So my blood tests came back and as suspected my TSH levels are slightly too high, signifying minor hypothyroidism. Apparently this is common among women in their 40's, and can increase the risk of miscarriage, so RE prescribed Synthroid to get that level back in the safe range before we try an IUI. Is anyone else here on this drug, or another drug for hypothyroidism?
I have been on synthroid for five or more years now I think Currently I am 100mcg but I started off on just 50mcg. Basically my thyroid just kept sucking more and more over the years. So glad your doctor caught it as it can really make a difference. They also increase your dosage in the first trimester as well because the baby's thyroid isn't developed yet so it needs your thyroid hormone. I don't have any side effects from the med except I feel better!
@1983Lindsey2 - Oh, that's great! The nurse at my RE's office said that it tends to make people feel better in general, with little to no side effects. But it's been years since I've been on any sort of medication other than advil and occasional antibiotics, and I'm always a little nervous about taking anything. Your experience with synthroid is very encouraging, so thank you!!! Also good to know that I may need to increase dosage in first tri... now it won't be a surprise if that's what happens. Thanks again!
Wow! No advice but I'm glad they found out what was going on with your body! It sucks waiting but you are right, it's best that your body be in the best shape possible!

Hello! I have been on Synthroid for the past 6 years. It was right before I got married-- I was tired a lot and gaining weight and also always felt cold-- so, it turned out to be hypothroidism. I started on 50mcg and now I am at 75, but I feel fine with no side effects. The only issue is that you are likely on it for the rest of your life, but it is just a simple pill in the morning. I use a day of the week pill box so I don't forget-- but (knock wood!!!) when you are pregnant (knock wood again!!!) it is especially important to make sure you take it every morning and they will constantly check your levels because they can change a lot with pregnancy. Good luck!!! I think it is great that they figured this out as this will be key to getting your body where it needs to be to make great things happen. All the best!
@GK2009 - Thanks for the info! She's starting me on 25mcg. I'm hoping that will do the trick and I can do my first IUI next cycle! ::fingers crossed:: If I have to up the dosage later, then so be it. I just want my TSH to get down to that magic number!
My body has been totally out of whack since having L. I went on levothyroxine (generic synthroid i think) about 2 years ago. I noticed a change rather quickly even though it took a few months to get the right dosage. I have never had ant negative side effects and without it would pretty much be falling asleep or just so lethargic with everything by mid afternoon.

I have been on synthroid for about 5 years. I have Hashimoto's which caused me to be hypothyroid. Except for immediately after my son was born when it caused hyperthyroidism for a short time. The thyroid can be wacky but I am glad you have found some answers. I have never had a problem with taking the synthroid. Like the other ladies said your levels will be checked often during a pregnancy. When I am not pregnant I get my levels checked about twice a year.
