If it's a boy we'll be doing a nautical theme and if it's a girl a Cinderella theme. Both strategically chosen because I will not need to re-paint the nursery which is currently a turquoise blue for DS's polka dot/alphabet theme. Edit to add: sorry for the pics. Mobile confused me

I can't believe I havnt opened this until now. The new babe, no matter if its a boy or a girl, will share a room with the youngest. His room was decorated in "monsters" since he was my Oct baby. However, we are in the process of changing it over Dr Seuss style. Pinterest has SO many ideas! If you can't tell, I like color.
Edit because I forgot to say I am LOVING the woodland themes!
If we have a boy, we want to do a dr seuss theme! Such fun colors.
I just put together a design inspiration board because I was having a hard time explaining what I wanted! I picked out some major pieces that I love (mostly white furniture and bedding with gold and silver accents) and then added some accessories to go with the general theme. I'm sure I'll end up adding more color, but I wanted the basics to be neutral and calm. I work at a zoo and I recently traveled to Europe (@9-12 weeks pregnant!) which was an awesome experience, so I kind of fused it together for a travel/safari theme.
@inomniaparatus - my brother put double sided tape around the edges of the crib to keep the cats out. After they got sticky paws a few times they quit trying.
I haven't started thinking about the nursery much yet, but I work with animals and live in Alaska so maybe something Alaska animal themed for either sex.
Ive changed my mind a few times but I think if its a girl, I will do a light sage green with a pink accent. Warm rustic color for the wood furniture. When I told me mom, she pointed out that is basically the same colors from my wedding. I guess I really like them. H wants to do a car theme if its a boy.
I couldn't find any good pics but I love yellow grey and white with elephants for a girls nursery. My husband really wants whales/ocean theme for a boy. Or we may make the twins big kid room kind of oceany themed!
I told H I want to do a whales/ocean theme for a boy or girl. I love whales and wanted to be a marine biologist when I was younger. In reality, though, I know myself and I'm not a "theme" person. We will just get stuff that is cute and that we need, and I'm sure it will fit together just fine.
I know you posted this a while ago but we are doing that theme for either gender, I love it! We're adding pink for a girl, red for a boy, and the base is navy blue
My phone won't let me attach a picture but I will when I get home! We already have it painted, the crib set up, all of the furniture except a book shelf, and watercolor whale paintings and of boats!

My mother just pointed out that I'm doing the same thing! Apparently I'm a huge fan of gray and navy...never knew!
We have "beach wood" tile floors in the bedrooms so we are going to do a beachy/nautical theme for a boy or girl and then just do pops of pink or navy with some other colors. It's something that can be changed slightly as the baby grows and made more mature without having to redo the whole room. I'm hoping to find out soon so we can start painting and picking stuff out.

@pbtoast I have all those pictures pinned too! Love the style!
Me too! I feel like not THAT many came up for boy nursery design so we probably all have a lot of the same ones pinned. We may all end up with similar nurseries. Ha!
@inomniaparatus f you have a Burlington coat factory near you go check out their baby section. I saw a cute crib there yesterday like the one you are eyeing from restoration hardware for about $200. A lot easier to stomach of your baby does chew on it.
Disney nerd here.. most of my big items for the nursery are hand me downs so i don't have much choice in those colors and themes.. however i am definitely debating a big wall mural for one side of the nursery. my first choices are this Tangled scene for a girl and the Lion King for a boy!
ETA.. now, to find an artist on the cheap lol"
Disney nerd here too! If we have a girl i'm so going to try and convince my husband to do an Alice in Wonderland theme!
So I was really excited about my pastel inspo for baby girl. But I saw this nursery (from Flip or Flops Tarek & Christina - love them!) and I am in love. The reclaimed wood wall is a kit on Etsy for $800 so if baby is a boy we may be DIY-ing it.
skschnake just be careful when you paint an old crib that the paint doesn't chip off! If the baby likes to chew on things they might chew on their crib and the paint could flake off in their mouth. I also thought about painting an old crib, and my mom reminded me to get a paint that won't chip!

@pbtoast@Jilmce19 I have those same pictures on Pinterest as well! Those animal prints in the first picture are my favorite! I already picked out the 4 that I'm going to get for baby's room! (All African animals because giraffes are my favorite. I work at a zoo so it bugs me when prints/toys have animals from different continents and I'm like "they would so not hang out together!!" Haha) Here's the link if anyone else saw these and loved them: https://www.theanimalprintshop.com
I finally finalized what I want to do for both. I posted my girl color palette earlier but I'm going to do pink and burlap. For a boy I'm doing old world nautical. I made a couple mobiles for both themes yesterday. It was actually so much fun I've decided to sell them in my etsy shop!
Ok so we don't have a super specific "theme" and we can't paint the walls where we are, so I'm looking for more general ideas for decorating. Here are some of the neat ones I've found. Also, the bedding we're planning on getting is in the tan/cream family (snickerdoodle by cocalo) and the decorations will add pops of color. Here are some of the things I've liked and may try to incorporate:
@kimbarbour08 check out removable wallpaper. I bought some from Target for my apartment. It was $30 a roll and didn't cover much but that might be something to keep in mind.
This is so fun! Loving reading about everyone's ideas. We're kind of silly weirdos, so my husband and I decided we're doing a cryptozoology themed nursery! (We're calling it a Land of Make Believe themed nursery, so as to make it sound less odd.) Anyway, it's just basically a bunch of made up creatures, like mermaids, unicorns, Bigfoot, the Abominable Snowman, the Loch Ness monster etc., but all in cute, kid friendly forms. I just think childhood is so magical it would be fun to grow up in a room full of make believe and silliness.

Thanks for the tip! I think I may get some contact paper and try making some homemade wall decals, I love painting so maybe this way I can still make up a mural for the baby's room without making the landlord angry
