bottle problem... help!!

Hi July moms! My LO was born 8 weeks premature.. She was due in September but was born July 11th, which is why I'm here :) anyways, as a NICU baby, they used these disposable similac bottles and nipples to do feedings. Well, we finally got to bring our daughter home a coupledays ago, and the hhospital gave us some bottles and nipples and told us that we could get about 2 weeks worth of use out of them. Well last night, we tried introducing these avent bottles that we had bought awhile back, and she HATES them. Absolutely can't stand them. My question is this- what brand of bottle has a nipple most similar to this stupid disposable one?? These nipples are yellow, smell very strongly like rubber, and the nipple part itself is super long. Thanks so much in advance, I'm having a really hard time trying to find a good nipple! Added a pic for reference!

  • Mine likes Medela Calma nipple

  • Dr Brown has a similar looking nipple but I'm sure you can buy those similac nipples online off Amazon if you needed too although it's sucks to use disposables ...also try playtex they have latex nipples that look like that
  • I could of wrote this myself. I use the glass bottles from evenflo the nipples that come with those I think are the closest to the disposable one imo. They might sell just the nipples by themselves you can check if u don't want to buy the whole bottle.
  • The yellow nipples that they give in hospital are called NUK. My baby used them in hospital but use tommee tippie closer to nature bottles now:)
  • I use the munchkin latch bottles. They are a lot like the breast. Love them. The nipples you are describing though are available, not sure what brand but I saw them at Babies R Us
  • Our baby was in the NICU and they recommended dr. Browns and playtex. Before we took her home we tried introducing her to the different nipples and she liked playtex :) it just depends on your baby. My sister in law swears by dr. Browns but I told her the nipple is too big for our daughter and she won't take it. My cousins baby was born at 25 weeks and she recommended avent and playtex. Her other 2 boys were also preemie and they liked dr. Browns. So...I would experiment :) don't buy in bulk, just use samples :D good luck! You can also talk to a lactation specialist. We worked with 3 and I am so happy we did :D
  • It definitely depends on the baby. Our daughter was in the NICU as well and she would only take Tommee Tippee & refused the Avent... A month later & tons of bottles given as gifts that I didn't have time to take back, she's fine with The NUK bottle, Tommee Tippee & the Avent brand... I think it just took her a bit to comprehend the difference, I personally like the NUK brand the best so far!
  • I have the same problem! My son was in the NICU for 3 weeks and used the cheap disposable nipples exactly like the one in the picture. In the hospital he would take 2-4 ounces at a time. We got home and switched to doctor Browns or Tomme Tippy. He would only drink 1-2 ounces at a time. I tried to get him used to them but got worried that he wasn't eating enough. I switched back to the disposable bottles and nipples from the hospital and he's eating around 2 ounces a time. I think his little tummy shrunk.
  • Gerber bottles are super cheap and look just like those.

  • I just posted a very similar story in the Preemie group! My son was born 7 weeks early on 7/21 and spent 15 days in the NICU learning to feed. Now that we're home, we can't find anything that works.... We've literally tried every nipple that Babies R Us sells. We've resorted to using the disposables on Dr. Brown and Gerber bottles now that he's taking more than 2oz at a time. You can order the nipples on Amazon. It's like 22$ for 25 nipples. The NICU told us to wash and reuse them until they start to show signs of wear. We use the regular flow disposable not the preemie though.
