New Nanna to DIL in ICU after CS Delivery

Hello -

Was on pins and needles since Sat morning when DIL was admitted for induction. Slow going labor. DIL opted for epidural. Just found out that after 4 hours of pushing, baby still had not descended so they switched to cs. Baby ok. DIL breast fed baby but began to bleed. hour later went into OR. They stopped bleeding without giving hysterectomy... but she is in ICU now. Thinking back on past few weeks, DIL did not ever have Braxton Hicks...the baby did not have a lot of movement either. Maybe DIL's uterus is not designed for delivery.

Why is she in the ICU and what could be causing the bleeding?

I'm so sorry for the ordeal that your family went through.

There are many reasons your DIL could have had post c-section bleeding, and without knowing her medical condition, I don't think anyone can answer that question for you. My best guess as to why she is in the ICU, is due to blood loss and the complications from her surgery. A c-section is major abdominal surgery, and she will have a long recovery.

As for the comments about her uterus, I really hope you keep them to yourself. When my daughter failed to descend, and I ended up in an emergency c-section, I felt like a complete failure as a woman/mother, and was devastated to miss so much time and memories with my newborn daughter due to the drugs and other complications. My guess is, your DIL is feeling the same. Please don't blame this on her, or her uterus. Braxton Hicks or movement is not a indication of her bodies ability to labor.
