I use a little bit of peroxide to bubble it out the clean it with a tip on the outside. If you try to clean with the q tip first you might make it worse.
Never put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear. (Trust the per, or get a second opinion if you really think her ears are clogged!) The wax will dry and fall out. You can gently remove it with a tissue once it has completely exited the ear canal.
Why would you come to the bump and ask if you should do something that an actual doctor said not to. Listen to your pediatrician!! If they thought it was a problem they would do something for it.
Why is she being bullied?? I've had similar thoughts... I don't know about you all but now that we've had our 2 month check up, I only see my ped once every two months... a lot can change in two months in the eyes of a FTM. Personally, when I asked about ear cleaning 3 weeks ago my ped said not to worry about it, but it has gotten worse since then so I'll be calling to check again. But I don't see anything wrong with coming on here and asking opinions of other moms. I've seen far worse questions asked.
I'm a first time mom too, that's not an excuse. And no one is being bullied. Yes, the bump is an excellent place to come to get encouragement and advice from other moms. But for those who have been around since the actual pregnancy would know, most of us don't like giving advice on a subject that is meant for a doctor or that is against a doctors advisement. You already asked a doctor, who would know better than someone on the bump. If you are still concerned, bring it up to the pediatrician again and if they still say no, maybe you should ask why not so there is clarification, because there is usually a good reason why they advise against something.
Hi @erinjason11, my LO is 11 weeks and I definitely notice her wax build up is starting to increase. What I do now is similar to what someone said above, wait 'till it dries and just wipe when it's on the outer areas of the ear. I'm sure if you gently try to get a little out too, it'd be fine. I asked my paediatrician TONS of questions at my 2 month appt, but missed this one haha! Glad it came up here cause I would have just gone ahead and cleaned gently (without pushing any in of course).

The issues is she pretty much said "my dr said to leave it alone but I want to do it any way" so you want to come here to get us to tell you to go ahead and do something your dr said not to? Your dr told you not to do it for a reason. If she would have just said "my kid has ear wax, what should I do?" I could respect that. Not looking for an out not to follow Drs advice. If you are questioning it call your dr for a follow up.
I'm confused. Are we not supposed to clean their ears? My little guys ears stunk so I went and got some of the children's q tips and have been using those. I don't push in, I just twirl it and a lot comes off
Peds dont always know best i get why you're asking, i once took dd to see a ped who gave us all the wrong advise and i found studies made by well known organisations that contridict what he said + i didn't feel comfortable following his advice.
However there are 2 peds that i trust and it's important to find one that you do. About the ears i would just wait till it dries out, they get flaky and move out on their own then you can pick them up with your fingers.
Is lo bothered by it or do you notice a hearing problem? If so you should see another ped who might transfer you to a specialist
I keep my finger nails filed smooth and short. Periodically, I use my fingers to scoop up any earwax that I can see. Pediatricians say "no" to be on the safe side- you shouldn't be digging in their ears, but it's a mothers instinct to clean up any goopy glop that we see on our little angels! I always take the "professionals" opinions with a grain of salt.
