Intro - thoughts on Clementine and a few others

Hi there, new to this board, but I've been on TB forever. DH and I have always had a super easy time with boy names and NEVER agree on girl names. Our son's name is Greyson, if that helps with our naming style, we had it picked out 5-6 years ago when we first started TTC. We found out we are having a girl this time and so it begins, the never-ending process of name picking.

Clementine has been near the top of our list for a while. I feel like you either love it or hate it. We were thinking "Clem" or "Clemmy" for short.

Our last name starts with a G, thinking the middle name would be Marie (family name).

Thoughts?

Might as well put it out there that our other name ideas are:
Quin
Astrid
Sage
Thistle <-- bonus points for thoughts on this name (on the fence)
Lilah
Lydia
Meryl

Clementine is fine, not a personal favorite of mine. Same with Astrid - just nms.

If you're using Quinn, spell it correctly

Thistle is ridiculous.

Everything else pretty good and I have a definite soft spot for Sage!!!

They all have a slight hipster flair, which is entirely OK with me. Clementine reminds me of Kate Winslet's character in Eternal Sunshine... Sage was my #1 girl name until we found out that Sprout is a boy. And I LOVE Thistle, and Thistle Marie sounds good to my ear. A more traditional middle name also gives them the option of using that professionally if they so desire. The only one on your list that doesn't seem to work to me is Meryl, but that's because I'm not a fan of alliterative names so it seems clunky with Marie as a MN to me.

Love Clementine. I used to work with an elderly lady with this name who had the nn Clem and I have adored it since. It's my favorite on your list.

Toss Quinn, Lydia and Lilah I just feel like they lack.

Thistle I can't really get behind.

I like Sage although in general I prefer it on a boy

Astrid is ok and I like Meryl.

I would suggest Basil to replace Thistle. It's a GP name of mine.

I like Clementine, she might hear "Oh my darling..." a lot but that's a minor thing. I wouldn't place a Clementine and Greyson as siblings, but I think it's a lot better then the names I would expect (The braylee's and Kinsley's and such) so, good job.

Clementine Marie is lovely.

Your other name options I like Astrid, Lydia and Meryl. Sage is enh, Thistle is terrible, Lilah is kinda boring with all the Leilas,Layla,Laila,Lyla, etc, and Quinn is masculine.

I like Clementine, Astrid and Sage... Although I like the other two names a little better in general, Sage seems more along the same line style-wise as Greyson. But maybe that isn't a big deal?

I quite like Clementine, we considered it for our own children. I just don't know how well it flows with Greyson.

What about Clover in place of Thistle?

I hate actual thistles so I just can't get behind that name. Why would you name your daughter after an ugly, prickly weed?

The rest are fine, not necessarily my style. With your son's name, I like Astrid or Clementine.

Thistle is the national flower of Scotland. We used them in our wedding, they actually are very pretty in use, and not just sprouting up in your backyard like weeds. I get that it is a weird name, just looking for something different

I like Clementine Marie. There's quite a few nn options there as well. I really dislike Thistle though. I think Sage is much better. I also like Quin and Lilah. I've never seen Quin spelled with one n before, that's interesting.

Clementine is lovely! From your list I also like Astrid and Lydia. Drop Quin(n), Sage, and Thistle. Lilah and Meryl are okay, but NMS.

I like the name Clementine, but really dislike the nn's Clem or worse Clemmy!
Lilah and Lydia are nice names. The others sound bad to me. I especially dislike Thistle, since it also makes me think of the prickly awful weeds.

I love clementine. It also reminds me of eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. I would call her the full name and not shorten it. It's a pretty name and better than the nicknames.

I love lilah. A name I would consider but hubby doesn't like it.

The rest of the names are not my style. I think thistle is a bit cruel to name a child.

Clementine is ok but kind of hokey. Lydia and Meryl are nms. Lila (in any of its spellings) is super popular in my area so while I like it, you may want to consider it's popularity.

The rest are meh, and Thistle is ridiculous. I cannot imagine calling a child, let alone an adult that. Glad you're taking it off the list.

Thanks ladies, this is helpful feedback.

Clementine seems to get a lot of praise online (I've seen it in other threads also). However, only one person IRL I've talked to actually seemed to like it. I wonder why that is?

Re: Quin(n) I wasn't focusing on the spelling, I would spell it the correct way, I'm not of fan of made-up spelling for style sake.

My daughters name is Clementine, so of course I like that. We hate all the nn options, so we just call her by her full name all the time.
I'm not sure that I like it with Greyson, but that only matters if you care about them "going together"
Astrid is very pretty too. I like different names, but Thistle may be too different for me.
