I don't know anything :((

I've been having regular contractions since last night. Last night I could still breath/talk through them so I thought if I went to sleep they would eventually peter out. This morning I woke up still having them. They are much less painful but deff there and consistent. I keep going back and forth between waking up hubby to go get checked out at L&D or just waiting it out. I don't know what's real or not!!!!! Wah. Sorry for my early morning rant.

Re: I don't know anything :((

  • I'm a FTM so personally if I was having regular contractions and I was in pain, I would personally go to labor and delivery or at least call them and ask. The worse they can do is send you home. Even though I'm a FTM, I have this big fear of letting contractions go on and not realizing they are contractions and giving birth at home. Not sure that it's possible but it's my crazy fear. Sorry I'm not a lot of help!

Please do! Just to be on the safe side! Best of luck!
  • Called they were literally the least helpful -_- but I get they can't really diagnose me over the phone. Whatever I'll just have a baby on the living room floor lol

They normally tell me to try to do something such as if I call for baby movement, they tell me you know the routine of laying down drinking water before I come in. They didn't offer any advice?
  • She basically just said its up to me if I want to come in and get monitored. Don't leave it up to me I don't know anything lol!
  • It's totally up to you but my midwife says no need to call/go to L&D unless contractions are 5min apart, my water breaks or no movement. With my first I had regular contractions for at least 12 or 16hrs before they got more intense (couldn't talk through them) and 5-7min apart. My hospital will monitor and check cervix but will send home if you aren't having contractions close enough together...
  • What about calling your doc? Mine are on call and want me to call about contractions, water breaking, whatever to help figure out how to proceed. I would not bother calling the hospital.

  • The hospital can literally do nothing over the phone. Big huge law suit if they do that. Call your on call doc or just go in. Worse case they send you home.

This. My rule of thumb though, if they aren't painful I would wait. However, if they're timeable (like you timed them for an hour and they are spot on) I would go in.

  • They petered out so no big deal ugh what a tease. I don't like calling my on call doc because the last couple times I've called they've seemed annoyed. I know I shoudlnt let them intimidate me but they do :-/
  • For sure dont let that intimidate you. Its what you are paying their office for. Dont ever ever ever hesitate to call, if they sound annoyed screw them, but more than likely they annoyance coming across on the phone could just be fatigue from a long night..just keep that in mind if you ever hesitate again!
  • I know some women have a higher pain tolerance and in cases didn't realize they were in labor until it was the very end. However I think that is extremely rare. I personally was in so much pain there was no questions whether it was the real deal or not. Personally if I had to think about calling or not sure if it was it I would hold off.

  • In my birthing class they told us to follow the 5-1-1 rule: when contractions are 5 minutes apart, lasting for about 1 minute each, and for 1 full hour go to the hospital. Trust me, when they are the "real deal" contractions, you will know. I know everyone says that and that doesn't help until you have felt the full force ones, but remember that everyone says that because it is true. Unfortunately they hurt like a bitch. You won't be able to (or want to) talk through them.
  • I would wait to go in until I KNEW it was the real deal. But I'm not a FTM and it's perfectly fine to go in and get checked if you are feeling unsure.
  • Thanks for the advice/support ladies :). I'm sure yall are right and I will know when it's the real deal. Just getting ants in my pants to meet LO
