January 2016 Moms

When will your nursery be ready?

We are expecting twins and can find out the genders mid-September.  My plan is to wait until then to start decorating/planning for the nursery.  I am just nervous that is too late and won't give me enough time (especially if they come early).

When will all of you start painting/decorating/buying? Have you already? FTM here so I am pretty clueless ;-)

We have to finish a basement renovation first so we can move the office downstairs and even have a place to put the nursery.  I figure at the rate we're going, the nursery will be done well after the baby gets here. :)  I'm hoping I'm wrong about that though!
I don't plan to start planning/buying anything until after we find out the sex either

  • This is my third. I will probably do the nursery after baby is here! The baby will be in our room the first few months anyway, I don't want to bother with getting the crib down from the attic and having it take up space until baby is ready to use it. I plan to do a rock n play in our room instead.
  • DS didn't even sleep in his nursery until he was 3 months old, and at that point I already wanted to change everything (damn you, Pinterest). We aren't finding out the sex, so we are going very gender neutral, but I probably won't get started on it until fall and even then I don't plan to finish it until after baby is born. Sept gives you plenty of time.
  • My fiancé and I are in the process of turning his bachelor pad into a home. His brother and him have lived in their house for the past 5 years or so. My fiancé is buying the house from his landlord and his brother has been given 2 months to find a new place to go. (It may seem unfair to his brother- BUT his brother has been without a job for a great deal of time and living rent free while my fiancé supported him until he finally provided him with a job working for his own company) Anyways, we won't have access to the room that will be the nursery until his brother moves out (It's a 2 bedroom house) in September. We probably won't start decorating until November.
  • I haven't even thought about the nursery yet, probably because we don't use our son's room for anything but a closet and playroom. Lol
  • No that's not too late I'll actually start buying for baby after I find out the sex as well I already have a few big purchases in mind like my crib and dressers because I already know I want them to be a cherry wood because that can go both ways for boy or girl other than that I have nothing else in mind I haven't even purchased one baby item and I'm 17 week & 3 days. Hopefully I'll be done around November but if not I'm not going to stress since baby will be in our room for a few months that's plenty of time to get situated.

I have the dresser, crib and glider all on order. They all come this week. I've ordered prints and I have some other stuff that needs to get hung and the layout figured out. It'll be functional by September but probably not done until December.

I have been slowly putting mine together as I find good deals on items. I'm making a lot of the choices before I know gender because I want a room that isn't influenced by gender (rather than gender neutral). For example, we painted the wall light blue because we are doing an ocean theme. If I find something adorable that's pink, I will buy that too. Once I know gender, it will be harder to do that.
  • We are starting our nursery once we find out gender too. I'm hoping to work on it Sept-Oct and then do finishing touches so it's for sure done before thanksgiving. I just know the Holidays will get so busy...

My sister is a total planner, but baby came early so while my sis was in the hospital my dad was at her house putting together the crib for new baby...

Even if there's no place ready for baby, things will work out, don't stress.
  • We have the crib already, but that's it so far. I have a pinterest board with all the other stuff picked out already too, but will probably wait a month or two before ordering anything else. I would say that I want everything done by September as well, since I'm due Jan 1. The holiday season always stresses me out to the max, so I want tot be able to try and relax as much during that time as I can.

Our baby is due jan. 18 and I would like to have most things done by Thanksgiving but I guess it all depends on when my shower is, because I plan to register for nursery bedding. So if the shower is after Thanksgiving I won't hit my target date.
  • I'm due Jan 21st but would like to be done by Nov so I can just focus on the holidays & I will be much bigger then! We already have the crib in & going to buy the dresser in the next couple of weeks, then that gives me plenty of time for decorating. Going with a vintage car theme.
  • I have some of the bigger stuff purchased (crib, dresser, bassinet) but nothing in terms of decor. We're putting in new floors this week and finding out gender in two more weeks, so after that we'll probably get a lot more done. And I'm imagining some of the stuff I'll get at a shower and/or from family, so realistically it probably won't be 100% done until the holidays
  • I'd like it done by Thanksgiving so I can relax and enjoy the holidays.

Haven't done a thing yet! We're moving in a couple of weeks, so we need to wait until then to even make measurements and plan furniture. I'm planning to have the baby in our room at least at first, so by nursery I just mean corner of our bedroom. FTM and hoping it's not crazy to just get the minimum (minicrib, dresser/changing table, comfy nursing chair, basic clothes and bedding) at first and wait on the rest until we meet baby and see what he/she is like.
  • I would like the crib and a couple other things built before the baby comes. But other than that the baby will sleep in a bassinet for at least three months in our room. I'm a FTM, too :) I'll probably dictate to SO what I need done in the nursery besides the furniture. I would like to work on the art I plan on putting in there - I'm not rushing it. I'm not having home&garden magazine over to take pictures or anything. I'm surprised at how NOT stressed I am. Who knows what will happen if nesting kicks in, though....

Don't stress momma. You have time.
  • My brother currently lives in our second bedroom, so we can't start until he moves out in November. We'll be having the shower around mid November, so it'll be perfect timing.

The crib and dresser are sitting in the basement, where they have been since long before we found out I was pregnant.  We got them at a Pottery Barn Kids store closing for like 75% off and couldn't pass up the opportunity.  As for a nursery, I've got nothing. . . . we took about buying, and getting a bigger space so we are kinda waiting it out at the moment to see if it's worth it to do something in the house we currently rent, or to hold off until we buy a house.
  • We've decided to start working on the nursery in September. We have a bed in there, so we have to figure out where we want to move that. The dressers are staying so we'll need to set up the crib, get a rug, and do a little decorating. We aren't painting the room because it's already a neutral cream color (we're team green, so that works for us). The hardest part will be clearing out a lot of my stuff from the closest and consolidating with DH in the master closet. Probably should start that before I get to big, I guess! Lol!
  • um....never because we're not doing one lol. Maybe one day but I find we don't use their rooms until they're over a year anyway. We're crazy like that ;)

  • Eh, I'm not too worried about it. I have the crib picked out, but as for the other furniture (dresser/changing table), I want to find vintage pieces and refinish them (which means DH will be refinishing them). My SIL and her H are staying with us for a couple of months while their new home is being built, so our nursery is currently our office, but once they move, we'll switch their room back into the office and get started on the baby's room. I know it will come together, so I just plan on doing a little here and there once they move out. I'm not in any hurry.

We had to get all of our furniture situated to turn our guest room into an office/guest room, so we already started. While I am still moving around and have a lot of energy, I figured we should take advantage of it. Now we have all the furniture situated and we should not have to move much. We also got an amazing deal on craigslist on a 4 in 1 convertible crib, so we went ahead and bought it. The way we are planning the nursery, is based on deals we find. So if we find a really good deal on a glider we are going to get it, for example. All the little accents and such we will wait until we know the sex to plan, but I know I am going to be doing a gender neutral nursery so that we can reuse as much as possible for our future second. I have my first baby shower in October, and I am hoping after that I will be able to buy whatever else we may need.
  • Baby will be with us for the first 2 months. Right now my cousin is leaving with us so she could finish college and get a job. Once she moves out we will begin painting the room. I already have everything in the basement so it's just a matter of cleaning it again and setting up, which takes 1 day. Don't know if I'll find out the gender yet, but it will just be a few decor pieces and new sheets I need to get. So I'm really in no hurry, with my first i wanted everything done in October, he was due late December born in January.

  • We just had our floors redone, which was the perfect excuse to move all the furniture out of what will become the nursery. Right now it's sitting empty. I plan to paint around the end of August, and then start assembling baby furniture. I hope to be done by early November.

Aug17 December Siggy Challenge: Funny Pics of Kids Afraid of Santa

  • With my first baby I intended to have the nursery done before he arrived. But life was busy and DS came a few weeks early. The crib was set up and I spent the first few months of his life adding some decorations, art, filling drawers, etc. It worked out just fine. I mostly put baby in a carrier and went about my day. Was a great way to bond and get things done.

This baby will be sharing a room with DS eventually. So there's not much to do. I need to clean out some closet space and move the bed. I guess that's it.
  • Wow, all these responses make me feel like a weirdo. For our first, I was ready to start trying for a baby way before my younger DH was, so to keep me occupied and not pestering him, I set up a nursery. Paint, furniture, details, everything. For the furniture he actually surprised me by finding a good deal on craigslist for a set and the first I knew about it was when we picked them up. Due to this occupation, we started setting up the nursery a year before we even started trying to get pregnant. We finished filling it and minor detailing when I was about 6 months along with DS.

For this one, we did a little furniture rearranging when we moved DS to a toddler bed, also before we got pregnant. Now all I need to do is fix up the closet (two per bedroom which is nice), and fill with newborn stuff (diapers, etc). I saved all of DS's clothes, so I won't need to go shopping until this new baby is 2, although honestly that wasn't forethought, I just couldn't stand to get rid of any of it.

I think that is maybe why this pregnancy is going so slowly, I don't have a project!

  • Paint and wallaper will hopefully be done by end of August. We are going with a grey/white color scheme for the walls. We will wait to finish decorating when we find out what we are having.  Hoping to have it all done by October, on Columbus Weekend.  Then once the shower takes place, we don't have to do a whole lot, because we will have already created space for things we might receive.
  • As a PP said, we plan on having baby in our room for the first few months anyway (because who wants to have to get up and go to another room...and in our case even downstairs...several times a night for feedings/changings?), so we're not setting up a formal nursery at all until we decide it's time to move her out. My mom and I have a crib and dresser we like picked out (all that will fit in our bedroom with all of our stuff), and bedding on our registry, and will order the crib/dresser maybe around October to come in around November. I'm assuming the bedding etc. will be purchased off the registry for the shower in December, so our nursery corner of our bedroom should be ready about a month before she's due (end of Jan), just in case she's a little early.

I've painted several rooms in our home and have found it really only takes a day to paint a room and maybe another day to arrange furniture, so once everything is purchased it really won't take long to set anything up. So once we DO move her into her own room, I don't feel we need more than at most a week's notice to get everything ready for her.

Baby will be in our room until it's about 18 months, because we live in a 2 bedroom apartment until DH graduates and already have DS in the second bedroom.

We're going to set up the PNP and set up a small area just for his/her stuff until we move.

  • We already know the gender, and have lots of things picked out, but we have not started ordering anything yet. Because we are teachers, we will probably get things done pretty early so that the school year isn't quite in full swing yet. Also, my sweet husband feels the urgent need to get everything done right now, even though we have five and a half months until baby arrives.
  • Well our nursery is all done but that's only bc it's currently DDs room. We were team green before and are team green now so the nursery is pretty neutral and will be easy to adapt to new LO. The real task is going to be setting up DDs new big girl room. We will need to reno that room (rip up carpet, refinish floors, install high hat lighting, new doors, paint walls) before we buy her furniture and move her into the room. She is only 1 and will be 18m when LO gets here. We are going to buy her a convertible crib, dresser, nightstand, area rug, and curtains.

I'm hoping to have the reno done before thanksgiving and have her moved into her new room before Christmas.

The last thing I want is for new LO to get here and have to spend the first several months in our room and then move DD after. With DD we moved her into her crib after only one month and she has always slept great. Hoping for the same timeline transition with LO.

Oddly enough, we have never had a nursery set up before baby was here! My first was a surprise so we didn't have a single thing until after he was born. My second was to take over his room in our new house but he would not move upstairs and I didn't want the baby up there alone-so we waited so we didn't add more change to his life haha. For our third, no one wanted to help me get anything ready and insisted it would "come together" so I was upset and let it slide! they were all next to me in a bassinet for the first 2 months so it wasn't a huge deal but I really was so bummed I never got to set up my "dream nursery". For our 4th, my mother is now living with us (temporarily? ha.) I'm not sure if I'll have all 3 of our older boys bunk together, have my youngest and the baby share a room or if I'll just forego a nursery yet again. In the grand scheme, I much more enjoy designing our toddler and "big boy" rooms so maybe saving the money to do that wouldn't be such a bad thing. I guess we'll see!
  • We didn't decorate our daughters until she was a year old and we still haven't gotten her better furniture. I prefer waiting it gave us an idea of what she likes instead of just what we liked. Turns out she loves purple, so a purple bed set it is. The new baby will probably be the same way.
  • I will start buying and setting up in September we find out the gender in late August. Waiting on some good black Friday deals also.

It won't be till after baby is born. DD is 7 months now and she just started sleeping in her nursery last month. We have all the big pieces we need so I won't set it up and decorate till after this LO has arrived

This. I want to know if baby is a boy or girl first. August 25 can't come soon enough.
