Ive been reminiscing about some books that I read all the time as a kid and decided to find them on etsy or online. Just curious who else has books they hope to find! Mine are the disney learn to play books! Loveddd them!
Berenstain Bears! Luckily the libeary has quite a collection of them so I won't have to try too hard to track them down. Eta I spelled "library" wrong but it makes a nice pun so I'm leaving it that way.
I loved Little Critter books and Dr Suess. I started collecting early in pregnancy with DS- he's almost 3. I went to a bunch of yard sales and would stop at an awesome good will. He has about 40 Critters and 60 or so Dr Suesses.
I counted his collecting when I moved a year ago and he has >600 books. I *may* have lost my mind.
Some of his/my favorites are: the entire collection of Sandra Boynton, all of the Llama llama series, Eric Carl, goodnight goodnight construction site, if you give a mouse a cookie (and all of the spin offs), Pete the Cat series, the little blue truck, the Biscuit series, the wheels on the bus, that's not my "..." Series- he loved the bunny and snowman ones.
I also bought a ton of classics. I researched several list of top children's books, and books every kid should have, etc. It became a hobby of mine to collect. I have a box of books for each holiday. It's fun to pull them out and read them in anticipation of the holiday.
He knew his alphabet lower and uppercase and can recognize lots of words. I think that's because we read all of the time. I make it fun and let him pick them out and read as much as he wants. I've memorized countless books. He gets on kicks and we read the same book 5 or 6x in a row.
Sorry for the rant. I get excited about books. :-B
The Eric Carle museum is pretty close to where I live, so I'm excited to take LO there for story time and all of their events when he's old enough. Does anyone else remember Maxi the Taxi Dog books? I can't wait to read to the little guy!
Katie the Kitten was my favorite as a toddler, my Mom can still recite the whole thing! It's out of print now but DH found a mint copy a few years ago and suprised me!
Aside from that I loved the Boxcar Children and Nancy Drew.
I have an ongoing list of books I loved that I want to get for my children. One of them was Guess How Much I Love You. We gave it to ds in his Easter basket this year and I still can't make it through without tearing up.
Hilarious! I was just online searching for books last night and trying to figure out when I could raid my folks house for the good ones (they have kept sooo many things from when we were young). I've already bought the Peter rabbit collection and the dr Seuss collection but some of my absolute faves are Enid Blyton: the Enchanted wood, the folk of the faraway tree, the wishing chair and the wishing chair again. Hairy McLairy, Wombat Stew, golden books would be good too if I come across them. gosh so many!! I also want to find a beautifully illustrated 'children's bible' from my parents place... Can't wait to go searching. I love books too!! Also Can't wait to read before bed with my children. So much fun ahead!!
The Little Critter books were my absolute favorite growing up. My parents kept a lot of the ones I had and gave them to me when DS was born. Now that he's almost 3, Little Critter is one of his favorites too and I always get super excited whenever he picks one as the book he wants to read before bed!
Scoot Doo mystery series were the bomb and the only way my mom could get me to read. I was part of a book club and every month they would send you a new "mystery to solve" and it came with clues and a Scooby stuffed animal, a Mystery Machine, and of course a magnifying glass that could decode special clues. It was awesome.
Hmmm, if I did I don't remember it. Agree that Corduroy is also a must-have. The Velveteen Rabbit was just so sad. Great thread @cali1710! I'm getting so many ideas for LO's library.

I thought it would be good! I want to have some of the classics that myself and DH grew up with. But these posts have helped me remember many I forgot about! Same with videos. Not that Im going to stick them infront of the tv but for a movie here and there.
Amelia Bedilia. I thought she was so silly. Also, love little critters and I think it was called the rainbow fish. I just remember the cover was a fish with shiny/sparkly scales.
I don't know if I'll be able to find them anywhere other than amazon, but did anyone else ever read The Magic School Bus? They also made it into a tv show.
Love this thread! I was a voracious reader as a kid, so I have tons of books that my (saintly) mother kept all these years. So, basically our little girl will be inheriting my whole kiddo book collection. I am most excited for her to read everything Road Dahl when she's older, and of course, Harry Potter, but my random kid book I loved that no one else seems to have heard of is one called Mouse Tales. It's just a little series of stories about mice living in this town but I just adored the illustrations and I hope that one is in good enough condition to pass down.
So many awesome ideas in this thread! Gonna add some to my list that aren't in my collection!
I just found Dr. Suess' Oh The Places You'll Go while I was cleaning out my stuff from the soon to be nursery! My husband gave it to me when I graduated university and it's now the first item on the kids' bookshelf.
I loved Mercer Mayer books and books by Rosemary Wells. My current issue is the fact I teach kindergarten and so it is hard to keep from buying books. Thankfully I have a good used book store right by my house that has children's books for cheap.
YES!!!!! I loved this book. I can still hear my mom's voice saying "but NOOOOOO elephants"!!!!
We're these books part of a series? I had a whole bunch have and loved them. Of course I can't remember all the titles. My mom threw some away years ago when she cleaned out the basement but I got to save my favourites. I need to go see them again!
ETA: I was really mad at her for throwing away books. I don't remember if I made her take them out and give them away.
@ChipMonster Im not sure if my mom still has them or not I'm going to find out! Im not sure if they were a series but there was a series that the same author did called "the clown arounds" also ones I loves. My fav was get well, clown arounds! Im not sure if you live around york region but I actually found a clown around book in a salvation army (great place for kids books, 99 cents!) I couldn't believe it!
Ahh I love this post!!!! Our theme for the nursery is Dr Seuess' ABCs so I want a collection of Dr Seuess books. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, there's so many!
