Will you be using green/Eco-friendly products on your baby?

watching "the Human experiment" on Netflix and I am extremely shocked at all the harmful chemicals we are exposed of without our knowledge. It's even worse for baby products!

This made me wonder are any of the new mommies or STM plan on using green products? If so what are your favorite brands/natural products?

We use Dr Bronner castile soap. For lotion we have California baby. Diaper ointment is Bordeaux butt paste (worked best for my daughter).

  • When my son was first born, I heard all kinds of negative stuff about Johnson&Johnson products and freaked out a bit. I used Babyganics hair and body wash on him, and I actually really liked it so I plan to get the same kind for DD.

I will be washing DD's laundry in Seventh Generation free & clear detergent (bought that brand because I had a rebate on it, free and clear to be gentle on her skin). I usually use Gain, but I don't want to use anything scented on a newborn. I'm thinking I will wash DS's laundry with hers, because he's got a rash that I think might have to do with our detergent.

As for diapers and wipes - I can't really afford the Eco-friendly organic ones and I was unimpressed with 7th Generation's wipes when I tried them.

If you're really into natural products and don't mind spending a bit more, I know of an Etsy seller who makes diaper rash cream and nipple balm and stuff and it's all organic and natural. Check out Momma Bean Stalk on Etsy if you're interested.

  • We're going to try to use organic baby products whenever possible, and we will be cloth diapering. I have yet to switch over to all-natural cleaning products in the house, but I will likely start doing that as well.
  • Any mom interested in finding out the ingredients on any cosmetic product should check out https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ (full disclosure: it's fascinating, informative, and addictive bc you will search for EVERYTHING!!!)

I use babyganics lotion, shea moisture soap lotion and hair products, coconut oil or dr bonners castile soap. I also used Burts Bees diaper cream and multi-purpose ointment i/o vaseline.

PS they (EWG) have a database for household items as well. They are a great resource and were my go-to for all of my neurosis lol

  • Check out wellnessmama.com for recipes for homemade diaper wipes (though I just made the liquid & put it in a squirt bottle to use with a washcloth, since I didn't want to use paper towels as wipes, etc.), and other products for baby using natural ingredients.  She also recommends Dr. Bronner's.  I made the diaper spray, baby oil, and use the castile soap for her hair/skin.  She's been free of all skin irritation so far.

For detergent, I just bought Kirkland scent/dye free at Costco.
  • We have babyganics and Tom's of Maine for soaps, honest co for diapers, wipes, creams and a few cleaning products. They are a bit pricey but the convenience of auto shipments was wonderful with my first and we will use again with this little guy!
  • Bambo diapers, Water Wipes, Honest Co. diaper cream, organic mattress, Method free and clear detergent. Using Amazon Subscribe and Save where possible.
  • Babyganics bubble bath, sunscreen and diapers. Sometimes seventh gen or earths best diapers too (whatever's on sale). Seventh generation liquid dishwasher soap, trader joes free and clear laundry detergent, toms toothpaste, and method all purpose cleaner. Coconut oil for rashes, dry skin, cradle cap, pretty much all things skin related. I'm sure there's more but these are the things I feel like I'm always buying.
  • I have a 16 month old dd, this is what I use and have liked and it's what I will use on this baby as well.
I use Babo botanicals shampoo/wash, conditioner, lotion and sunscreen.
    LOVE Burts bees diaper cream.
Earths best diapers and wipes are my favorite.
I use dreft on the baby clothes because I like the smell it leaves.
  • The only product I'm wary of really is sunscreen. I am very, very pale and burn super easily. I wanted to get a safer sunscreen but after reading a ton of reviews, it sounded like the organic/all-natural ones just don't work that well. I've been using the regular, loaded-with-chemicals kind. I'm sure baby girl will have pale skin like her parents, so I'm not really sure what to do... Any experience with organic sunscreen on a very burnable ginger?
  • I believe a lot of health problems are linked to the harmful things in our environment & food, body products, cleaning products and just everything. I think for example that a lot infertility problems are probably caused by toxins and things like synthetic estrogens, plastics, preservatives, insecticides, pesticides, colorants, and many more. I believe some people are just more sensitive to these things than others. I have been extremely careful about what I have consumed while pregnant. No antibiotics in animal products, no added hormones, no gmo's... pretty much if I can't pronounce an ingredient or don't know what it is, I won't consume it at all. I use natural soaps & oils & body's products. I was like this before I became pregnant but before I would eat unnatural & non organic foods if I felt like it. I wouldn't dare to now though & I won't when breast feeding my daughter & I will continue in this way when raising her. No harsh cleaning products or body products. Pretty much I'm removing all toxins & chemicals that I can control from her life. I don't want her to have fertility problems like I did, and if she does, I will know I did what I believed was best to my knowledge to try to avoid things I believe contribute to infertility & other health problems. This is just what I believe. I don't think my way of life is for everyone nor do I think I'm 100% correct or better. This is just what I feel is right for me. I have to specify that because I don't ever want anyone to think I am frowning upon their own personal choices or making judgements about what type of parent they are if they don't do what I do.

  • We are cloth diapering, so I'm making my own laundry detergent that's safe for his clothes and his diapers. Also making my own diaper cream. Probably doing 7th generation wipes and using California baby wash. I'll most likely be making his lotion myself as well. (His father and I have horrible skin, and it's actually pretty cheap to make your own stuff.)
  • I love ewg.org for helping me detox my life of unnecessary chemicals and toxins. I'm using Thinkbaby products for baby (sunscreen, body wash and lotion) I use vinegar and lemon for most cleaning as well as seventh generation. Also use Thinksport sunscreen for myself, dr bonners Castile soap and I try to use as much natural, organic, safe products as possible. Everyone should checkout ewg.org when they are ready to face the truth about chemicals and are ready to detox there life of unnecessary products
  • @leighann1 I'm pretty pasty and my nephew is very very very pale.

Babyganics has worked as well as any other sunscreen I've used and my sister uses it on my nephew too. I think the key is, like all sunscreens, to keep reapplying and use a large amount. The recommended amount for the SPF on the bottle is ridiculous for adults (like almost a golf ball for your whole body).
  • I'm a member of melaleuca and I plan on using their natural shampoos, body wash and lotions. They also have natural cleaning supplies I am going to buy.
  • We love Seventh Generation (diapers, paper products), Tom's (toothpaste), Dr Bronner (soap), Honest Co (shampoo, conditioner).  We cloth diaper and wash with Rockin' Green detergent.

  • We will be using Babyganics, 7th Generation, and any NON GMO Certified soaps for our baby. I'm super excited that mainstream stores are starting to carry paraben free and baby products made without dyes. Nice to not have to go to our co-op all of the time.
