Honor vs Connor

My cousin who I'm very close with just had a baby girl on 7/22 and named her Honor. We were both TTC and I happened to get pregnant 3 months later. DH and I are struggling with names for our little boy and really like the name Connor. Does Connor sound too much like Honor? Is it too weird?

Thanks in advance :)

Re: Honor vs Connor

  • I had the same struggle. Our friends named their son Dace, and I was in love with the name Payce. My hubby and I did end up picking a different name, but it is 100% your choice. If you are in love with the name, I would still use it.

  • Too close for siblings, maybe first cousins with the same last name but not any farther IMO. Connor is a semi popular name that has been around forever so I see no issue if he has a relative names Honor

  • I don't think it's weird at all!  Nice name :)
  • When I saw the title of the thread, I thought you were debating between the two for yourself, and my first thought was, "Those are two totally different naming directions." I realize they sound a lot alike, but I think their commonality stops there. I'd keep Connor on your list if I were in your position!

  • No, that's fine. Like a PP said, if they were siblings it'd be different but this is fine.

  • I think you are more than fine!! Conner is a great name.
  • You are good to go in my book! Plus I think it will be cute having an Honor and Conner in the family.

  • I like Conner ! But honor ? Hmm
  • I think it's fine! Just if they're ever in the same room at the same time and you holler for one, the other one might respond instead. No big deal. :)
  • Our pick is Connor, too. Just use it. It's cute :)
  • Not weird at all. If you love it, use the name! :)
  • I say go for it! We're naming our son Greyson, and he has a 1.5yr old cousin named Mason - same last name. BD actually thought it was pretty cute that they rhyme: "Greyson and Mason, best of friends!" :)

  • The only thing that would bother me is if they had the same last name and would be in the same class in school. Honestly though, even if that were the case, if I loved the name, I would still use it :)
  • Hate to be a party pooper but I think it's too close.
It starts to get confusing when people who are close to each other have very similar sounding names.

  • I don't think the similarity will be a big deal, if they were siblings I would find it a bit strange but this seems fine. You could also bring it up with your cousin to see what she thinks, but I don't see the rhyming as enough reason not to use a name you love.
  • Thanks for the feedback! I think we're going to keep it on our list for now :)

We're naming our boy Connor as well, so I love it. Like a pp said, our DS is named Grayson and a close friend had a Mason 3 months later and it's not weird at all. My step brother also just named his son Mason. Those are similar sounding, but totally different names. I say go for it!

  • I'm naming my little girl Harley. My sister's baby is Harper. My mom already gets them confused haha. But I don't really care. It took forever for dh and I to agree on a girl name so thats what we're sticking to. Pick whatever name you love and don't worry about anything else. :)
