Babies Who Passed Meconium before Birth

My LO passed meconium in the uterus before she was born. My placenta was actually stained green with it because I guess she had passed it long before birth. She had to be taken to the nursery right after birth so they could suction it from her throat and nasal passages. She didn't pass her first stool after birth until about 48 hours later and required a suppository to be able to do it.

Just wondering how many mamas had the same happen with their LO. Any of them have any breathing or digestion problems after? Or have they been just fine and perfect? Mine seems to be doing just fine now!

    My first son had the exact same thing. He had absolutely no breathing issues. He was very sensitive to dairy and soy for the first couple months so I had to cut it out of my diet due to nursing. Other than that he has no health issues. He is now 2 years and 5 months old. I was able to add dairy and soy back into my diet when he was about 4 months old. He has no tummy issues anymore.

    DD passed meconium before she was born. NICU team was present for her birth but she had no trouble. She never left my side after birth. I don't remember how long before she pooped after birth.

    DS passed meconium. No issues! The NICU team was there when he was born and they didn't want him to cry so they could suction out things but he had no other issues and wasn't taken out of my room right away either.

    Happened with my DD. She never left my side, they just suctioned her right there, but my hospital also doesnt have a nursery. 6 years old now, never had a single issue after they suctioned her. I dont remember how long it took her to poop but I know they never gave her a suppository.

    Baby #2 is due

    Interesting. My meconium baby also had a dairy sensitivity!  No other issues.

    My first DD had a delay in stooling (they thought maybe she passed her meconium during birth)  she didn't poop for a week.  We ended up in NICU and after a scary few days (right before her lower GI scan) she finally pooped.  Good luck, I hope everything is okay!

    My daughter pooped as they were pulling her out of me during my c-section. She pooped a few hours later also. She didn't have any issues, but I don't think there was any aspiration.

    My homebirth baby pooped before coming out. It took her about 5 hours to regulate her breathing but it wasn't off the charts bad so I didn't take her in i monitored her. She was skin to skin with me until she self regulated. She needed a little oxygen when she first came out and we massaged her upper back to help break up any excess left in there. She's never had any issues.

    My son passed meconium in the womb and he never had any problems with breathing or digestion. Im not sure how long before being born that he did it, but that may have an influence on whether theres any problems caused by it. The only thing that happened is that after a little while he coughed more up and scared the shit out of me because I thought it was blood.
