For ladies that know your progesterone #s

I a bit of bleeding and cramping on Tuesday and Weds. Went in on Tuesday for a very early u/s at 5 weeks pregnant. Dr. saw a sac measuring 5 weeks 1 day (which he said he what he should be seeing). My progesterone was 18.9 and he said I didn't need a supplement. Just wondering what your numbers were/are for the ladies who know. Thanks!

Re: For ladies that know your progesterone #s

  • 18.9 is very good numer. I was put on oral progesterone supplements until 13 weeks due to a progesterone of 10. 2 weeks later my dosage was upped because my progesterone dropped to 9.5. My progesterone never got above 12 even on the supplement.

  • Mine was 6.5 and I had to beg my dr for progesterone supplements. I have been bleeding quite a bit since my bfp and I'm sure it's due to the low progesterone. My number was similar for my first pregnancy and I was on endometrin until I hit 12 weeks.
  • Mine was 13.1 and I have been on suppositories. I have read that the suppositories don't necessarily get absorbed into bloodstream because they go right to where they are needed. I'm still worried the number is too low but my Dr. is not concerned.
  • Mine was 14 during my last pregnancy so I was put on 200 mg 3 times a day ( vaginally) . I'm hoping to not have to do that again with one but I'll do whatever it takes. I should have my lab results back on Monday for this pregnancy . Fingers crossed ! [-O<
  • I was on it last time (was with a RE) but not this time. My levels were at 16 at 13DPO but my OB didn't seem worried.

  • My first blood draw was 9.5 I was put on oral supplements. After one dose mine went to 34.6! I will continue taking them for possibly the whole pregnancy. I mc in March and my OB is guessing from low progesterone.
  • I have been on progesterone during my luteal phase for several cycles. I had a miscarriage in Dec and my numbers were very low. Now I will stay on it through the first trimester. My first draws have been 27-28. My Dr is very happy with these numbers.
  • I am 6 weeks and my progesterone level was 7.5. My doctor has put me on progesterone suppositories. They believe that my light bleeding a couple days before my blood test was due to my progesterone being low so I was glad they put me on it.
  • @lexgirl82 what dosage are you on? I am on 100mg suppository once a day, but I've been worried it's not enough...
  • At 4 weeks mine measured at 6.5 from this past Wednesday as well so they rechecked it again this past Friday.  He told me this morning that my hormones increased by 80% so he isn't worried.  I'm going in for an ultrasound this Friday and we will go from there.

  • My first level was 12.22 but dropped to 7 only 2 days later. In on oral 200mg daily.
  • My progesterone level at 5w2d is 19.2 and the nurse seemed very pleased with that!

  • I am not sure I am good reference cause I've had a very weird pregnancy so far, but I am 5w6d today and my progesterone has been 60-66 for the past week and a half or so. At first I was on Endometrin 3 times a day (I had IVF) but it's not supposed to majorly alter serum progesterone levels… But now I'm not on supplements anymore and level was 60 today.

My doctor told me today they want to see levels above 50, but remember I had IVF and this is a fertility clinic, so they probably have higher thresholds for progesterone in this scenario.

Yeah, the protocol for IVF is different than natural pregnancy. They like the numbers much higher.

It's your betas (hCG ) you want to double, don't expect your progesterone to double. (Just don't want you to panic if they don't
    :D )

  • Another IVF here and my prog was 33 on Monday.

  • Mine are probably high due to a high doseage of Clomid, but at 4 weeks, 5 days, mine was 40+.
  • never had mine checked as my doctor said its hard to monitor as your progesterone fluctuates all day long. I'm on Crinone once nightly because of my repeated losses though. Should only be until about 10-12 weeks.

  • They put me on prometrium 200mg (orally). I asked my doctor why orally instead of vaginally, she said that research has proven better absorption. I have read otherwise, now I am questioning everything.
  • The vaginal suppository has a "uterine first pass" effect, meaning it does what it has to do at the level of the uterus before it gets absorbed into the blood stream (thus ir does not increase blood progesterone levels significantly). As far as I'm concerned all types of progesterone supplementation are similarly efficacious.
  • At 5w5d my progesterone was 7.5. I had a previous mc and that may be why. I just took my first dose of progesterone last night...200mg vaginaly once a day. Hopefully this is the help I need :)
  • My progesterone was low at my first blood draw.  At my second, doc told me they didn't measure it a second time but he went ahead and put me on the suppositories just be on the safe side.

  • @luckeyMonkeyBBX -- sounds like my first pregnancy. I don't see the Dr. for another month but had blood drawn today only because my progesterone was low with DS.

  • My progesterone was super low to begin with and I've heard stories about people taking it after ovulation or after confirmed pregnancy so I asked my dr. He said it voodoo science/ no proof of correlation that progesterone actually helps anyone. He said progesterone fluctuates throughout the day too. So I went to another dr at another practice cause I was unhappy and guess what? She said the same thing. She even said the only way to get an accurate reading on progesterone was a biopsy, but that's unlikely for anyone. So before I found out I was pregnant I went in for my day 21 blood reading and I was at 12.9 dr was happy with that cause month prior it was only 4.9. Still scary though

@ahulet.... i totally disagree that progesterone supplementation is voodoo science! I had a miscarriage with very low progesterone. After the mc my luteal phase was 10 days and my ovulation date was cycle day 17-18. My doctor has run multiple tests throughout my cycle showing that my progesterone levels increase with supplements used 3 days after confirming ovulation. I started them in March and my luteal phase increased and my ovulation days returned to normal. In fact i am pregnant now because my ovulation day returned to cycle day 14. I will contine them through the first trimester. You're right that progesterone levels fluctuate throughout the day and cycle, that is why a good dr monitors their patients regularly... but I have to disagree with your doctor's comments about voodoo science, no woman should be discouraged to use progesterone to increase their levels. My doctor and I discussed several studies and based on her many years of experience she determined it was proven beneficial for her patients. I am glad I have them!

Thanks for these thoughts! My "good" progesterone numbers dropped some at my f/u appt so I've been on supplements since Thursday and guess what, no more spotting. Not sure if that's due to the progesterone supplements or just natural causes, but I'm thankful for the progesterone. (Even though it has definitely amplified my pregnancy symptoms!!).

  • I am 6w4d and just had blood work yesterday. My HCG is good (19,355) but my progesterone is low (12.5) and it needs to be at least 20. Just started prometrium 100 mg twice a day vaginally. Praying for my little bean to be safe and healthy and that the side effects don't make my pregnancy symptoms any worse. I'm already having fatigue and morning sickness...but it's worth it to have a healthy pregnancy. Trying not to worry too much. Been searching for success stories from women who have had similar levels as me.

My count was 12.8 and the doctor put me on prometrium 200mg orally. It's been working so far!! I felt the same as you did when I found out about my low levels. Don't worry sweets
  • This has been a very helpful thread to read through. My p levels cam in at 7.9 and I'm waiting to hear back from the dr.
  • Mine were 18 with hcg 75 exactly at 4 weeks which was Tuesday. Now I'm going in tomorrow to see. I go to an RE as well, haven't had an ultrasound yet... When did everyone get their first Ultrasounds?

We have a family getaway next weekend and I'm nervous to be in the car for 4 hours and trying not to act su specious around family and friends since we haven't shared the news with anyone yet. Just praying all goes well and I don't end up in middle of no where hospital with a loss.
  • I had my drawn at about four weeks and it was 27.2 without supplementation. My doctor told me that she didn't see a reason to draw it again unless I started bleeding, at which point she would draw it and then give me Progesterone intramuscularly. Thankfully they keep it in her office, and she has prevented miscarriages this way.
  • I am 6.5 weeks. My levels were slowly rising every three days (18, 21, 26). But then they dropped down to 15 yesterday. Any ideas what that is about? We also saw the little bean yesterday with a beating heart, so I'm not too worried, just nervous about what the drop is about.

At 13dpo my Progesterone was 12.5. My doctor did not seemed concerned. I am having repeat blood work Monday at 18dpo.
  • I am taking an oral supplement daily since they think previous mc was due to low progesterone. But I've noticed it fluctuates depending on the time of day I am tested. Mornings-34-36 afternoon-25-27
