Steroid injections to mature lungs

I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant with twin girls. One of my twins growth has slowed down compared to the other one, I had an ultrasound today where they sent me up to birthing suite to have the two steroid injections, one today and one tomorrow. Then back in for another ultrasound on Monday. My question is has anyone else had this and how long after the injections roughly did you give birth?? I know everyone's different but I'm just interested, thanks.

Re: Steroid injections to mature lungs

  • I had my set of injections on 6/29 and 6/30 and I'm now 36 weeks. My baby was measuring small(11th percentile) and is now in the 54th percentile. The shots are just a percaution. Some babies grow at different rates.

  • I had the steroid injections at 33 weeks when I was admitted in pre term labor for contractions. I'm now 34 and 3. My doctor has me on bed rest and is hoping to get me to 36 weeks at least before delivering but he said I could go into labor tomorrow or in a few weeks there's just no way of knowing. Safe delivery and good luck to you! We are almost there :-)
  • I believe the minimum ideal timing for the steroid shots is one shot, wait 24 hours, second shot, wait at least 24 hours before delivery. DS1 only got 1 steroid shot about 15 hours before he was born because they decided to do an emergency c section (he was 31w3d). He had some lung struggles after birth but is OK now.

    Same with me! I'm 34 + 2 right now.

  • I got my steroid shots at 28 weeks and I'm now 33 + 1 day
  • I had a round at the beginning of July and then about 2 weeks later. My baby boy was delivered today at 34 weeks due to preeclampsia. He is small but needs no assistance breathing! I'm convinced the steroids are why!
  • I got mine at 29+1 and 29+2 because of preterm premature rupture of membranes. LO was born at 30+4, no trouble breathing! Like @LaurenNewph said I think it made all the difference!

Just a word of warning, I started sweating and felt like I was on fire at the 24 hour mark after each. It was normal though they said.
  • I got mine today at 33 and 6/7 weeks. I was admitted to the hospital for bleeding (I have placenta previa) and was told it's likely I'll be here until baby's delivered. I'll get another steroid shot today. Hang in there!! I keep telling myself the same thing :)
  • I had them when I had a preterm labor scare with my daughter at about 32 weeks and then was put on bed rest for 5, returned to work at 37, and she came on her due date.

  • I had them with my son who is now 3 and came at 33 weeks. He came 3 days after the shots and had zero breathing issues. I'm now at 33 weeks 1 day with my second and had the shots last week just in case. Totally worth it for us!
  • I'm 33 weeks I had them at 29 weeks and we're totally fine.
  • I got the steroid shots at 24 weeks. I was having labor contractions....At 32 weeks I started dilating at a 3 so they gave me magnesium as another precaution. It was horrible. I am now 36 weeks and have been dilated at a 3 for 4 weeks.
  • I got mine at 33 weeks and I'm delivering on Monday and ill be 36+6. They want you to get at least to make it 24 hours after your second injection.
