Did anyone find out they were pregnant after a negative hpt?

Hi ladies!
I'm new here--if this isn't the place for this type of question, please politely just let me know. I was wondering if anyone here had several BFN home pregnancy tests and later found out they were actually pregnant via blood test and/or u/s? I'm just wondering just how common this is! Thank you and I wish you all the best with your newest additions!

Re: Did anyone find out they were pregnant after a negative hpt?

  • Are you asking about the accuracy of HPTs? (like you think you got a false neg?)
This all depends on how early people test. A lot of people that are actively TTC will test too soon and get a negative, but that's because there wasn't enough hCG in their system to turn a test.

Pink dye tests these days are accurate and sensitive. A negative test = not pregnant at this time.

  • Not with this pregnancy, but for my 1st ectopic pregnancy I had several negatives, I didn't get a faint positive until the day I was starting my period (because there was no baby in my ute) that was I believe 13DPO. I can't remember if I got a negative before a positve with my 3rd pregnancy (another ectopic)  and I didn't test at all until I was about a week later with my daughter, so that was positive right away.

  • Well, I ask because I'm now about 25 days late, have taken several tests (negative, however all but one had what i assume are evaparation lines about 30 min later) and will be having a blood/us tomorrow with the dr. I have been incredibly exhausted, urinating frequently, alot of extra discharge, have period-like cramps now and then, and get a little dizzy sometimes the last few weeks. I know logically, this is most likely caused by a skipped ovulation, I just can't shake the "feeling", you know? (We are not trying or anything, so I don't think it's wishful thinking) Just curious if it has happened.
  • I had negative tests from July 5th until July 14. BFP July 14. My period was supposed to start July 7th. Never showed but kept getting negative tests. Made me crazy but I'm now 7 weeks pg with my third.
  • Nope.  I knew when I ovulated because of temping, therefore knew when to test.

  • I frantically googled this all the time while TTC, and always got my hopes up.  Of course I would find a thread or two of people saying this had happened to them, but that is HIGHLY unlikely.  As long as you're testing at the right time, chances are pretty slim you would have a false positive.  If you're TTC, don't drive yourself crazy with stuff like this- just trust the tests. I wasted a fortune and most of my sanity retaking pregnancy tests.  I should've just trusted the test.

  • Here!!!!!

Hubby & I started "trying" July 10th and I was supposed to get my period beginning of this month. I had taken 3 pregnancy tests and all were negative. I went to get a blood test done, and found out 2 days ago that we are positive. Even when taking another home pregnancy test, the line is faint. The nurse said it's due to their being low HCG hormone since it's still so early.

  • Thanks for replies everyone, I went in for some blood work today and will know more Monday. I am not pregnant, but I'm glad I got some answers and can look forward to how it could be possible for us in the future if we so choose. I wish everyone good luck and lots of good vibes! Remember, please be positive and sensitive in your replies as everyone is on their own journey.

Can you please point out which replies were insensitive? We are not obligated to give false hope, that is much more cruel than being realistic. If you look to a community for advice and input, it's actually the newcomer's responsibility to learn the culture of the board.

    Good luck
