Thought I'd share my experience - I have Celiac disease and due to the manufacturer + my doctor being unsure of one of the ingredients in 'the drink', they mentioned I could do the alternative for the GD testing. This alternative, they said, was available for anyone to try not just those with food allergies. My doctor informed me that an alternative to the glucola drink was to eat 28 jelly beans. Same directions as the drink - blood work must be done exactly 1 hour after finishing jelly beans, nothing to eat or drink after you eat them. I thought some people would like to know if you did not want to try the drink or were looking for other options

SPEAK with your doctor first!
edit: note this is for the 1 hour test. not sure if it's available for three hour as a possible alternative.
Re: glucose test alternative
Didn't we have a thread on jelly beans a while back, who knew we were preparing for the glucose test
Even though I may have say no to the jelly beans too lol
Edit for spelling

Tbh, the orange Glucola wasn't bad. It was cold, and I just chugged it down. Just tasted like flat orange soda. It didn't make me feel sick or anything.
It's 1 time. Maybe 2. It's not a big deal. Your baby is exposed to a lot worse.
That being said, I drank the glucola because quite frankly it isn't that big of a deal to drink it one to two times.
Also you are a vegetarian. Do you eat soy? Most soy is gmo and far worse than some of the ingredients in glucola. Just saying.

Considering we are all exposed to toxins in the air, I try to limit the toxins I put in my body. Again, personal choice. I'm not on here to argue/debate/convince you or anyone else. The cattiness is quite comical to me. Take care.
I showed no symptoms, and at 28 weeks my GD was just starting to kick in. Now I need insulin. Paying attention to sugar intake has NOTHING to do with developing GD. I now eat no processed or refined sugars on the GD diet, and still need the insulin to keep my morning blood glucose levels in the normal range. It's how your placental hormones affect insulin resistance. To deny a standard test when you clearly don't have a grasp of the complication's effects or causes is irresponsible. I would actually seriously question a medical professional that allows that test to be skipped. Uncontrolled/undiagnosed GD has FAR worse outcomes than drinking a sugary drink one time.
I hope for your sake your baby is ok. That is very irresponsible to say you show no symptoms so you're not getting tested.
Diabetes is not something that everyone can avoid by diet and exercise alone. Some women can, some can not which is why they test every woman for it. You are doing everything you can to avoid birth defects in your child, but I bet you had ultrasounds to make sure everything was fine. You do everything you can to avoid high blood pressure, but I'd bet you allow your blood pressure to be taken at each visit. You're eating healthy and taking your vitamins, but I would bet you allow the doctors to collect a urine sample at each visit. Preventative screening saves lives. Yours and your child's. Refusing preventative screening because you think you're doing all the right things for your baby is dangerously ignorant.
