Belly button piercings and pregnancy

Does it need to be removed? If not, will the hole stretch or possibly tear? I'm 19 weeks pregnant and still have mine in... Anyone else?

  • Im 19 1/2wks and I still have mine. I've been using a plastic/rubber one since around week 10 because medal and gold ones irritated my skin. I'm planning on getting the maternity ones once my growing baby(Girl!!) belly gets bigger. :)
  • I'm 22 and half weeks pregnant and have mine still in. I asked my doctor if he recommended me taking it out. And they said some people do and some people don't. It all depends on if keeping it in gets uncomfortable when your belly starts to grow bigger. But they did say if you keep it in the hole will eventually go back to normal after giving birth.
  • I took mine out at like 8 weeks because it was so darn itchy! I had it for about 4 years so hopefully it doesn't close. :(

Bodycandy.com sells cute pregnancy belly rings by the way!
  • I had my belly ring in through all 3 of my pregnancies. Mine didn't stretch at all but I did switch it to those long pregnancy rings in the third trimester. But I have seen some not so pretty belly holes. They can stretch and tear. It just depends on your skin. I took mine out when my third was a few months. I guess I got over it so I don't have one in my fourth pregnancy.
  • I still am wearing mine, I don't have enough of a bump at 21+4 weeks for it to matter yet. I was thinking I should probably order one of the pregnancy ones soon just in case I need it. I honestly don't think that the ring being in or out will probably change how much the hole stretches unless the ring no longer fits. But in college I lost my ring and had it out for 2-3 days before I had time to get a new one and the piercing people had to put in the replacement because it had shrunk (it was at least 1 year old at the point so I didn't expect it to close that fast!). Thanks for the link @AudriannaMaria!
  • @AudriannaMaria they used a "needle" type tool to thread my ring back in when my hole shrunk (it wasn't pointy at all), they screwed the ring to the end of the tool it took less than 10 seconds.
  • I'm 22 wks and 1 day and I switched my ring out for a pregnancy one about 3 weeks ago and it's a lot more comfortable for me. I'm gonna keep mine in as long as I can for my preference but it's funny. When I had it out for a couple of days my DH thought it was gross. He's never seen me without one in haha btw we have that type of humor with each other so didn't offend me.
  • I took my metal one out and replaced it with a flexible pregnancy ring but other than that I plan on keeping mine. I cant imagine not having it pierced anymore. Maybe when I'm older but for now I feel naked without it.
  • I just took mine out after finding out. Thought it was time for me to take it completely out and have it close up.

I took mine out around 20 weeks when my belly popped. The hole was getting so itchy and stretched, it was uncomfortable. My mom had one and kept it throughout her first 4 pregnancies and never had an issue. It can be done and as long as there aren't signs of infection or to isn't uncomfortable, then keep it.

Edited for typo because reading is hard.
  • I took mine out a few weeks ago because I was worried about it stretching my skin and my navel poking out. I have had it 13 years and the hole hasn't closed yet. If it's still open after I have the baby I'll wear one again. At first it was really weird to see my belly without jewelry, but now I'm used to it.
