Baby number 2??

Hey momma's!
Anyone having their 2nds of the same gender? What are you guys planning to get that you don't have already?? I'm getting new bottles and a double stroller...but I can't think of anything else I may need?

Re: Baby number 2??

  • When we had our second boy I replaced bottles, binks, and a few other things. Sadly my idea of them being able to wear a lot of the same clothes hasn't worked as perfectly as I thought although it's definitely helped. DS1 was 25 lbs at a year and at 2 1/2 DS2 is still only 25 lbs. but overall we have reused everything we can and replaced as needed.

  • We are having another girl and got new binkies and bottles. We need some new clothes but other then that we can use almost everything again!
  • We are having our third baby, second boy. Starting from scratch, as we were told it was impossible for me to get pregnant or carry to viability again. So we got rid of everything after DS. Thank goodness a lot of our friends had babies at the same times as our first two and this baby. We are all passing stuff around and shopping consignment sales together.
  • Needed new car seat because other one expired but have so much! Now to buy batteries and see if everything still works!!
  • We had to get a new infant car seat as ours expired, as well as some bottles/soothers, bottle brush, bottle drying rack, etc.  We also opted to get a bassinet this time as we just used the bassinet portion of the pack n play for DD1, but didn't like how that worked.  I think the only other thing we're going to need is some clothes b/c DD1 was born in the beginning of June, so all the newborn sized stuff we have, with the exception of a few sleepers, is very summery.
  • When DD2 was born, we got extra washcloths, towels, socks, bottles, basic onesies (to replace stained ones), and pacifiers.
  • Buying new binkies, bottle replacement parts (nipples and seal piece for the bottom) plus a few different types of bottles in case dd2 doesn't like the same ones dd1 did. Other than that planning on stocking up on creams/medicines/wipes/diapers. We were given a double stroller by friends. Oh and I am getting a few nursing bras. All I had with dd1 was the tank top which was fine but I thought the nursing bras might be nice this time around.
  • We're expecting our second girl and have a son between the two. We had to get a new car seat, and will get new nipples and pacifiers. We'll also get her new bedding for her crib. I've bought her a few special outfits but the rest will be hand me downs from her sister since their birthdays will only be about a week apart (hopefully!).

It feels very strange to not need to buy much.
  • We are and they will be about 2 years apart and born in a similar season so will hopefully be able to share all clothes.  The only thing I am definitely replacing are bottles, new swaddle blankets w/ Velcro, and pacis, plus stocking up on baby supplies (diapers, etc) and -things for myself (nursing pads, pumping supplies, etc).  I also want a double stroller.  I am sure I will need other things as we go, but I am not buying those upfront.  I had to do so many things to prepare for #1 and I haven't done a single thing yet for #2...I feel like I am missing something!

My biggest concern is figuring out the room situation.  My DS1 is happy as a clam in the nursery, in the crib, and I don't want to rock the boat.  I can keep DS2 downstairs with us for a few months but then I will have to figure it out.

Anyone planning on having their 2 kids (eventually) share a room?  This is our eventual plan but we haven't figured out the logistics of that or how the transition(s) will work...

We kept DD2 in our room for about 6 mos and then she moved in with big sis. By that time, she was sleeping through the night, and since they were both in daycare, they were used to sleeping while it wasn't completely silent, so if DD2 woke up, DD1 didn't stir.

Our boys share a room and have from early on.  Honestly it wasn't horrible or as nightmarish as I imagined.  DS1 woke up maybe once or twice in the beginning but then slept through any noise that DS2 made.  It actually helped establish a bedtime routine quite easily with DS2 because he just feel into DS1's.  Snack, bathtime, then went to bed together.  Once DS2 started sleeping through the night it went even smoother, they love having someone to go to "bed" with and they have a pretty steady bed at 8 and up between 6-7 routine now.

Is it weird that I am having a second of a different sex and I am only considering buying new bottles and a double stroller? And that's a big maybe on the bottles...

I acquired some clothing for seasons that are more appropriate for this one, but I really haven't thought about buying much else. I feel like as a STM, I'm missing something... I feel like I'm pretty much set. Maybe I'll hit panic mode in September when I realize how little I have?

LO3 is a girl, but our first 2 are boys.  We got VERY little for DS2...we needed some clothes here and there for seasonal differences, but beyond that, we basically reused everything.  Just replaced the nipples for his bottles.  It's a huge plus to having 2 of the same sex!

  • I have 4 boys and I bought almost nothing for the last 3. They each got a few new outfits (because every baby deserves SOMETHING new!) and #4 got a new car seat, but other than that, we were good. None of my kids have taken bottles, but I know I bought new pacifiers. I was actually kind of hoping #5 was a boy for the ease of it, but surprise, she's a girl!
  • Oh, and @krae771, we've had 3 boys in a room together. It wasn't terrible.
  • Thanks ladies!!! Yeah I was really excited that we would be able to reuse almost all of our stuff! I forgot about pacis, yes those are a definite replace...everything else is only about two and a half years old, so I think car seats are still good. Yeah it feels so weird that I'm not preparing more....
