Middle name of Michael is there to stay--It's a tip of the hat to my father AND his father. DH really likes Isaac, but I'm not totally sold. Joseph is DH's middle name and his grandfather's first name, but he does NOT like the nicknames Joey or Joe.

  • I really like both Isaac and Joseph as first names.  I voted Isaac because there is a good chance he will be Joe or Joey at some point as it's such a common shortage and your DS might like it as well.

    Others:

    Anthony Michael
    Elliott Michael
    Lucas Michael
    Ethan Michael
    Thomas Michael
    Ian Michael
    Benjamin Michael
    Edward Michael
    Vincent Michael

  • I like Isaac and Michael. I voted for Isaac for the same reason pp mentioned above. I don't suggest choosing a name if you don't like the common nn the name leads to.

  • I love Isaac so much!
  • Aw. I think the nickname Joey for a little guy is SO cute. It's also kind of inevitable so I picked Isaac- a name I also really like. There's also some good suggestions here, all mine have already been said! Good luck :)

  • My vote is for Isaac! It is on our list as well. I also don't like people using nicknames unless the parents or said child will like them, but you KNOW they will so I tend to stay away from those names.

  • Love Joseph Michael! But I agree it will likely be shortened to Joe or Joey. I really did not like one of the nicknames for the name we chose for my daughter, but I liked the name and it has a ton of nicknames so I figured we would never even use it. Turns out I call her by that nickname all the time, it totally fits her and now I love it!
  • LOVE Isaac! And I agree with PPs - don't use Joseph if you don't like Joe/Joey, they're inevitable.

Other biblical names I like (if that's what you're going for):
    Asher
    Daniel
    Elijah
    Ethan
    Jacob
    Judah
    Levi
    Noah
    Samuel
    Solomon

  • I like Joseph and Isaac, but don't go for one that you're not totally in love with. I have had plenty of students that have names that usually have nicknames (like Joseph or Alexander) but they just say, no nickname please, call me Joseph. No big deal. If you like it, use it, and don't be afraid of what people might call him. Just correct them.
  • How about Michael Joseph?
  • @eileenmcgoo, I do like Michael Joseph, but Michael is my dad's first name.  I didn't really want to name him DIRECTLY after an immediate relative.
