Working mamas, how long do you plan to take for mat leave?

Re: Working mamas, how long do you plan to take for mat leave?

  • My due date is 1 OCT and by then I'll have 6 weeks of combined sick and personal time that I'll take. I'll also accrue 10 hours a leave a pay period during that time so I plan on taking that too. However, my agency is big on virtual workforce and doing anything to mitigate traffic in the DC area. So I'm going to discuss with my boss if they allowed me to work from home exclusively I would take only 2 weeks of leave and physically return to the office after the holidays. I hope this all works out for me! I really hate the federal government doesn't have a maternity leave policy in place.

12 weeks - I'm thinking of starting halfway through September so  actually in total I'll have 14 weeks as my maternity finishes halfway through the Christmas holidays.  Woohoo!

  • This time I'll be taking 8 weeks.  For my others, I took 7 months, 14 weeks and 13 weeks.
  • I just won the lottery, so I won't have to work at all.....SIKE! I wish! I'll be taking 12 weeks off based on FMLA and getting only 8 weeks paid from my STD. Last work day is October 1st. Won't return till first of Jan. 2016.
  • I'm taking 17 weeks off. 12 weeks paid maternity leave, one week of vacation before baby gets here, then 4 weeks vacation at the end of my maternity. It works out great that my leave goes into next year bc I'm able to use 2015 & 2016 vacation time.

I'm taking 12 weeks (60% pay) + another 2 weeks of vacation. My boss seemed very open to me working from home a couple of days each week when I go back, when I first told him I was pregnant so I'm hoping that sticks.

  • Full 12 weeks with partial pay, which is still not enough lol
  • I'm leaving August 21, a full eight weeks before I'm due. Planning to go back at the end of January but I honestly am not sure if I'll be going back. :)

@shanti20 I agree, every branch should have it, but maybe now that the Navy and Marine Corps switched it the other may follow suit.

I'm a GS employee with the Army and I have zero maternity leave and because I'm a government employee I can't get the Short term disability. They definitely need some new policies!
