I'm kinda the opposite, my OB was worried about my lack of weight gain. I lost around 7lbs in my first tri, then gained them back in 2nd. By 23 weeks I am now back to my pre preg weight. My OB just said to make sure I'm not dieting or watching what I eat too drastically. Um No. I eat everything! I'm not super worried. I was a size 12/14 pre preg and I think me not gaining a ton of weight is a good thing as long as the baby is growing fine, which he is. Also I gained almost 60lbs with my first and it was hard to get that off afterwards.
At the beginning I seemed to balloon up (could've been water retention) and then settle down over the past few months. I don't weigh myself at home so didn't have a clue or really think about how much weight I'd put on. At my 25 week midwife appointment last week I asked if she could weigh me and I'd put on 8lbs since she first weighed me at the beginning. I was pretty surprised, all those giant chocolate buttons I'd been inhaling, thought it would be more. There's time yet I suppose..
I was up 19 pounds at my 24 week appointment. I was not happy but my doctor to my surprise said your pregnant, don't beat yourself up over it, you're fine. That made me feel better and since we got back from vacation I've been eating better and working out.
You sound like me! I gained 19lbs total and am 24 weeks. I'm not swollen anywhere (but my belly and boobs) and have no idea where all this weight is going. My butt maybe? haven't looked back there lately. . My midwife sd she wasn't worried but I should be prepared to gain more than the 25-35 lbs total. I do yoga three times a week and walk everywhere as I live in a big city and don't have a car. I'm just going to chalk it up to those pesky hormones. Thanks for posting!
I feel like I'm ready to cry - I have my 24 wk appointment tomorrow and I'm currently up to +21 pre pregnancy weight. We just got back from vacation yesterday and I'm still not pooping regularly so I'm guessing there's some stuff that my body hasn't cleared out yet. But I'm worried about what my doctor will say at this appointment since this is +6 from my 20 week and I'm overweight as is.
Unfortunately I'm fairly certain I'm going to fail the GD test tomorrow based on how much weight I've gained even though I haven't changed much of my diet. Hopefully it's just hormones though
I understand how you feel. I was overweight, borderline obese before pregnancy (186 at first appointment). My goal was to stay under 200 the whole time- what a joke! I weighed in at 200.4 this morning (almost 24 weeks). I feel like my eating habits have not changed drastically and I have been walking 30 min every night. I am gaining what my body needs for the baby. Try not to stress although I know it's hard!
I would not be worried unless your doctor is. With this pregnancy and with my DD I gained close to 20 lbs each time by 20 weeks with little to no diet changes...if anything healthier eating. With my DD I gained another 10 lbs in the second half of pregnancy (for a total of 31 lbs) and I seem to be following suit with this baby too. In the last month I've put on a half pound. So it's clearly slowing down again like last time. It freaks me out initially, gaining so fast, but it is what it is. Apparently, it's just how my body works during pregnancy...the exact opposite of what all the books say should be happening with weight gain!
It sounds like you're being healthy with what you're eating for the most part and exercise so I really wouldn't be concerned. Your body doesn't know what the "experts" think it should be doing!
I'm 23 weeks and have gained 9 pounds. I was concerned before reading this post. Looks like everyone is different. This is our first baby so I wasn't sure what to expect. My mom gained 60 pounds with her first, which I know isn't ideal either. My doctor said he'd like me to gain around 30 pounds all together.
At 23 weeks I was up 20lbs, so I'm guessing at 27 weeks I must be at least 25lbs up. I had a medical at 23 weeks and the doctor had just returned from maternity leave. She said she gained 60lbs during her pregnancy and told me "don't worry, you're pregnant, enjoy yourself". Guess I better follow the doctors orders
I'm 27 weeks and have gained about 25 pounds. Keep in mind that it tends to go up by several pounds one week and gain nothing the next week. As long as you're staying semi-active and eating the right kinds of food, I wouldn't worry.
I'm beginning to learn that no matter how little/much you gain, and how little/much you show, everyone will have a different opinion and they won't hesitate to share it with you. I've tried to have a thick skin but sometimes the comments just hurt!
I'm 27 weeks this week, and have gained 10 lbs - I gained it all within the past month, and just started to show in the past three weeks. Some people are shocked when I tell them how far along I am, and say "You're so tiny! I would have guessed 4 months!". Others say "Oh wow, you're carrying high", or "Wow you are really showing early!". I think it has to do with their own experiences with pregnancy or their own insecurities regarding their weight. I look at photo's of other pregnant ladies online, and I definitely fall on the smaller end of the range for how far I am each week.
My mother just commented yesterday that she thinks I am going to have an 8-9 lb baby since I have gained "So much weight", and am getting so big. DH was 6 lbs 3 oz at birth, and I was 7 lbs 3 oz. I'm 5'1" and he is 5'10". Baby has been measuring a bit small at every ultrasound, and even the ultrasound tech commented on how "petite" she was. My mother gained 50 lbs with each of her pregnancies, so I think it is her own insecurities coming out. Still, it hurts!
In the future I'm going to try to keep my yap shut when talking to a pregnant lady - there is no need to comment on how large or small her belly is.
26+1 and only gained about 8 lbs. however, I'm 5'7" and weighed 212 pre pregnancy so my doctors goal for me was no more than 15-25 lbs gain. I also don't want to have a hard time losing after baby as I plan on losing more than just the baby weight after he's born. Everyone is different-I do my glucose test this week and I know there's a chance I can still have GD. Every body is different
At my 20 week appt, I had only gained about 7 lbs total because of nausea. Then from my 20 week to 24 week appt I gained 6 more lbs. ha! Six pounds in a month? I'm glad to see this is somewhat normal, but like OP said, I intend to start being more intentional with my food choices...
I'm 26 weeks and 4 days and I've gained 3lb. I was overweight to start with and suffered with bad nausea up to 17 weeks. Also I put this down to eating little and often rather than big meals and my job is quite active. This is my first pregnancy. It did concern me at first but the midwife reassured me everything was fine. Do not worry we are all different.x
23w6d and +21lbs... No longer eating all the ice cream but I think that's not a terrible thing to get rid of. I was 150 pre pregnancy seeing 180 on the scale was shocking. I think any time you have planned dramatic gains it's still shocking. I'm with PPs eat right move a little don't fret about the scale.
I was 24 lbs up at my 6 month appointment. I gained 13 during the 4th month (babymoon in the Bahamas, so in place of drinking I ate) and gained 8 during the 5th month. I don't feel like I eat poorly, I don't crave ice cream or get up in the middle of the night and pig out, I still track calories on myfitnesspal, and during the week I'm eating around 2200/day. It's really stressful to see that much of a gain, and my doctor asked if I was exercising, which to me is the same as calling me fat, which of course made me more stressed out about it. I hope that I can keep it in check these last few months but all I think about is how much I weigh. My feet and calves are really swollen so I hope that there's at least a couple pounds of water weight. And my enormous boobs don't help. Thanks for reading my sob story.
I found this site on pinterest wish i saved it but you put in you prebaby weight and it calculatea your BMI and then shows a chart of what is a good weight gain for you at each week according to your body and at 25 weeks mine said 139 my pre baby weight is 127. Thats 12 pound by week 25 based on a normal bmi gaining 25-35 lbs the whole pregnancy. There is nothing wrong with 8 lbs. Hopefully the doctor was more saying keep it up and it was a misunderstandin
I now realize i was reading the first page when i commented but still.. Lol
At almost 27 weeks I'm up 19 lbs. but dr said measuring 2 weeks early (tape measure). Of course said perfectly normal but has anyone else experienced this before?
I typically gain between 25/35 pounds with my babies. This time around though at 27 weeks I am already up 20 pounds.... With another 13 weeks to go I am not looking forward to the scale. The 3rd tri is usually when I put on more weight, 1-2#s a week .
My midwife is not concerned though. I'm not sure why the weight gain. Other then my boobs and belly getting bigger earlier I am not sure where the weight is going. I don't eatuch differently than my other 3 pregnancies. I think it might have something to do with this one being much closer in age with my last to thought. My youngest was 9m when we got pregnant this time around.
But one interesting note. Since my last was at a birthing center I weighed myself before I left my house and then when I got home 5 hours later from having my baby and I lost 12#s just by giving birth to an 8#7oz baby
I'm 27 weeks and I've gained a total of 13 pounds so far. I workout and eat right I give up on tracking my weight. My doctor hasn't said anything about weight.
I asked my doctor at my 24 wk appointment because I was up 24 lbs (!!!!). My doc wasn't going to bring it up, but it bugged me. She wasn't overly concerned yet but she did say I need to watch it. Well now I am watching it more (although I really haven't been eating poorly at any point of this pregnancy) and I've still gained another 3 lbs in 2 weeks!!! I can't win. (
Look here's the thing. I was tiny before I got pregnant because I was relatively healthy and I'm a small person. I'm also 21 and 5"2. I'm 27 weeks and have gained 25-28 lbs. this is your time to finally eat what you want and indulge in a little! As long as you aren't ONLY eating bad food. My doctor told me I was gaining "too much" and I said is my baby healthy? Am I healthy? Then fuck off. Honestly this is your time so what if you gain 40 lbs in this pregnancy? You'll loose it if you eat right and breastfeed afterwards. Don't track calories you'll end up starving your baby! Just limit soda and juices to one small one a day or three out of seven days a week. You're fine !
Resurrecting this because I've been getting grief at every appointment since 20w for my weight gain. Told yesterday at my 28w that the 18 lbs I've gained at this point is really where I want to be "toward the end." Where are the placenta, extra blood volume, breast volume, and the baby itself going to come from if I'm not gaining weight? With 12 weeks left, even If I were to gain a pound a week, I don't feel like 30 lbs is too bad for a total gain (esp. since I plan to BF and start a regular fitness regimen after recovery). I mean, I know I was overweight to begin with, but I'm just kind of feeling degraded...

I am also small, 5'1 and 89ish lbs before pregnancy. With my first daughter I gained 45 lbs and my Dr wasn't worried at all!!! I have gained 22 with this one (my 3rd, 27 weeks) and they are still not worried.

Yeah, this sounds like bullsh*t. I don't even know what to tell you, but I'm so sorry your doctor's making you feel like crap!
Im 26 weeks tomorrow and so far have gained 11 lbs i was happy with my weight until i weight myself today and ive gained maybe .3 lbs in the last 3 weeks since my last app. I have another app in a week. Do you think my midwife will be concerned i havent gained any weight in 4 weeks or does the weight come at different rates throughout the pregnacy. I know you should ve gaining 1/2 lb a week right now. Last month i gained 3 lbs this month noothing?
I'm 40 and 5'3. I was 166 pre pregnancy and now at 28 weeks I am 190. so I've gained about 24 lbs. but my arms and thighs look amaze! I walk 3-5 miles a day 4 days a week and weight train my arms and doing squats. I have a 4 year old and gained 55 lbs with her but I didn't work out at all and ate like everything all the time. I've got about 13 weeks to go. And I've already gained 24 lbs. I seem to gain like 8-10 lbs a month! Not 4. Ughhhh. No GD though so that's good and BP also good.
My plan is more water. Less carb. More clean eating and keep walking!!!
I was 149 before getting pregnant with number 1. Breastfed until 3.5 years old. The weight does NOT fly off your body with breastfeeding lol! In fact you feel extra ravenous and extra tired from oxytocin. So you still have to watch what you eat and you need to move A LOT. I didn't watch what I ate and wasn't in a hurry to lose weight. It took me three years to get back to 150. And then I gained back 15 lbs after two pregnancy losses and holiday cookies!
I'm 27 weeks and have gained about 8 lbs. With my first I gained about 12 lbs total and he was perfectly healthy, so I'm not worried. I could have used to lose about 15 lbs pre pregnancy so I def don't need any extra weight and I've been eating everything I want in moderation. With both pregnancies I've been nauseous and sick so that def had something to do with the small weight gain...Hoping for just steady weight gain & a healthy baby
I just turned 28 weeks. I am 5'3" and started at 114 lbs. I now weigh 138 lbs. I've gained 24 lbs total so far. I asked my doctor if she was worried and she said no....but I am!! However, my blood pressure is always good and low and my glucose test came back saying I do not have gestational diabetes. I just know third tri is ahead...that's when the lbs can start packing. I'm going to try to only gain 10 more and I'll be in the range she told me to stay in, 25-35 lbs. That's probably going to be difficult because I feel extra hungry and have cravings!!

I'm 26 weeks and I've gained almost 30 already. ( So don't feel bad.
