The things people say when you have a baby...

Thought this would be entertaining/venting.

What dumb, mean, or downright outrageous things have people (strangers, friends, & family) said to you since you've actually had the baby or when you had a situation with the baby?

  • My 7 weeks DS looks just like my husband and 2 people have told me I "looked in DH face when I was making him!" That makes me so damn mad. What an ignorant comment.

I constantly get told how big my baby is. Usually it's in the form of, "wow, he's healthy!" Not telling me anything I don't know...I'm lugging him around!

I get the same thing - "Wow, she's a big girl!" Yes, yes she is. But she's beautiful, healthy and happy!

My personal favorite is "is he a good baby?" Um, he is a baby and he cries so if you mean good by quiet, then no. Why do we categorize "good" by quiet when it's their only form of communication?

Yes, My dad says something like this every day! (Am staying with them for a couple weeks). And one time made a comment about LO "minding". I know he's just trying to keep up the conversation with the baby which I appreciate, so I bite my tongue but seriously dad, we're not disciplining quite yet!
He also frequently likes to infer that LO is napping to much and going to be up all night. I have given up trying to explain that it doesn't work like that. And that 16 hours a day is a lot of sleep.

He settles her in her home as a happy mother of children, praise the Lord! (Psalms 113:9)
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understand, will guard your heart and mind in Jesus Christ (Philippians 4:7)

  • @amy4516 I get the same thing. I was at the pet store getting dog food and I had both kids with me. The cashier, a young girl, complimented DD and said how pretty she was. Then she looked at LO (who was 4 weeks at this point) in his car seat and said "he's not yours right?" I gave her a weird look and said "uh no, he's definitely mine" she then proceeded to tell me that I looked great for just having a baby 4 weeks ago which was nice but I just thought it rude to automatically assume he wasn't mine
