Panoramic Testing

Hello moms!

Is anyone else doing the pano test? I am having mixed feelings. A co-worker of mine had it done to find out the gender of her baby early. It also tests for genetic disorders...nothing runs in our families and I'm not over the age of 35. I also requested it and I feel like my obgyn/nurses are kind of making me feel bad about it. Obviously I want to know that my baby is not at risk, but I think the real reason I want it is to know the gender early. Does this make me a bad person!???

Re: Panoramic Testing

  • I don't think you need to feel bad for having the test done, regardless of the reason. I had the verifi blood test done, mainly to know the sex and because we didn't want to wait until 20 weeks at the anatomy. It's a blood test and non-invasive. I'm only 31 and nothing runs on either side, but I'm also someone who wants to know as much info as possible. Definitely doesn't make you a bad person.

I tried searching and only saw random comments here and there!
  • They're all sort of lumped together since everyone gets different tests.

  • I had it, but because of my family history. Finding out the sex is just a bonus.. I'm excited but feel like waiting a few extra weeks until potentially finding out at the anatomy scan wouldn't kill me. The nurse at my OB said about 85% of patients there opted to do the panorama test, so I don't think it's weird that you did it just out of curiosity.

My advice is to wait. I had the panorama test because of a previous loss. I got a bad result and tested positive for a horrible and rare syndrome. My husband and I freaked out and had to talk about terrible things such as possible termination. I had to have a CVS (awful) done to confirm the panorama result and sure enough it was a false positive and thank god our baby is fine (which is all that matters). We had to deal with weeks of stressing out and thinking the worst and going through a painful procedure because of the panorama. My advice is skip the test. Wait a few weeks to find out gender - it will still be exciting! Good luck!
  • We had it done. And I recommend it to everyone! I was skeptical at first because no matter what the results said, I would still have the baby and love it unconditionally. What helped me make my decision was the fact that if the results came back high risk, my doctor would have immediately sent me to a high risk doctor to make sure the baby remains as healthy as possible. It also takes a huge weight off of your shoulders to know that your little peanut is happy and healthy! Hope this helped!
  • My doc dropped the ball on first tri screening. I called today to ask about the NT/Quad screen after verifying 100% coverage with my insurance.. and she won't be able to get me in until after I'm 14 wks. She is suggesting the Panorama test instead for accuracy and thoroughness since FIL is adopted and we don't have complete family history. It will cost us $100 out of pocket, but we will probably do it as it seems to be our only option now if we want any early genetic testing. I'm annoyed that she didn't discuss this with us at our last appointment so we still had time to choose the NT scan which would have been completely covered.

I got my nt scan done at one of the local hospitals (not at my ob office) and had several choices of where to get it done. Maybe you can still get in somewhere else?

My primary doc specializes in women's health and OB/GYN and i am using her as my OB. She is already sending me to the hospital for all ultrasounds since they don't do them in office, but I need a referral which she won't send unless it is paired with an office visit. I'm thinking of switching to a provider who is exclusively OB since I have also had billing issues with her office already (they're billing me the office visit copay vs prenatal which has no copay).
  • I had the scan and blood draw for this on Saturday, so I should get the results by mid next week. We opted to NOT find out the gender though as hard as that was!! lol! I don't think it's wrong of you to want to find out though. I am itching to know, but DH is dead set against finding out, so we don't.

We took the test because I am almost 35 and I just want reassurance. If I get a high risk result I will follow it through with an amnio or CVS despite the risk. Perhaps you should just think about whether you would follow through with further testing if you got a high risk result. If you wouldn't,maybe just wait a few weeks for the gender u/s. Or instead do those similar, cheaper tests that only test for the gender.

  • I did the harmony test, same as panorama but different company. Took seven days to get result. I did it because I was told how high the risk was for downs etc as I've just turned 40. That was in Dubai. I did the test at home in Ireland, the Irish doctor said based on what she was seeing they would never have recommended the test. It cost me over $500. I got a 1/10,000, same as s 20 year old. We found out the sex purely because it cost so bloody much and I wanted something to show for my money! If you are so eager to know the sex then do it otherwise I wouldn't waste your time if the doc says you are not likely to have anything wrong. I feel like the doc in Dubai had me worried for no reason
  • By the by if you search for harmony test lots of other posts come up for you to read
  • We had the Harmony test done - mainly because I am 35. It only cost us $130... And we found out we are having s boy! I would highly recommend if for nothing else piece of mind (and some early shopping)

  • I did the panoramic test with my son. All they do is take blood. We did it solely to find out gender. They say it is more accurate than an US at 18-20 wks. I will be doing it with this one also. My appt is for Tuesday. I am hoping to get gender results by Halloween!!!!
