My husbands stepmom is watching my 4 week old baby today while I am at professional development (I'm a teacher- and wanted to get my hours- I start maternity leave next week).
I ran over to her house on my lunch so I could cuddle my baby- who is usually breastfed. I pumped and sent bottles with him yesterday and today.
For almost an hour I listened to how 2-3 oz is not enough for him and he needs to be eating 4 because I'm starving him. She said she fed him and he just cried and cried so obviously he was still hungry.
Uhhh....ever heard of gas? Or fighting sleep? Not every cry is for food!! He is less than 8 lbs and gets fed 8 times in 24 hours. The oz equation says: birthweight x 2.5 / however many feedings.
Which would be 2.5. I am NOT starving my child!!!
Re: First MIL Rant
My MIL expected me to go to her house to meet extended family over the weekend which I planned on doing but I was up all night with LO cluster feeding and DH worked a double so I was on my own and could barely keep my eyes open, hasn't showered, etc. When I gave her plenty of notice, she gave me a hard time said "other people have newborns and I need to make time for other people to see him".
I told her to basically go pound sand, and on what planet was it ok for me to upset the baby, unlatch him, get behind the wheel while exhausted, and drive to her house while he screams only to latch on when I get there? The only person I need to make time for is the baby and I told her that.
She's very bossy at baseline (more with DH than me) and I usually ignore it because DH always addresses it but when it comes to my child, I will not bite my tongue. I just got heated all over again typing that, haha.
