What time does baby sleep?

what time does your baby go to sleep for the night?

Our LO is in bed for the night at around 1030 and will sleep until 630ish but is it too late or it doesn't matter at this age?

Re: What time does baby sleep?

  • Anytime between 8-10pm. Depends on when he does his last feed, which varies. If I put him down too early, he wakes up earlier so I try to put him down to where he doesn't wake up until after 7am.

  • Was going to say the same thing from 8 to 10. But lo is a good sleeper and gets anywhere from 12 to 14 hrs at night with waking up to feed usually 2 to 3 times.
  • Mine is READY for bed by 8pm. He starts to get really cranky at that time. So he's down around 8 and wakes up to feed around 3 or 4am. Then usually awake between 6 and 8 am.
  • Depends on how busy our day is. Yesterday we were outside and playing a lot so she passed out after her 7pm feeding then woke at 130 and ate then slept from 2-6. Usually she wakes anywhere between 2-3 then back up at 7. But like I said depends on how busy the day was. If it wasn't she's harder to put down so it could be as late as930/10 for us
  • Between 9/930 and she sleeps until about 4 then again until 9/930.
  • So I'll just ask in this thread instead of making a new one. LO is now 7 weeks, should I start making a routine?
  • I read somewhere that you shouldn't be too bothered until they are 3 months but our Lo has stayed in this routine from about 2 weeks old. Our day time routine is kinda non existent though. She will sleep 1030-630 solid, up for a drink and change will sleep til 9-10, drink and change then again sleep until about 12 but then won't really sleep from 12-1030.. She has very short cat naps but is still a very happy baby..

Down between 930-10ish and up either 2/3 then up again at 6 and then 9

Edit- she's 7 weeks and a few days
  • LO has made her own routine (11 weeks) she wakes and goes down at the same time every day and takes 2 longer naps during the day (one being 6-8am booooo). She goes down anytime between 8-10 depending on when her last feed is. I get her in her Jammie's and feed her and put her in her crib. Out she goes...

  • Bed time routine starts at 8:00, and bed at 8:30. Once they are 4 months they are ready for a bed time between 6-8, but until then 8-10 is ideal.

  • I am so jealous of you all! My LO screams anywhere from 7pm to 1am and it is impossible to get him to sleep during this period. Sometimes he is done by 11 or midnight but it often goes later. We rarely get up at the same time because I am so tired in the morning we sleep until he is officially up and won't go back to sleep (anywhere between 6-9pm). I have no idea how to do a routine because of this. He is 6 weeks old. Someone tell me it gets better!
  • LO goes down around 8:30-9. She's almost 8 weeks and now sleeps in a crib in her own room. Before we made that transition she would go down around 10 in our room. She seems much more content with this routine. She also takes a 2-3 hour nap during the day, but the location varies (car seat, bouncer, swing, crib). I aim to get her in the crib during the day, but sometimes it just doesn't happen. My DS was much different. His longest nap during the day would be 45 min. If I wanted him to sleep longer, it had to be on me/boppy. He woke frequently during the night with gas & looking for lost binkies. Babies are all so different.
  • I honestly think LO gets sick of looking at our faces by 7:30ish so we start our evening routine then. We pull the shades and dim the lights in the nursery and give him a bottle. If it's bath night we do that first. Once we put his mobile on with his slow jams and he lays in the crib he "dances" and kicks until he's tired. We change him one last time and swaddle him. He's asleep by 8:15. He usually wakes up between 1-2 to eat and he's back down again until 6-7am. He is ALL business during that feed haha. I'm praying this routine stays this way. He is going to be 12 weeks on Thursday and he's been doing this since 7 weeks.
  • Between 9 and 10pm, then wakes around 4-5am to eat. Goes back down until about 7am.

  • I've noticed for our LO that the older she gets, the earlier she seems ready for bed. When she was first born it was always after 10pm...or, let's be honest she wanted to rage all night but WE had had it by 10! We've slowly worked her back, sort of following her lead, to getting her down after her bottle that usually falls between 8-8:30. I go back to work next week so I'm sure then we'll stick right around the 8ish mark to try to have some normal adult time and time to prep for the next day.

Aw I'm sorry your LO screams for that long...is it colic you think? Have you tried swaddling and white noise?
  • I usually start the last feed of the evening at 9-9:30, which has LO asleep at around 10 - 10:30. I try and be consistent on this and he seems to know when his bedtime is. If I try and move it a little earlier then he seems to be more awake and take longer to get down. He then tends to sleep until somewhere between 3 and 5am which is pretty awesome. Usually by about 7:30am he won't settle in his bassinet anymore so I put him in his swing and he'll nap for another hour or two.

But after that he wants to eat every 90 mins so he keeps me pretty busy during the day!

I am not sure if it is colic. He doesn't scream without stopping...we are able to console him except it's this cycle of consoling him, getting him to sleep, him waking up 15 minutes later and starting the process over and over and over again until he finally falls asleep for the night. We have tried so much. I have poured over happiest baby and other baby books and feel like such a failure. He cries for most of the day as well if he isn't asleep.

You haven't failed at all, as horrible as it must be just think of LO being a chatterbox.

We had the same with our Lo fr 5-7 weeks, her poos slowed down and I think she became really uncomfortable and in turn became clingy. We started a routine where we would put her in the bath until she cried, her towel, clothes and swaddle were in the dryer and pulled out as needed so they were very warm, we would massage her with a relaxing traditional Asian baby oil, swaddle and then when I would put her down we put a wheat pack on her. I think it was the warmth and weight
If the wheat pack that tricked her into thinking she was being held and would go to sleep.

It's not going to be forever although it feels like it and your not failing
  • LO starts bedtime at 7:30 because she's clearly done by then. I used to try to push to 8:30 because it made all of her night wakings later and easier for me. I've given up on that though and am just waiting for her to stretch her night wakings up on her own.
  • We're at 7 weeks and just started getting a routine down. He still wakes up every two to three hours to eat, so that sucks, but knowing when I'm going to be waking up helps. He starts bedtime routine between 8:30 and 9 and is asleep by 9:30. He wakes up between 7:30 and 8.

A friend of mine puts her girl (ten days older then my LO) down at 7. I feel like I'd go insane trying to be home and ready to get baby in bed at 7.
  • We start bedtime routine around 830 and he is usually asleep by 930-10. Lately, we have been getting 5 hr stretch of sleep initially so we're up for a quick feed around 230. Back down around 3 and sleeping until about 545. He will often take another 1-2hr nap then, but it's not consistent. I usually get up if it's after 5am.
  • We usually start around 7 pm when my 5 yo gets in bed. We will do bath or wipe face with washcloth, lotion her up, pajamas, sleep sack, and then she will eat for 30-40 minutes before going to sleep. Sometimes she takes a little rocking and sometimes she's out when I put her down. So usually asleep between 8-8:30 although tonight she passed out a little before 8.
  • LO created her own sleep schedule. Nighttime bottle is at 10 or 11 depending on her feedings throughout the day and she goes to sleep right after that until 7 or even as late as 9am. Her naps during the day are never more than 30 minutes though
  • LO is 9 weeks today. And I would say for the past 2 weeks he has kinda found his own routine. Now we start bedtime anywhere from 7:30-8 and he is usually Asleep by 8:30. I give him a pumped bottle of about 4.5 oz. Then he nurses to top off that full belly to get a nice long sleep. He has been sleeping in 8+ hour stretches now pretty consistently, the longest was 10 hours yesterday. He may go back down for 1-2 hours after a quick feed. But we are usually up for good around 7:30. I really think filling him up with the bottle of pumped milk and letting him nurse has really provided the long stretches. I still get up once in the middle of the night to pump. But I'll take it. I hope he keeps this up.
  • We start our bedtime routine at 8. He gets a bath every night because they relax him, I think. And he knows that he's getting one because around 7:30 every night, he has a mini meltdown until he gets a bath. Anyways, bath at 8, bedtime bottle and in bed at 8:30 and sleeps until 7am. He doesn't have a daytime schedule yet, but usually cat naps during the day.
