I am curious on people's views of CIO. I don't want to start a huge argument but has anyone done CIO with other children? At what age did you sleep train and how long did it take to stick?
DH and I are talking about it. We wouldn't want to do CIO with DS until he was at least 5-6 months. But I've heard that these more "extreme" sleep training methods are the most effective in the shortest amount of time (2-3 days). Just curious on others views/experiences.
We did CIO for naps for our oldest when he was 7 months old. He learned to put himself to sleep at night by himself pretty early (by 3 months), but we were still holding him on our laps in his rocking chair until he fell asleep for naps and then putting him in his crib.
It was hard, but it worked. Really well. It took 4 naps of letting him CIO, and after that, he put himself to sleep for naps without a peep. And this was when he was still taking 3 naps a day, so it took less than 2 days to work.
It's not for everyone, I understand that, and I never would have done it before 6 months. DS never cried so hard that I thought he was in pain, it was more just a regular sad cry.
***edited to add that this is a response to @chambersbaby2015. Obviously.
We did CIO with our first and she did great with it. I started a bedtime routine by 3 months and would put her down asleep and then a little before 4 months I started putting her down as soon as she finished nursing so she was in her sleep coma and swaddled. Then gradually I started putting her down slightly awake and she cried for maybe 5 or 10 minutes but not hard at all. Just remember they are very quick to stick to habits so if you don't like what you are doing stop cause you will most likely have to do it for a long time!!

DH went out of town this week so DS has been at home with babysitters while I'm working (DH has been with him during the day for the past month). He has just started noticing when I leave and has been incredibly fussy for the babysitter and hardly napping at all. He's been overtired at night and after his initial 5-6 hour stretch, I can barely get him back to sleep at all... Anyone else have a LO who won't nap for anyone else? I'm exhausted and losing my mind
My first child was a terrible sleeper and still waking several times a night at 10 months old so we did CIO. Dr suggested it since he was at the age to be playing me to get what he wanted. Took a couple nights and he was a champ at sleeping all night on his own and for naps too. Always has laid straight down to sleep ever since. He's 3 now and still sleeps all night and happy to get in his bed.
Cio never worked for my first. She would not stop crying. We tried...in the end we just rocked her to sleep and as she got older layed beside her crib and now we still have to lay with her most nights until she falls asleep...I wish it would have worked but she would cry so hard she wouldn't breathe. In the end I just think they are only little once and one day we will wish they wanted and needed us. Enjoy it while you can
