August 2015 Moms

failed induction :(

Went in Friday morning at 7am to be induced. They hooked me up to pitocin for 8 hours, tried a VERY painful Foley balloon, and cervadil for the full twelve hours. I never moved past 2cm. They gave me the option of breaking my water or going home for a few days and trying to give him more time to come naturally. I chose to leave to avoid a c section and not force him out when he isn't ready. I'm nervous he just won't come on his own and I'll end up with a c section in a few days anyway. They won't let me go past Thursday, because he is already big and overcooked as it is. Anyone else ever gone in to be induced and ended up going home? If so, did your babies make come naturally? Super frustrated, sore, and sleep deprived. Was in labor for 24 hours with little to no sleep or food, trying to find some positives. Everybody in our families seems to think I'm nuts and this is so strange, I should have just forced him with a cesarean. Where as I want to do what's best if he isn't ready. :(

Re: failed induction :(

  • Huge hugs! Hope he decides to come soon.

  • I so feel for you. I don't have experience to offer but can tell you I would have gone home too. Hang in there Momma! Tnp's!
  • Sorry, no experience either but I hope baby comes soon! I wouldn't have jumped at a csection either. Good luck!

  • I have had no experience with a failed induction, but I think you made a good decision providing your baby isn't showing any signs of distress. Why force baby out before it is ready. Hoping you go into labor naturally. Good luck!!
  • I don't have any experience to add but just wanted to say I'm sorry it didn't work out. You should feel good about your decision to let your baby come naturally and not put your body or his through any more unnecessary stress. I know that if I was in that situation, I would be getting pressure from all around to do whatever it took to get things going. I'm sure it wasn't easy for you to trust your instincts and do what you think is best for baby-- I applaud you. Hopefully your baby will come on his own SOON!
  • My MIL had a failed induction and had her second son a few days afterward, naturally. I'd try to rest, eat well and walk as much as you can. Do you have a birth ball? Good luck!
  • So sorry momma!! FX he comes naturally...I would have done the exact same thing if they gave me an option. If theyre giving you options then I would say they at least think theres a chance it could happen on its own as well. Good luck!!
  • Ugh that sounds so frustrating! Hope LO comes soon for you!
  • no experience but my mom had a failed induction, a few days later I was born naturally!!! hope baby comes soon for u!
  • Walk, walk and walk some more! FX baby comes soon!

  • I had a failed induction a week before Christmas with my daughter. It was so crappy to leave and pack up the room without bringing the baby home. Hang in there!! I ended up being in labor a second time for 39 hrs and having a c section anyway, but I took comfort in knowing that I did everything in my power to avoid it. I knew if I would've let the doc break my water and it would've resulted in c section I would've blamed myself. You did the right thing and it was much easier for me to progress the second time. My stubborn dd just got stuck between 8-10. Good luck - not too much longer!!
  • That sounds awful. Stay strong and good luck!
  • Hugs, that could not have been fun.  But you made a good decision if your LO was not ready to come.  Best of luck in the coming days!

  • No experience or advice. I hope baby comes soon without any intervention.
  • Thanks everyone! It was just so draining and disappointing to go through all that with no baby! But I definitely feel good about my choice to mot force him, and after some food and a nap I can say a big ol' F you to the people pushing me for a c section. It's just so frustrating to have people telling you what to do with your body and baby. I may be a FTM, but I know we'll enough that if they are giving me the option to not and say he isn't in any danger for now it's best to leave him be. Why can't people mind their own business!
  • How frustrating...No experience but wishing you all the best over the next few days and that baby decides to make an appearance before too long. Get lots of rest and try to stay relaxed and positive!
  • Oh mama that is so frustrating im sorry it didn't work the first time. You are very lucky they are giving you the option to leave and give it a few days. I have had 2 failed inductions that led to c/s :( they wouldn't let me leave (first time I had pre-e didn't get past 3.5cm, and this baby I didn't make it past 5cm and since I had a previous c/s and past 40 weeks they wouldn't let me leave). I had to do the foley bulb this time too and holy crap that thing hurt it was so awful :( huge hugs and my fingers are crossed for you this baby comes any day now on his own terms. Anything you can do to avoid a c/s do it. I have been lucky to have 2 easy c/s recoveries but surgery is not fun and unless you need to do it I wouldn't suggest it.

  • T&P's that baby comes on his own soon!!!
  • So sorry you had to go through that and had to deal with people not being supportive on top of it. Thoughts and prayers your LO decides to come soon
  • I am scared of inductions for this reason. Baby will come when baby is ready. Everything happens for a reason. I hope that things progress forntounnaturally and that you have a stress free labor and delivery.
