I had a ham sandwich from the hospital after DD1. Best tasting food ever. BUT, I'm hoping for a Louisiana sirloin with fries, salad with balsamic vinegar, 15 dinner rolls, chipotle bbq chicken tenders, and a tub of chipotle bbq sauce on the side from O'Charleys. Who cares if it's a $40 meal for one person. Baby has crowded out my stomach and I can't wait to reclaim that territory!!
I'll order whatever I'm hungry for at the time! my step-mom works in the hospital kitchen, so we sometimes eat there if our appointment is around a meal time. I also went there often for breakfast back in high school. They have awesome food!
Sushi!!! And brownie batter. Its torture to make brownies and not be able to lick the bowl right now. So when we get home my brother is making brownies and I will probably lick the bowl and spoon spotless
I just ate hospital food and I was so hungry that it seemed like the most amazing thing I had ever tasted. I don't remember what it was, but I still think about it sometimes!
I want a sub sandwich, untoasted, complete with pickles, onions, tomatoes and lots of fresh cut deli meat! To drink, I'd LOVE a margarita! That will have to wait though. But I do have my best friend bringing me two meals, one each day I'm in the hospital, from my favorite restaurants I haven't been able to eat at for 30 weeks! I'd send DH, but he refuses to leave my side when I'm in the hospital (it's cute, but can be slightly annoying too). Can't wait for a Dino's sub with lemonade and a sub from Tin Cup with blueberry tea!! Mmmmm!!
I didn't want to eat after my first and my midwives made me eat some protein. I had a homebirth so one of them cooked me eggs. Lol. She was really sweet. And i had cucumbers in vinegar and olive oil. Curious to see if I'm hungry after this one. Right now a sub sounds delish but I don't eat any grains so making sub rolls is tricky and I doubt I'll have some hanging around conveniently before I deliver.
I want Charm City Burgers (best burgers of my life and that's saying a lot because DH is a chef) but it's 45 minutes away. He's wiling go to drive that far, but I don't want to be a spoiled brat lol I just want a burger and pumpkin beer!
@LLynde5, you're not allowed to have a cheat meal at all? I'm in the same boat, and I honestly don't mind having to watch my diet and test for 6 weeks, but once I deliver a healthy baby, I'm going to cheat on this diet at least for one meal!
I just started this journey so maybe by then I won't be nervous to cheat:)
I hear ya. I found out on Thursday that I failed my glucose test. I didn't have anything but carbs in the house till Friday and then I basically put myself on the Atkins diet . . . Over the weekend I was at my IL's house and every time I ate any carbs, I was like, "oh man I hope I'm not hurting my baby." My doctor said its really ok, and looking at the sample menu they gave me yesterday I was like, "woah I can eat carbs?!" It's more that we need to keep our blood sugar levels stable and within normal range than having to keep a super-strict diet. Not to say eat whatever you want whenever. But I'm pretty sure in a couple months, that one post-delivery cheat meal will be Ok. And the six additional weeks of monitoring, if I understand correctly, is to make sure that we don't develop Type 2 Diabetes. The risks to baby go away once the baby is out, but sometimes our bodies need a little time to adjust back to normal.
I had to go on BP meds after DS was born because my pre-e didn't automatically go away. I think it's the same idea with GD . . .
So feel free to dream about that post-delivery meal!
That's the way I understood it too!! I was spoke with the dietitian today and I can not believe how many card are required throughout the day! However, I don't think my dream of a peanut buster parfait with brownie will happen...mostly because I don't think I could convince my husband or parents to buy me one (they are super worried about this whole deal). But maybe I could bribe a nurse!!
Food in general will make me happy. DH and I don't do anything special for after birth. We stick with hospital food. Luckily they make a great salmon Caesar salad, and awesome carrot cake. I'm definitely looking forward to those. We were also advised that the pumpkin cookies are divine. I now consider it a mission to find them.
A bagel with cream cheese and lox with capers and red onion. I have already put my family on high alert that someone WILL be getting this for me post-birth.
I would really love a pumpkin beer, too. I do normally like beer, but for some reason have been craving it immensely during pregnancy. Like, rip-someone's-head-off craving.
@violetandrose I think we have been separated at birth! That's my meal PLUS a huge ice cold diet coke!!! I gave up diet coke after 1st tri. And I miss it SO SO SO much.
After my first I was starving!!!!! I had planned out what I wanted but I delivered at 2 am so my options were limited. This time I would love a large gyro spread from Niko Nikos, this awesome Greek place in Houston. What's your dream meal after you deliver?
OK logistical question here...who goes and gets the food? My husband I don't think will want to leave my and our new little boy (can you blame him?)... do I send my parents? I feel rude doing that too, since they'll want to be with the baby too!
I feel like a diva requesting something IDK. I mean...I know what I want (I think I commented earlier, burger and shake) but I feel bad about ordering others to go get it!
@kim1228 I'm having either my mom or his mom pick it up. I know my husband won't want to leave us and I really don't want him too. My mom feels that's her roll to help out and fetch things. She did after my first as well. My mom is awesome really!
A VENTI pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks and the biggest sub sandwich I could possibly have with tons of turkey and pepperoni, unheated with all the toppings ~O) <:-P
I'm packing snacks in the hospital bag not sure what yet...I also plan on having DHs mom/dad/sisters whoever comes first bring us a meal of choice! My family is out of town but his has already said they would bring us whatever we need. Perfect!
As for first night out...a pint of real beer and a glass of wine are definitely on the menu! I'm not having many food cravings anymore..
My hospital is in a college town so there are so many late night places to choose from. If it is late at night I will just send someone for the greasiest bag of food they can find. If I give birth during the day it will definitely be my favorite meal from the Thai restaurant we love. I just can't wait to have this baby!
Lots of good ideas here! I planning on going the Italian sandwhich route as my husband is Italian and my in-laws have been visiting for the past couple of months and every time they bring out the salami, prosciutto and mortadella it makes my mouth water
I'm thinking of an incentive plan for people coming to see the baby.
After delivery--- You bring me a dozen cookies from a local bakery: 15 minutes uninterrupted baby holding time A Dairy Queen ice cream cake: 20 minutes holding baby A pizza from my favorite pizza place: 30 minutes holding baby All three of these things: you can just have the baby
I'm also adding to mine...chocolate chip pumpkin bread warmed up or cold from the fridge. I can have it while prego of course, but I love it so much I know I'll be craving it then too!
I actually want some now...is it in poor form to start baking pumpkin-y things before Labor Day?!
