I am trying to talk my husband into the name Gabriel for a boy. His main concern is that he might get made fun of by kids putting an emphasis to make it sound like Gay-briel. Or that the nickname Gabe would be turned into the word gay. I understand what he means but just wanted to get some other opinions on the name/nickname. Do you think it will pose a significant problem? Thanks in advance!
Re: Gabriel
FWIW, I had a coworker named Gabe years ago when I was waiting tables, and not once did I ever hear someone call him "Gay."

Had your son been born in the previous generation, I would understand your husbands trepidation. However, I am no longer hearing it as an insult except occasionally by the late teen/ early 20's crowd. Even then, it's becoming less heard among them.
I gave up the name Arthur because SO didn't want him to be called Art because it rhymes with fart. But I wasn't sold on it myself, so it wasn't a big deal. Don't give up a name you really love because of a possible nickname.
