Infertility

Waiting for 5d transfer, worried about prog/estrogen.

I am on day 1 of waiting for my 5dt. I started my progesterone 3xd and estrace 2xd. Is this common? I am just worried about these meds and side effects. Has anyone had problems with them?

Re: Waiting for 5d transfer, worried about prog/estrogen.

  • Completely common. Pretty much every cycle includes progesterone. Estrace I think depends on your baseline and your RE.

Every body is different, but I can tell you that the only med that was ever really hard for me to tolerate was the progesterone. Awful. And *when* you get pregnant they'll want you on it for almost the full first trimester. I had nausea, fatigue, weight gain, irritability, the entire scenario. But again, every body is different and the reason for the progesterone is important (to maintain uterine lining).

  • What kind of progesterone are you on? I've been on crinone 2x a day for 13 days now and the only thing I've had is irritability and sore breasts. I'm also on estrogen 1x daily and have noticed nothing from that. It's important to be on it so it's one of those things that even if we hate taking it, your body can't sustain an early pregnancy without the right levels.

I am on endometrin (100mg) vaginal suppositories 3 times a day. Estrace 2mg 2x day. I have been super bloated, constipated, sore breast, and still a lot of fatigue. I blame it al on progesterone. Hopefully I won't have to be on it for a long time.
  • I've never taken progesterone suppositories buy I have taken it orally and it only caused me random bouts of dizziness. I took Estrace vaginally and that one really did cause irritability and mood swings. Oh, and don't forget the lovely blue discharge. Your protocol sounds like what my doctor prescribes for his IVF patients.

  • I'm on progesterone suppositories, 2 morning and 2 evening. Yellow discharge from the capsule...awesome... Also on two Estradiol patches changed every 3 days. The progesterone has me bloated, gassy, constipated and tired. I'm cramping too which I attribute to the progesterone. It could be the patches though, symptoms also include stomach issues. The patches have me all out of it. I read a side effect was problems with speech and thought, wow really? Well, yeah, it's true. Not extreme, just find myself fumbling my words. Fun Fun Fun.

  • Actual quote from my nurse today, "I mean, there's no such thing as progesterone without fatigue and some crazy." :)

I love her. But keep some humor about it like she did, I think is good advice. Extra hormones are never, ever fun (unless you're estrogen priming).

  • That dosage is perfectly normal and fine, those meds are what you would be making in your natural cycle too so it's nothing to worry about.

  • Thanks ladies. I am feeling much more comfortable with taking the hormones now. I just feel like a walking pharmacy. I never take meds. So going from nothing to my hormones, aspirin, abx from ER, n vitamin, I am constantly sticking some medication in me. But that's ok. Work towards the goal!! :) :x :x
