Baby wearing suggestions

Re: Baby wearing suggestions

  • I just bought a Tula and I'm stoked! I got it brand new from someone for less than retail and it's a pattern I wanted. I plan on getting a k'tan for the early months.

  • The best way to start, is just to dive right in. If you're of average stature, your "base" size wrap would be a size 6. It's a great size to learn on, and will allow you to do pretty much every carry as you become more comfortable and want to try more.

A rainbow wrap is great for beginners because the different colours edges make learning how to do passes and tighten easier. Once you have your wrap, hit up youtube and search babywearing a newborn.

My favourite carry for a newborn is the Front Wrap Cross Carry (FWCC).

  • @holocene thank you so much for these great resources! I will spend some time on youtube! I appreciate you taking the time to do that for me!

  • I had a ring sling for when DS was tiny but LOVE our Beco Gemini. Could not have survived infancy without it.
  • Ooo now I want a Sakura Bloom...

The reason ring slings sometimes aren't recommended for newborns is they can be unsafe if baby is positioned incorrectly. The babies chin should never touch their chest.
There are loads of ring slings that can be used, just practice and be aware of how baby is positioned.
I just got a k'tan. It's like a wrap but without the wrapping!!

I agree with others-BW can be addicting and overwhelming. So so some research and try out some different ones. The resale is great!

  • I have a Moby and a Mei Tai for when they are little and then I will move into the Ergo.

I'm not a fan of the ring sling.

  • FTM but I got some input a few months ago when Target had an awesome sale on the Ergo 360 - I bought one after hearing some good feed back on them!
  • I also had a friend that is no longer using her moby wrap, she is lending it to me to use in the beginning.  She absolutely swore by hers!
  • I have a baby k'tan from target. I used it with my last child. I absolutely loved it! I live I GA so it gets very hot, the fabric is great and it is so much easier than those other wraps. I also used it the entire first year. My back never hurt! I highly recommend k'tan. You can you tube it for a look!
  • I've been reading a ton. This is what Im thinking so far:

The Moby wrap just looks to big, material heavy and I feel like i would hate all that material tied around me.
The ring sling, looks nice and easy, but i wonder if the rings would bother me, and it just seems less secure.
The K'tan looks great, pretty simple to wear, and not such thick material. I think I might like that one
The Solly wrap, I like the look of this one. It looks light and breathable. I feel like it's a lot less material than the Moby.

  • I started out with a ring sling and then used a Tula when he was big enough. I didn't feel comfortable with him in the Tula even with an insert.
