Baby came!!! Nursing question

so we welcomed our princess on July 31 and was wondering. This little girl lovesssss her sleep. And after a good feeding she could not want more for hours.... I feel like I should wake her up but my mother says u shouldn't wake a sleeping baby. And even when I do wake her to feed she doesn't do it for long and just goes back to sleep. So it's almost just pointless. What are u guys experiencing?

Re: Baby came!!! Nursing question

  • To build milk supply at least get her latched and trying to nurse every 3 hours. Once your milk comes in and baby is confirmed to be growing you can let her sleep.

  • I wake him every 2-3 hrs per dr orders when he was born

This is exactly what our pediatrician said.

  • Mine said the same but to not let them go out 4 hours. But j tried to wake one of my twins today and she just wasn't having it. She was passed out and wouldn't get up.
  • Since my LO has been cluster feeding and was back up to his birthweight in a week, the midwife says to let him sleep!
  • My Drs said the same. Every 2-3 hours and 1 4-hour stint is okay each day. If you can't wake your baby up enough, try changing their diaper or if it doesn't need to be, take a wipe or a damp washcloth and wipe them down. This usually wakes her up enough for me to start her feeding.
  • I agree with pp. She is too young to go more than 3 hours without eating. They don't take in enough calories to last longer. As others have said you may need to change her diaper or wipe her face or something to wake her up enough to eat. My Pedi said no less than 7-8 feeding per 24 hours. We do one 4 hour stretch at night. I hate waking him up, but it is only for a month or two, then they will take in enough to sleep longer.
