Gender ultrasound @14weeks

My OB says there will be no ultrasound until 20 weeks for the anatomy scan. Luckily, there is an office that specializes in gender ultrasounds (from 14 weeks on up) and 3D/4D ultrasounds (after 22 weeks).
So... I made an appt for 14 weeks. I hope we will find out then. If the sonographer is unsure I can go back in a few weeks to double check.
Has anyone had a scan this early and found out their babies gender?
Even if we don't find out I'll just be excited to see him/her. I've been envying everyone else's pictures for weeks!!

Re: Gender ultrasound @14weeks

  • We found out last time at 16 weeks. This time we will be waitin. For the anatomy scan at 20 weeks to find out baby's sex.

  • I'm with you though, waiting sucks.

    Sorry Posted before finished.
  • I haven't, but Ive had many friends who had correct guesses at 14 weeks

  • The place near me won't attempt to tell the sex of your child before 16 weeks.

  • I had my anatomy scan with my second at 15 weeks and my third baby at 17 weeks. They were right, said both my daughters had their legs wide open and they could easily tell. With my now fourth baby I have to wait until I'm 19weeks for the anatomy scan.
  • @lossholly I am 14W3D today and I am going to a 3D ultrasound tonight. The office I'm going to guarantees they are able to tell you by 15 weeks (they brag about it). I will let you know what happens. I'm not going in with any expectations, just hopeful for a happy healthy baby.
  • Ours won't try until 16 weeks so I'll be 16w6d when we go!
  • I'm jealous! I'm currently switching practices after multiple bad experiences so I won't get to find out even for a while after 20 weeks, I have to get established and such before they will do it.

My SIL found out at 17 weeks with hers, it was perfectly accurate. But even later on it all depends on how the baby is sitting and if they can get a clear view,

  • I'm having one just after 15 wks. Hopefully they can tell since it's the only time my husband can be there!  Let us know how yours goes!
  • No have not.
We will find out the sex of the baby at 18 weeks just like we did with dd.

A few people I know had scans at 15 weeks and the techs made guesses. Some were accurate and some weren't. 50/50 chance they will be right.
  • We just found out at 14+5

I'm having my NT scan tomorrow and apparently the ultrasound tech is really good at looking at the way things are developing and making a pretty accurate guess as early as 12 weeks. He has only been wrong twice out of hundreds of babies. I'm just excited to see my baby and know that everything is going well, but having him take an educated guess at the sex would be fun. I figure it is one result that has a 100% chance of coming out positive!
  • The ultrasound tech at my 13 week check up felt very strongly that the sex of the baby was male, but we won't know for sure till around 20 weeks at our anatomy scan.  My understanding is that at around 18-20 weeks, as long as the baby is positioned well, the tech can usually determine sex with pretty much 100% accuracy.  Before then, the accuracy declines.

  • I had one around 15 weeks but the tech said I was measuring 17 weeks, and she guessed a boy. I'm not buying anything yet until after the anatomy scan though!
  • I won't have my anatomy scan until about 20 weeks.

  • I'm just cheap and don't want to pay the money. I'd rather wait until my 20 week which is scheduled in a month. I think I can hold out :)

  • I'm 13 weeks tomorrow and had my nt scan yesterday. Luckily this kid was sitting in the right position with his legs wide open! Having a boy! We found out early! I go to the 3d/4d places as well. My lady can tell sex at 13 weeks. Most don't tell you til 16-20. I just happened to get very lucky!

  • I found out with DS at a 3d scan at 14 weeks last time, it was obviously a boy to even an untrained eye. Just found out last Friday at 14 weeks that we're having another sweet boy! He was also not shy! As long as the baby is in a good position aka with legs wide open, it's pretty hard to miss those boy parts on a 3d scan at this point. Idk if it's as obvious with girls bc I don't have any experience there.
  • I'm with @AdventureMama on this one. I think finding out early with less certainty is worse than waiting.
But I actually scheduled my anatomy scan later than I was allowed out of anxiety for finding out the sex. They made me push it up. I kinda hope they can't tell....

  • There are schools here that do them early for free, but DH is already super lucky he can get out of work to go to appointments with us. I don't want him to try for another day and then get fed up with it. So we are just going to wait another 4 weeks for the anatomy scan. :)

  • We just had ours today at one day shy of 16 weeks and got a very definitive answer of the sex. I think if you waited 2 weeks it would be a little more fun too. They grow a lot in those two weeks!

  • I have had all of mine right at 14 weeks and they were all correct
  • We are having out a/s in mid September when I will be 19+2. We are Team green but won't be disappointed if we are able to see.
  • I'm going Friday to an elective ultrasound and I will be 16w2d. It's the same place my BFF went to and found out correctly that she was having 2 boys. One at 16 weeks and the other at 14ish weeks. Her boys weren't shy about showing off the goods. They do guarantee that if they can't tell they bring you back for free. I just couldn't wait another month for my anatomy scan.

  • I was supposed to have an early anatomy scan at 16 weeks (yesterday) but my insurance wouldn't cover it until I'm 18. So I'm going back when I'm 19 weeks in September.

  • Last Sunday, I went in for a 2d elective ultrasound at 15w4d and the tech got very good angles of our little one and it was very clear it's a girl. It helped that she was moving around and very active in there. The receptionist had advised me to have a cold, sugary drink right before the appointment and it worked!
  • I was 13 weeks 6 days with my NT scan and she told me it was way too early to tell and that even if she did guess it could very well be wrong (we are trying to be team green I was just curious). Now I don't know if she was blowing smoke up my butt and that's her standard response or if she really meant it. But I do know that around here you won't find anyone to give you a sex confirmation that early. It might be possible though? I'd wait a few more weeks so that you don't get excited over one sex and find its another at a later ultrasound though.

Is that a money back guarantee?

@drillSergeantCat they won't give your money back. However, they won't charge you for any additional 3D ultrasounds appointments in their office until they confirm sex of the baby.

@lossholly the ultra sound tech had absolutely no issues telling me the sex. I had a 3D and opted for the HD 3D version. No concerns with babies heart beat (155bpm) or growth and I am expecting a beautiful baby girl Valentine's Day 2016. Hope this was able to help! Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy!
  • I only had my a/s for my son to find out that he was a boy. I took a recommendation from a friend to drink something with sugar or a little caffeine (like orange juice or coffe or a little soda) to ensure I had a baby moving around and not one tight legged. He was wiggly, but we saw everything we needed at the a/s. A girl in my other mom's group was even told girl at her a/s, but needed follow up ultrasounds because they couldn't see everything (and actually ended up concerned the baby had ancephaly) to find out at a later ultrasound that she was actually carrying a boy, not girl.

  • I had an elective US yesterday at 15W, 2D and the tech guessed girl (prior tech had guessed boy). I really didn't care as much about finding out the sex and really just wanted to see the LO, which was awesome. So yeah, I'm going back at like 17W for a free "double check" at this place, then have my anatomy scan at 20W. I'm just not getting set on either sex at this point because I really do think it's too early to say for sure (or ever to say for SURE, for that matter, unless you have a blood test that includes sex).
  • I had an elective scan done at 14 weeks and they said boy. I'll find out at my a/s in two weeks if this was accurate or not! The tech was certain and said he saw his male genitalia right away. He was upside down in the ultrasound scan, so I flipped the photo.
  • At 13 weeks the lady who did my ultrasound was 95% sure it's a girl!!! I am now 14w2d
  • We were 12 weeks with DS when the u/s tech told us she was pretty positive it was a boy. We had started our appointments a bit later with him so that was the first u/s. It was confirmed at the scan at 18 weeks. This time around the dr won't do another u/s until at least 20 weeks she said... The wait is so hard, really don't know how other ladies do team green. Their willpower must be amazing! lol
