I am 39 weeks and I want her out already. I've went walking, eat spicy food, take warm baths and nothing. I've been having small contractions every 2 hours. I'm about to take a tablespoon of castor oil and see if this can start my labor.
Don't take castor oil! Not only will it be unpleasant for you (unless you enjoy being dehydrated and having diarrhea) it will put your baby at an elevated risk for passing meconium or going into distress. Don't be selfish. If you must do something try nipple stimulation...
Don't use castor oil! It increases the chances of the baby passing meconium in the uterus.
I didn't take castor oil, but my baby ended up passing stool before she was born. Her placenta was stained green and she had to be taken away from me to have her throat and nasal passages cleaned out. I didn't get to hold my baby for almost an hour after she was born because she had inhaled the meconium. This started a chain reaction of us having a harder time breastfeeding because she was very tired by the time I got to hold her. Thankfully, we are finally getting the hang of it now that we are about 6 days out.
Mine couldn't be prevented, but you sure as hell don't want to do something that could potentially cause this to happen.
Babies aren't due until 40 weeks, and even then, many arrive later, that is why they say up to 42 weeks. We all want to be done at this point, but after 9 months another week or two won't kill us to wait.
It was believed to be safe for a long time. My grandmother was taught to give her newborn gravy to help him gain weight. Obviously we know you shouldn't do that now.
It is widely recognized that it is in fact NOT safe to do. Safety isn't defined by a sample size of "your family", it is determined by hard science, observing data from the total population of impatient mamas past and present.
Im 40wks4d...and have walked and what not as well. Even this late in the game I would never consider castor oil. There have been many threads discussing the dangers in it. Your baby isnt ready and others are dealing with a lot more at 36 and 37 weeks just trying to make it as long as you have, dont be selfish.
Why are u trying to control my decision and discussion? I've been doing research for days in all different websites and it shows it safe. I've read a mom to be drank so much of it and she has issues. I'm not trying to drink a whole bottle of it.

Then why are you asking us? Seriously. Stop going back and forth on an Internet forum where we clearly don't advise of this. If you want to drink castor oil, despite the recent negative research, because you're so impatient.....
Then don't post your opinions on a public forum and expect people not to disagree with you ehen you are talking about safety concerns. Baby aside it will make you have diarrhea and dehydrate you which isn't healthy for your own body. That stress on your body will cause stress to your child. Not to mention it doesn't always work. Your baby isn't ready and you need to just wait.

So you really just posted on a board that has repeatedly aired the dangers of castor oil induction, and expected us to give you different advice or none at all? For your baby's sake I hope nothing goes wrong. Good luck. X_X

Then DO WHAT YOU WANT AND DONT POST ABOUT IT. Like I said im 40wks4d. Im uncomfortable, baby is so low my legs hit my belly when I walk. Theres another mom at 38wks with twins right now, I cant imagine being her. We have several other overdue mothers. Countless other mothers are at home on bedrest begging baby to stay in. We are all just hanging in there and supporting each other, but youll get no sympathy here when your LO still has plenty of time and you are trying to force it early.
If you are comfortable doing it then do it. The decision is yours. Just know that when you post things in this site you are opening yourself up to others' feedback and you may not always like it.
I'm past due and willing to try almost anything to get him out. Almost. Castor oil is disgusting and not worth the damage that can be done. I'd rather not put my baby at risk after spending 40+ weeks avoiding certain foods, activities and habits. People are unbelievable.
I'm right there with you. My EDD is Tuesday and I'd rather not go overdue. At the same time I know my baby isn't done cooking yet. I'm just trying to drink lots of water, sleep and binge watch netflix so when LO does decide it's time I won't be exhausted and dehydrated. Also, I told DH that strong foot rubs induce labor.
I was 41 weeks when my water broke with my first.. Castor oil never even crossed my mind. Especially when my doctor told me not to! I'm almost 39 weeks, live in hot, humid 100+ degree Florida right now, and still wouldn't consider castor oil even if I am beyond over being pregnant. My doctor warned me again about Castor oil at my last appointment (even if I never had considered it. Gross).
Baby will come when baby comes.. Don't try to force it. Unless you enjoy having the shits and having hemmorhoids from having the shits, then by all means have at it.
Thank u. At least someone is nice on here. I've done everything and its not working. Foot rubs, warm baths, long walks, caffeine, back rubs, etc. I had a false alarm on Thursday. It can be any day.
Because your not even due yet. Give your baby time. If this is your first which I am guessing it is most first time moms average 9 days overdue. Don't rush it. I have seen many 39 week babies forced out but unnessary inductions go to NICU due to stress. I am 37w3d with my second, working full time as a L&D RN for 12 hour shifts. I am lucky to get a lunch break. I have been contracting since 35 weeks have a sore back and pelvis and I will not try any intervention until at least 41 weeks.

Why bother posting if you get offended so easily and think that we are all a bunch of meanies for telling you that it is dangerous for your baby (something your Dr should tell you) and for reminding you that 39 weeks is not quite to your due date yet. We are all in the same boat. We are all sleeping like crap. We are all achey and tired. We are all sick of peeing every 2 minutes. We are all sick of heartburn. We are all sick of not having lung space and getting winded walking up the stairs. We get it. But what was the point of your post if you don't want to hear opinions? No one was rude - we all told you that it has been shown more recently that it is not safe and there are a lot of risk factors with it. If you want to disregard the safety and health of your baby, that unfortunately is your choice, but I would still consult with my Dr first.

I got a little rude with my next post after she kept trying to defend castor oil...but I just cant help it anymore. I hate these posts! I thought we had gotten past the hump of all these a week or so ago!!!!
I guess to me it's like this- I've taken care of this baby for 9mo. Why would I EVER considering doing ANYTHING that could harm her when I'm SO CLOSE to her arrival? It's just not worth it.
I'd never forgive myself if I was the one that PURPOSELY harmed her. The risks far outweigh the benefits.
Call your dr if you are considering castor oil. Please. Maybe you will believe them when they tell you its not safe. Baby will come when baby is ready.
Ps. Not everything you read on the internet is true.
