Help!!

My daughter is almost 5 months old.. Ever since she was around a month she spots up ALOT! we tried spit up formula but it upset her tummy! She's not over eating she burps well every 2 oz I hold wer in an upright position I don't move her around after she eats and she still spits up. She will spit up maybe 5 min after she finishes a bottle all the way up until it's time for her to eat again.. I have asked my doc and she said as long as she's gaining weight it's not a problem but it's very concerning to me. And she eats 6 oz every 3 hrs normally.

Re: Help!!

  • That happened with my son. He was considered a "happy spitter." He spit up ALL the time regardless of what we did - type of formula, extra burping, holding up, etc. the doctor told us too that if he was gaining weight then he is ok. I believe I was told that babies have immature digestive systems and some spit up more than others. We even tried acid reflux medicine! Most babies will grow out of this when they start to sit up on their own, a small percentage will continue spitting up until they are 12 months old......well my son spit up all the way until then :/.

I know it's alarming, it was for me too. Trust that the doctor is telling you the truth and remember that as long as your baby is happy and healthy.....then doing a ton of laundry or keeping a bib on your baby isn't that bad! Hubby and I kinda got used to the spit up down the backside of our clothes after a while.......

  • Our doctor told us that starting baby food would probably help with the acid reflux. Our LO is a happy spitter, too. We are on reflux medicine. The doctor said this is very common in babies, and she should grow out of it.
  • Our LO was spitting up all the time-so at 8 weeks with the blessing of his pediatrician I gave him probiotics and saw an almost immediate change. Fast forward 1 month later and he had blood/mucous in his stool- so we are eliminating all dairy- the probiotic that was working so well for his spit up had milk in it.... :( so I went to Walgreens and got Gerber soothe - now the spit up is back- I ordered a high quality probiotic online that doesn't have milk in it and I'm hoping it solves the problem- definitely give a good probiotic a try (with pediatrician approval of course)
