well. About 17 cents a diaper as well.
  • @virginiaunicorn11 LUVS is 0.14 a diaper with Amazon mom. Again Luvs isn't for everyone but she it never leaks pee (9 hours in between changes at night) just the occasional poop up her back which happens in every brand.
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • Thanks, ladies! I want to try those brands (and will) but am tired of buying different brands only for LO to blow out of them, so am a little gun shy. I wish there were sample packs. Will definitely try them though.

I also wish there was a local diaper swap or something. Would be happy to give all my unused Huggies to someone
  • I've been using amazon mom for diapers too. I think we are going to try Up & Up next... Friends say to provide daycare with the cheap diapers, lol. So as long as they are good, we will probably do a mix of them and pampers.

The downside of amazon packs is that LO is entering size 2 and I have a boatload of size 1 left. That I'll keep squeezing her into for another week or so...

I did manage to sell unused size newborn on Facebook. A lot of towns have "virtual yard sale" sites. I've gotten lots of cheap used baby gear this way, as well as sold the diapers as I mentioned. I also swapped enfamil coupons for Similac ones I needed!
  • Huggies is my fav big name brand. For diapers I usually go to Target, because for some reason the majority of the time I've had LO they have been running that promo. Only once did I go to buy diapers and they weren't running it. I have purchased some Luvs and tried them off and on, and so far no problems there either, except that they fit a little big in the size 1. My LO is *still* in nb size, tho I can see day to day now they're fitting smaller and smaller. My problem is I haven't found a next size up diaper that don't seem huge on him. I plan to try the Up&up brand at some point, but I'm waiting for us to jump that size

  • Costco has the cheapest Huggies from what I can tell. I'm not really loving the Huggies diapers, but I do love the sensitive wipes. I get them from Costco as well for cheap! I just bought a small bag of pampers baby dry to try out. I like that they're not as bulky as Huggies. Next I'll try Up & Up. I really want to spoil myself (and lo) with some Honest diapers, but I'm holding myself back because they're ridiculously expensive. Not a fan of the smell of Luvs either.

Yeah I basically posted "I'll mail some to you if you mail some to me!"

Maybe a little unsafe to give my address to a stranger but house sales are already public record... And I've only done it on a site for people in my town only.
  • @karastwin thank you so much for the ibotta suggestion. I just downloaded it and have already gone crazy unlocking rebates. I can't believe how many rebates there are on there for things I buy every week like milk and eggs!
  • @laurenann0405 you're welcome! A friend told me about it and I'm obsessed! DH stopped to get milk yesterday and I actually picked the receipt out of the trash can so I could get my 20 cents! But I seriously buy milk, bread, and eggs pretty much weekly and those things are on there pretty regularly. I get so excited to redeem my rebates......
  • @Karastwin You're right it does add up and every little counts! An app like the ibotta on the iPhone that I found that gives you rebates back on common groceries is Checkout 51. It's easy and you can scan the receipt right to the app using your phone. They sometimes have deals where you can get back more for an item if the app is promoting it.
  • swaugh14 The 5$ Enfamil things you are getting in the mail are checks and the person at the register should run that just like you wrote a personal check (I work in the back office of a grocery store and get frustrated when people don't do it right!) lol  I have personally used two checks and a 5 dollar off coupon at Target all in one shot.

KarasTwin Since you mentioned Publix, we have a Baby Club where you can sign up for coupons and they get mailed to you. They are store coupons so they can be used along with manufacturer coupons and they are not just for baby things! Produce, deli--those items can be included as well. It (used to) also come with a really awesome book that covers a lot of information about baby from birth to five years and it was really cool.  Just check with the customer service desk at your Publix.  While you are there ask them for a UPromise card which doesn't save you money at Publix, but is a college savings account that you can swipe at checkout to save for college for your little one.  I heard that it's not that much, but every little bit helps! Just get the card and follow the instructions online at home to sign up and remember to have your cashier scan it at checkout. :)
  • @poppy1099 I signed up online for the baby club several weeks ago, but I haven't got anything so far.

I think it takes five or six weeks to start up. I actually had forgotten about it until I was shopping the other day with my LO and a cashier gave me the sign up form....and I work there! Lol

We have rummage sites on Facebook too. We just always meet in a public place to exchange merchandise. We've gotten tons of excellent condition baby stuff that way!

@Poppy1099 Too funny because I ended up going and using the $5 check before seeing your response. Of course the cashier had no clue what to do with it and I told him that I know at Kroger they have to put in a code and run it through like a check. He ignored me and keyed it in as a generic $5 off coupon, threw it in the drawer and said "There! That's way easier!" I thought yeah, easier and you probably just caused someone else a headache!

    ETA:
@KarasTwin I downloaded ibotta and it seems very addicting and wonderful! Thanks!
  • I haven't posted before but thought I would share a good savings! My baby is 10 weeks and getting every day things is definitely harder so I shop online a lot! More recently I've started using jet.com -- great discounts on lot of baby stuff and every day items. The more you buy the more smart cart savings you get
  • Oh sorry forgot to add --you get $10 off your first order with the promo code save10more
  • Retailmenot.com is always a good place to check as well for coupon codes!
  • We use the Costco diapers and they have been great they just ran a promo for 4 dollars off of the Kirkland signature so I got two boxes there. I love the little lines they have on them and my kiddo seems to not have any skin reactions either. I will have to check out these other deals though as you can never have too many diapers and I just got a 30 dollar gift card for target!
  • Also I shop at fred meyer I think it's just like Kroger and you can load your coupons on your card virtually so I do that then write my list.
