Baby carriers?

Re: Baby carriers?

  • Any insert is going to be hot. Look in to Lenny lamb where you can flip the waistband to prop the baby's seat up higher (they are made to be worn with the waistband normal or flipped) which removes the necessity of an insert
  • Loading the player...
  • I was really wanting to get the Ergo 360 but heard mixed reviews (it's hot for mom & baby...especially with the infant insert) plus the Velcro is extremely loud. So after googling and doing major researching I found the Lillebaby carrier, it has an airflow design and has great lumbar support. Check them out!

I decided to go with the lillibaby too! Picked the complete all seasons.

  • @twogirlsandagreen I am looking into the Lenny lamb and I haven't seen anything that says something about the waist band flipping up to make the babies seat higher etc. Do you have one? Or where can I find information about this feature if you don't mind :)

I have three of them and a Tula (don't judge, I LOVE baby wearing). I put the link to their manual below, and the instructions for flipping the waistband are on the very last page. You cannot flip the waistband on other carriers though, so don't buy a Tula hoping to be able to do this.

  • If you are in the States, a great company to order from is 5 Minute Recess
  • I got a free  bjorn from a friend whose baby hated it, but I want to be able to hold the baby on my back too. Stupid to register for the Ergo 360? Obv if nobody buys it for me, I'll look for a used one or just deal with the bjorn...
  • I probably won't use this until the springtime when the baby is about 6 months old. The associate in the baby store said the stokke is the best one on the market because it has a lot of support. However, it's $220. Not sure what to do.
  • So @twogirlsandagreen ( sorry for harassing you lol) you think that a 3 month old baby will be fine and nicely supported in the Lenny lamb? There aren't a lot of youtube reviews on them....it's not too complicated to get adjusted to the wearer etc? I don't have a lot of patience. I pay for convenience lol. Will this fit a baby up to two years old? I'm not wearing her after that age lol. I have a feeling she's going to be petite :) genes and all ...

    Yes to all ^ :)

  • Ok I found the one I want. They sell them in Europe, Australia etc but I was able to find one in Canada that i can order. The reviews are good and you can use it from birth without an insert, but they do have an insert belt thingy that you can use anyways if you want. It looks good and it's ergonomic and you can use it on older babies too. I think it said up until to the age of 4, but I will not be using it when my girl can walk anyways. Its called the manduca baby carrier. I found it here : https://www.gorgeousbaby.ca/manduca-carrier/139-black.html . Here is a video on the carrier. What's do you ladies think? It looks simple enough for me and that's what I want....safety and simplicity. :)https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QrgP87fRnE8

I'm also planning to get the Lillababy complete all season, seem to have lots of great reviews
  • There are so many out there, I didn't even look at that one LOL. Does if work for smaller babies? I have a feeling this princess will be petite.

  • Yes, apparently you can use it from newborn on, no extra parts required
  • The k'tan isn't really a wrap - it's already made so you can just put it on and tie it. Some of the wraps out there like moby, boba wraps are ridiculously long and drag on the floor as you try to get all the fabric wrapped around you and your baby.

It's really all preference and you won't know what you like/what will work for you until you actually try it.

  • How much are you mommas planning on using carriers with your LO being born in cold winter months? I feel like I wouldn't use it too often and should just get one that fits a bigger child!?

What about the less expensive ergonomic carriers that Infintino makes? I can't justify spending so much on one or putting such an expensive one on our registry. Just wondering if anyone had experience with these. I read some pretty positive reviews about the Flip and Flip Advance ones most specifically.

It isn't cold in the country I live in that I will be returning to once I give birth. I also travel a lot overseas which means I'll be spending a lot of time in the airport and immigration lines. It's worth it to me to bot have to lug around a stroller. Also a lot of these carriers grow with baby. The two I've narrowed it down to fits toddlers.

  • The Infantino Sash Mei Tai is my favorite. It fits every size, changes position as the baby gets older, puts the baby in the right position, washes easily, and is easy to use. It's also incredibly affordable. I'm kind of annoyed how much we spent before I got it.

My LO is over two and I just wore it on my side (big belly and already wearing a backpack) to carry her about 1/2 mile from the beach to our camping spot.

Here's the target link but you can but it all over. https://m.target.com/p/infantino-sash-mei-tai-3-position-baby-carrier/-/A-14334281
  • @mommabear2410 - I live in a cold climate when we generally get our first snow in October. Really hoping for an Indian summer so that I have a chance to be outside with baby but even if we don't get that I plan on using a K'Tan indoors for the newborn stage. Once baby is able and old enough I will move to a Tula (so cute!). All that being said, I am a FTM and just going off of what my friends do as well as the fact that I believe in the 4th trimester.

I like that one too but not sure how my hubby would feel using it. It looks a little too girly and dressed up for him!

I feel like I may be wearing baby around the house while I ge stuff done, grocery store, who knows. it's so hard to say since I've never done this before. Also, as przemosbabe said it should last a couple of years...
  • I tula all of the time. It's nice for grocery shopping, church, and just about any where. It's nice to keep your baby close and not have strangers try to touch your baby. However some people are weird and have asked if my baby was a doll or a dog.

A friend added me to a baby-wearing FB group in our area. They have a monthly meet up where everyone brings their carriers and allows others to try them on. Awesome idea! They also have a lending library you can use if you become a member ($30 annually). I believe it's called International Baby Wearing, and different cities have their own chapter. I'm looking forward to August's meeting so I can narrow down what I think will work for us. Maybe there's one in your area, too!

My MiL posted that to my Facebook the other day. It's cute!

We went to then Albany store this weekend and we actually got to try on the different carriers. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the Moby was to put on. The only issue I had was tying it too tight and the baby's head (fake baby lol) was lodged right under my chin. I liked the ease of the K'tan as well and the baby fit way easier. My husband tried on the ergo 360 and while initially it was a little difficult to get all the buckles in the proper spot he said it was really comfortable! I plan on wearing baby in and outside the house.

I have the original Ergo and I believe the 360 just came out a year or so ago. If I was looking for a new one, I'd go for the 360, because you can have the baby face you or face out, plus you can back carry just like the original Ergo. I'd definitely register for the Ergo 360, and if no one buys if for you, consider at least the original Ergo used.

The Bjorn has been criticized for not properly supporting baby's hips. At least that's what they were saying 2 years ago. I don't know if they've changed the design at all.

  • @mommabear2410, since I live in a climate that has relatively mild winters, I think I'll use mine a lot. This is also because I have a two-year old and I think I'll need to wear my baby.

The insert that goes with my Ergo tends to get hot in warmer weather, and babywearing in general is going to generate body heat. So it all depends on how much you'll be outside and how cold it gets where you live.

Some babies want to be held constantly and some don't mind if you put them down to say, make yourself a sandwich. If you have a baby who wants to be worn constantly, it may be worth getting either an infant insert or a wrap or sling.

  • I have a ring sling which you can use newborn- toddler. And an ergo for when big enough ( I hate the newborn insert). I'd love a Tula but they are expensive
  • I jus ordered the manduca baby carrier I posted earlier in this thread. No turning back now!
