stand in wedding rings?

I am 23 weeks, and my fingers have swelled to the point where I can no longer comfortably put my wedding rings on and off.  I’m afraid if I keep trying they are going to stuck on there – especially with 17 weeks to go!  I want to wear something, so I’m in the market for a knockoff wedding ring to wear until baby makes her appearance.  I don’t want something that looks super fake, but I also don’t want to spend a ton on something I’ll wear for 17 weeks.  Any suggestions??

Re: stand in wedding rings?

  • With my first pregnancy, I got a set of pretty convincing rings for about $20 at Kohl's.

  • I would just get a plain silver band, anything made out of fake metal makes my skin get stains so I wouldn't bother would super fakes.
  • With my first, I stopped wearing my rings in the 3rd trimester and said to heck with all of those people judging me about whether or not I'm married and pregnant.  I did wear my rings on a chain around my neck so that they were with me.  My hands haven't started to swell too badly yet, but I will probably do the same thing again.

  • I have a simple band that I wear to work, it'll fit me until birth I hope. I miss my gorgeous wedding set, but sausage fingers won't allow them anymore lol.
  • I know when my fingers start swelling I will just wear it around my neck with a chain. I just don't see the point in spending money on a temporary ring.
  • I'm planning on just wearing mine around a necklace. Or even getting something like this.

I LOVE my rings too much to not wear them.

  • Berricle and Overstock sell some surprisingly good fakes, as long as you stay away from huge stones.

  • Yup in the same boat. Need to get a simple band from kohls or something. Super swollen
  • I got one at Claire's ;) super classy, right? But it worked and actually was more blingy than my usual ring so that was kinda fun!
  • So far, my rings fit great.  I have actually lost weight this time so it hasn't been too bad.  With past pregnancies, I got a small solitary CZ ring at a local retailer for cheap and wore that for most of pregnancy.  I bet you could get a cheap white gold, silver or gold band at a jewelry store for pretty cheap too.

  • Overstock does sell some good stuff but with my last I just wore my ring on a chain.
  • Got mine at Walmart :) painted them with clear nail polish to keep if from turning my finger green.

I've been wearing my rings on a chain for a while now. I woke up one hot humid morning & almost couldn't take them off & kinda panicked. I miss wearing them ( I could actually wear the band as it is smaller ) but I figure I'll wait until everything normalizes, hopefully.
  • I really haven't gained any weight and I know plenty of people that had no issue with their wedding rings during pregnancy, I'm hoping to be one of those lucky people! If I'm not though I'll be buying a simple necklace to hold my rings.

THIS!! I think this is well worth the $$ compared to going and hunting for another ring. Your still showcasing your actual ring.

My cousin borrowed one of my grandmothers rings while she was pregnant with her first son (Grandma wears one size larger than her). So she ended up wearing the engagement ring my Papa had gotten for my Grandma. When people noticed that it wasnt the ring her husband had bought her, she told them she wasnt able to wear her own at the time, but she was able to wear a family ring, & that it just added an extra memory to her pregnancy. When she got pregnant with her second, she went and borrowed the ring again. My Grandma nearly cried, since in a way it was involving our Papa, who passed when all of us girls were still young.

When they did the Maternity & Newborn pictures, they made sure to get the ring in the pictures.

So maybe if you have someone close to you that doesnt wear their rings, or has a large jewelry box, see if they wouldnt mind allowing you to borrow one of theirs. My cousin asked specifically for that ring, but maybe something has a memory you dont know about. & it'd be a great way to honor a family member.

  • I'm pretty happy with my convincing fake set from Avon.
  • I have a James Avery ring I wear on a different finger that's a half size bigger. Last pregnancy, my wedding rings stopped fitting towards the end so I just wore the James Avery on that finger. So, I recommend getting a nice ring you'd like to wear on a larger finger after pregnancy. Maybe something pretty with a turquoise stone? That's the December birth stone.

  • I used a ring I already have that normally fits my other larger fingers. It's a purple topaz and obviously not a wedding ring or even an engagement ring but I still feel better wearing it. If you have any rings that used to fit your larger fingers it's something to consider. If not, the zales outlet stores and zales outlet online usually have some pretty nice and real rings for under $100.
  • So and I are thinking about getting wedding tattoos, because he has not been able to find a wedding ring that he likes. A white band inked into our fingers. hahaha So far I only have trouble getting my ring off after I've been outside for a while or when I first wake up in the morning.

  • The place where we purchased our wedding rings did resizing for free. You might want to check with whomever you went through for your wedding rings if you can. Otherwise, MissTaken rings should be available for very reasonable prices as they look real but are made of glass. I feel for you though :) I waited so long to see about mine that I have a scar around my ring finger. I'll never pass for single again with or without the ring. Lol!
  • @bostonbride319 where did you go? Did you find any of these suggestions useful? I was wondering what you considered to be "a ton" of money???

Maybe we could give you more specific examples if you would give us a price point and direction in which you want to go?
  • Thanks for checking back in! Everyone left so many great suggestions, you're right it probably makes sense to clarify the money piece. Ideally I'm looking to stay no more than 50.

I've checked out kohls, target and nordstrom rack but didn't find anything I liked. I'm going to check a few more before I go the online route, I'd like to see it in person.

The next thing I was thinking was investing a little more (like going up 500-1000) and get two nice micropave bands that I can size down after baby is born and wear with my set (one for each baby). Decisions decisions
  • I purchased a sterling silver band from jcpenny for about $40. It's thin and simple. It will do until I can wear wedding rings again. Good luck!
  • Depending on when in December your due, birth stone ring of baby might be a cute idea and a momento to have for after the baby is born, they cheaper and you usually can get a real stone for those for a lot less. Also added bonus to pass down to the baby, I know my brother's wife has my moms wedding set as her's both me and my sister OK'ed that she passed them to him since they wouldn't fit either of us, and we love her dearly. I get the anniversary band from 25 years, and big sister is getting the necklace from 30 years because no way she's fit in any of my moms rings. I'm due the begging so early that it could go either way or I would. I know for my official engagement ring SO is getting a birth stone and diamond ring to signify our daughter as well as us.
  • Try choxi.com. (Formerly nomorerack). I've bought several nice rings for next to nothing from there :)

Do you live in Boston? If so, I would recommend going to the jewelers building downtown (Provence St.)
