Car Seats

Not sure if this is all car seats but I figured I would post two things...

1. I just remembered I have to change the tilt on the carseat at 3 months. Look at the side of your base and there should be a color/what the color should look like and when you need to change it!
2. Make sure to notice when your baby needs their straps put on the higher level. My daughter is apparently tall for her age and all the sudden she was hating the car seat....i put her in it a week ago and sure enough it was to tight on her shoulders...so I moved them up a level and now she is happy! (it is still safe and snug! Don't do it unless they are still safe!)

Re: Car Seats

  • Thanks for the reminder. I noticed last week that we need to tilt our base at 3 months.

Just be sure not to move the shoulder straps too soon! DH moved them a couple of weeks ago and I made him move them back. They should be at shoulder height or just below, not above!

I just moved our shoulder straps for my 14 lb baby!!! Does anyone know if the chicco key fit needs a tilt adjustment? I couldn't find anything mentioned in the manual but it looks ok still as the bubble is still between the lines on the level.

I have the key fit as well and don't remember anything about changing the tilt
  • I need to check. I don't think you NEED to change the tilt, but you can.

  • Mine actually says it on the base. So check there and if not then maybe not?

Mine does as well. It's a Graco.
  • Sounds like Gracos do it but Chiccos don't... DH and I both read the manual for our Key fit and had a police officer go over proper installation... changing tilt never came up.
  • I just checked my manual for the Graco. It says 0+ months for the light blue. It says 3+ months for light blue and dark blue.
I interpret that as you don't HAVE to change it, but you can for comfort of baby or adult in front of them. It's not necessary.

  • I just checked my manual and noticed it says "up to 30 inches" & my son is already 26 inches long.....
  • Any ideas how to do it? I read my manual but it was pretty vague and I want to make sure I do it correctly! Do you turn both front and back dials or just one?
  • There is a great Facebook group called car seats for the littles- it's run by car seat techs and they will answer all your questions! I've learned so much about car seat safety after joining the group. Once you join the group ask if someone will add you to the closed group as well- you can post pictures of your install, seat, and child strapped in and they can tell you if it's correct or not.
  • I know, I am happy I bought a bigger convertible car seat on sale in early May...she's going to hit 28 inches (for my car seat) loooong before the weight limit.

What one did you get? I was checking some out last night online but there are so many I don't know where to start!
  • So, what is the next car seat called that one buys? any good ones that people know of? I fear we will reach our 32 inch limit quicker than 35 pounds

The next seat is convertible. I've done a ton of research and am leaning towards a britax click tight. There are 3 types - advocate, marathon and boulevard but i haven't investigated those to make a decision yet

Just be careful. I have a Britax BSafe now & love it other than feeling like the buckle at the crotch is too short. I read reviews for the Britax convertible seats and every single review said the same thing, that the buckle at the crotch is too short (for both marathon & boulevard seats). We have a long baby & I think we'll have to go with a different brand for the next seat because of this issue with the buckle.

Thanks! I've also read that they an be tough for long babies- that's why we haven't bought anything yet. Still waiting to see how big he is when the time comes. I strongly recommend shelling out money for a good car seat if possible.

We had a less expensive infant seat and replaced it with a better one after researching more and using it for a couple of weeks.

A Safety First Alpha Omega convertible.  Walmart had a good sale on them in early May, so I used my shower gift cards for it.  It looks comfy!  And, I like that this will be it as it goes right to the booster seat stage.

We have the Britax Marathon for my older son.  He started using it when he turned 1, and is still using it now that he's 4.  He was a long baby, and is a tall kid, and we've never had any issues with the buckle.

My daughter is long also. We got
The Boulevard at around 1 years old (sooner I think but can't remember) and she's now 3 and still using it. I really love it. The click tight thing is dumb though because it always clicks way before it's actually tight enough so I never ever relied on that. It does however have a bit more head protection than the marathon.
